Chapter 1173: Epilogue 5
Learning What I Need

When I was told by my family to go to Colorado, I did not know how it would all end up. I did not for even one second think that I would end up finding the love of my life. Or that I would then subsequently lie to that woman because of my family.
And I never thought that I would end up turning my back on the only family that I had ever had, just for the chance to redeem myself for that woman and the chance to be with her forever.
It all started on that first day of classes at the university. It was where we were enrolled so that we could monitor the son and daughter of the werewolf King and Queen. They were our targets, them and all their friends that would be there with us. However, nothing truly went according to plan while we were there, now did it?
The moment that I walked up to that group, to be introduced to Reagan and Rika, the Prince and Princess, I was more focused on someone else. I had walked with Clovio to the group near the fountain and my eyes were already glued to the girl with the black hair and the deep, burgundy colored eyes. They were red, but not a bloody red, and they were so enchanting.
"Rika! I found you!" Clovio spoke to the group easily because he had already met them. "Hi, Clovio!" The girl that I couldn’t even look at responded.
"I wanted to introduce you to my friends. They were not in our group, but they are from the same orphanage. They were on the tour the day after ours." The conversation continued without me even paying attention to it.
"Oh, more friends from Germany." The voice, I think it was Rika, sounded excited as she spoke.
It was at that moment that I heard the girl that I was staring at gasp. It was like something about my presence had affected her just as it had affected me. I saw her look at me with wide and fascinated eyes. Those reddish eyes seemed to be glowing and growing brighter as she stared at me. I didn’t know if it was our connection or the sun that was causing it, and I didn’t care.
"You know Gunnar and Aloisius, as well as Armina and Lovisa. These here are sisters Hede and Hedi, and this here is Warrick. Everyone, these are some new friends of ours. Rika, can you introduce everyone for me?" Clovio couldn’t tell what was happening with me, so he didn’t say or do anything as he spoke. I knew that if he could see me though, he would be wondering what was up with my face.
I knew that it was intense and filled with need and hunger. Those two feelings were so strong that they nearly overwhelmed me.
"Sure. It’s nice to meet you guys. These, here, are my friends. This is Ilana, Alexa and Lyssa." The girl, Rika, indicated that the one that I was staring at was named Lyssa. That would make her Alyssa Asher-Conrad, one of the targets on the list that we had been given. She was to be monitored as well.
I instantly wanted to abandon my mission and just run away with this girl, but I knew that wasn’t an option. "Lyssa, is everything OK?" Rika asked her as if she were worried about her. What was there to be worried about? We were just staring intently and passionately at each other, nothing out of the ordinary.
"I..I’m fine. Everything is f..f..fine." Lyssa stuttered in her heightened state and it made me grin. I knew that it was me that had caused that reaction in her, and I also knew it wasn’t a bad thing to have happened either. She liked me, and I was already head over heels for her.
From there we started to discuss what classes that we had, and as it turned out, Clovio and I had all the same classes as the girls. I would be with Lyssa for every class, and that made it even better for me. I would spend my time with her as much as I possibly could.
Things started to move quickly with the girls. We talked about going out on a double date, so that Lyssa wasn’t uncomfortable and so that Clovio could keep an eye on the other girl, Rika. I was learning that Rika and her brother Reagan, and all of these other nonhumans, were nothing at all like we had been taught that they were. They were just like us.
They were normal people, and all that they wanted was to be able to live in peace.
I was fully and wholeheartedly in love with Lyssa, and I could tell that she was feeling the same as me. I talked to Clovio about this several times, in private of course, and told him that I wanted to be with her, not follow the orders of the family. He was feeling the same. He was not actually in love with Rika, but he respected her and wanted to make sure that she was not hurt in all of this.
None of them deserved to be hurt.
After a while, we had come face to face with another of the groups that had been sent here to the States. They weren’t supposed to interfere with us, and the same went for us. However, they confronted us when we were out with Rika and Lyssa. I knew that we wouldn’t be able to stop them if they decided to use the runes that they had learned from the grandmothers on the girls, we were powerless.
A man that I had never seen before had arrived to save the day. He had been angry with Rika and Lyssa for having left the campus, but he had managed to scare off the others, so that was good for us. We wouldn’t have to watch them take the girls and hurt them now.
Things moved fast after that. We went with Rika and Lyssa to the castle that the King and Queen lived in so that we could tell them the truth and explain all that had been happening. The girls were heartbroken, and I will never forget the look of betrayal that was on Lyssa’s face. She was devastated, and all I wanted to do was make it better.
I wanted to tell her that I truly loved her and I had wanted to betray my family from the moment that I had met her. She was more important to me than they were.
Soon, there was a battle that ensued. I wasn’t sure if the nonhumans would win, but they did. They destroyed the family that was in charge and, oddly enough, some ancient beings that were manipulating and controlling the family. I had no idea that there was that much going on in the family, not that I cared at all. I just wanted Lyssa back.
I was told that, even though we turned our back on the family, we still needed to face our punishment. I agreed without hesitation. I would prove myself and come back to see my love. I would win her back so that she didn’t hate me anymore.
I was sent to live in England for a while, at the pack of a man named Nigel. He was supposed to educate me in the ways of the werewolves, and how to be a proper man for the woman that I loved and wanted to spend my life with. That wasn’t what was happening though.
From the very first day, I was treated like a prisoner in Nigel’s home. I was their servant that was forced to do everything for them, and they often beat me just for my existence. They didn’t like that I was linked to the Jaegan family that had committed the murders. While I was there, I often feared for my life.
One day, Queen Trinity and King Reece came to Alpha Nigel’s house. I had already had my spirit broken by that point, and I was standing behind Nigel’s chair like I was a subservient dog. There was little else that I was allowed to do most of the time. I was relieved though, because while they were there, collecting traitors from that pack, they took me away from there and sent me to another pack.
This one was in the States, and a pack that was much nicer.
I still didn’t go home to Colorado, but I was back in the same country as the woman that I loved and I was able to feel her connection. And the new pack was a much better fit. And a lot nicer as well.
I was finally learning what I needed to. This Alpha, a man named Artem that had several children of his own, kept me with him for most of each day, but he was teaching me what it meant to be a werewolf and how to live with nonhumans. I trained my body physically, and I learned a lot in the meantime.
They had a really nice setup in their library where they used to teach their kids when they were younger, and it was there that they taught me nonhuman history and all the lore that went into the world that they lived in. It was finally something that I was able to appreciate and enjoy, even though I still felt the desire to be with Lyssa more than anything in the world.
I knew that my Lyssa was a vampire and not a werewolf, but she was raised in a mixed species household, and she still lived a lot of her life like she was a wolf. She didn’t have a wolf form, but she was in all technicality, a half vampire and half werewolf. I knew that this was why Queen Trinity and King Reece had wanted me to learn the ways of wolves.
Now that I was almost done with my training, and it was summer time now, I couldn’t wait until I got to go home. The first thing that I was going to do was find Lyssa. I would apologize to her, and then I would tell her that I would never, in all my life or eternity, break her heart again. I would never lie to her. I would never hide anything from her.
She was all that mattered to me, and I would spend the rest of my days, however few or many they may be, proving that to her.
I just hoped that she would accept my words as the truth, that she would give me another chance. I knew that I would never be able to live without her. She was it for me. I would never love another woman like I loved her.
