When I left the house, I had not gone to work as Heather had thought I was. Instead, I went to the market in the city and started to stock up on some things that I needed for the night. I had to make this special for her, and I only had the day to take care of everything that I had planned, and I knew that this was going to be cutting it close. Still, I would make sure that today was perfect.

I knew that I had been slightly neglecting my mate recently. Not on purpose, it had happened, nonetheless.

I was going to be making a lot of different things, and that was going to take a lot of time in the kitchen, however, I wanted to make it special for Heather by making all of her favorite dishes. I grabbed salmon, steak, chicken, pork, bacon, and several different vegetables for the side dishes. She would have all of the major proteins tonight.

Although, I wasn’t going to be making too much of each item. I didn’t want to waste the food.

While I was at the store, I bought more flowers, with lots of roses, some candles, special cutlery and plates just for the night, a crystal vase, some mild and quite pleasant incense, and some bath crystals so that she could soak when she wanted to. She was going to be pampered as much as possible this weekend.

Oh, and thinking of that, I needed to grab food for breakfast tomorrow, as well as the lunch that I planned to make for her while we lounged around the house.

Taking all the things that I had just bought home with me, I got immediately to work. I was also glad to see that Heather had actually gone to her appointment. I needed the house to myself to set this up for her.

I started by prepping all the ingredients for the meal that I was going to make for her. There was a lot of chopping, smashing, rolling, and all of that to be done. I started the steaks marinating them for the bacon wrapped steak pinwheels and the mushroom pepper steak over rice. I got the breadcrumbs ready for the herb crusted chicken over linguine with broccoli rabe and peppers.

I was also making seared scallops with citrus herb sauce, cider glazed pork tenderloin, cheese stuffed shells with tomato and basil, a zucchini and gouda skillet frittata, eggplant parmesan, orange pomegranate salmon, homemade manicotti, loaded chicken carbonara cups, spicy turkey lettuce wraps, and Mediterranean spinach and beans.

Yes it was all too much when you added it all together, but I wanted to spoil Heather, she deserved it.

I was good at food, but not baking. So, for that matter, I was having dessert catered for the evening. The staff at Kaleidoscope was preparing cakes, tartes, puddings, pies, and more. All of that was due to arrive here at about four thirty this afternoon. Oh, and among all of that, they were bringing some chocolate covered strawberries and some very nice wine.

I guess it paid to be so high status in our community that people were willing to help me out like this.

Now that the food was prepped and some of it started, and I would be going back to the kitchen repeatedly to start on more of it, I was busy cleaning the house. I wanted to clean it from top to bottom, not that it was filthy. It was just Heather and I here after all, so there wasn’t that much that needed to be cleaned up.

The kitchen was the last on my list, since I was actively cooking as well, but I started in our room, changing the sheets, making the bed, wiping down every surface, sweeping and mopping the hardwood floors, vacuuming the plush rug. I even opened all the windows in the room, and the rest of the house.

This was to air it out while cleaning, but also so that I didn’t become ravenous while all that delicious food was cooking downstairs.

I repeated the cleaning process in all the other rooms, the three bathrooms, the four bedrooms for the kids when they were growing up, the den, the living room, the office, the entryway, all of it until I got to the kitchen. Now it was time to get serious with some of the cooking, but also the cleaning.

There were some dishes piling up from the meal that I was making, and it needed to be taken care of. And while I was at it, I straightened up the pantry, cleaned out the fridge, and stocked up the coffee bar that Heather kept.

When the meal was almost done, I ran upstairs to start a shower and clean myself up. I made sure to clean the bathroom while I was at it, again. I didn’t want to leave a mess behind and ruin the whole thing. Showered, dried, shaved, and dressed, I returned to the kitchen and started to fry up the last of the meal.

Thankfully, a lot of these meals had been baked, so there was little that I needed to do while standing at the stove. Now though, it was getting down to the wire.

After the food was off the stove, I started to prep the last of the surprise, and collected the delivery from Kaleidoscope as well. I started at the front door and made a trail of rose petals that went all the way to the dining room. I circled the table with rose petals and scattered some on the pure white lace table cloth.

From there, I made a path out of the room, up the stairs, and down the hall to the bedroom. Opening the door, I put some of the petals around the bed then some scattered on the bedspread. I put candles around the room, in safe places so that nothing bad happened later in the evening, and lit them. They were extra long candles, so I knew that they would last all night if I needed them to.

Returning to the dining room, I put the candles on the table and lit them as well. I had remembered to shut the windows after cleaning earlier as well, otherwise the wind would have blown out the flames as it breezed inside. I wanted to make things a little more special and romantic for my Heather, so I lined the path from the door to the dining room with candles as well.

These I would blow out after she got home, but they were good for now.

The wine was on the table, the food was prepared on the serving cart ready to be pushed in and surprise my wife. I lit the incense last, letting its scent spread through the room as I turned off the lights. We were going entirely off candlelight, even in the kitchen. As one last after thought, before Heather got home, I turned on some soft, romantic music in the background.

Not loud enough to interfere, but enough to help set a mood.

At that moment, right in time, I heard my wife walking toward the door. She was home, and it was time to show her what I had been planning for her.

I was feeling very relaxed as I pulled into the driveway, relaxed and hungry. Part of me just wanted to sit on the couch until Vincent got home, but the other part of me wanted to cook him a lavish meal for when he was back from work. I felt like he definitely deserved it after what he had done for me.

I decided to leave the clothes in the car for the time being. I would carry them in later, after I had eaten. Living in the compound, where we stayed about half of the time, we never had to worry about thieves. Everyone here was a wolf from the pack and therefore, would answer to Vincent’s wrath if they stole from us.

Everything looked ordinary as I walked toward the door of the house, however when I opened the door I noticed that something was off. For one thing, there were candles and rose petals making a path down the hall. And for another, I could smell pleasant incense and very delicious food.

"Vincent?" I called out to him. "You’re home?" I dropped my keys and purse on the table in the hall as I shut and locked the door behind me. "How come you’re home so early?" I called out once more, but he didn’t answer me.

I followed the rose petals down the hall and into the dining room. With how hungry I was, this was the room that I wanted to be in the most.

"Vincent?" I called again as I entered the room, and that was when I saw him.

My mate, my husband, my Vincent was leaning against the table in what could only be called a sexy, erotic, and sultry pose. He had a rose in his right hand, held up to his nose as he sniffed it with half lidded eyes.

"Mmm, so beautiful." He was looking right at me, desire and need pouring off of him as he spoke. For some reason, I didn’t think that he was talking about the rose.

"Vincent?" There was a smile that crept over my face as I looked at him. He was dressed in a dark green silk shirt that was open half way down, showing his smooth, muscled chest. The black slacks that he was wearing made the color of the shirt pop even more. He wasn’t wearing shoes, we usually don’t when inside the house, actually his feet were bare, not even socks on.

I don’t know why, but this just made the whole scene even more sexy for me. He was so handsome with his blond hair perfectly done in a mixture of messy and professionalism.

"I have been waiting for you, sweetheart." He called out, his voice a little deeper than usual. "I wanted to surprise you when you got home."

"Well, you succeeded, I am definitely surprised." I grinned at him. "I didn’t expect this, Vincent. I thought that you needed to work today."

"I wanted to do something special, so I made you think that I had to work so that I could prepare everything. I am sorry that I lied to you."

"You didn’t." I laughed and stepped closer to him. "You never actually said that you were going to work. That was my wording. And besides, I like this surprise."

"You haven’t seen it all yet." He was turning to put the rose back into the vase as he spoke. "I prepared all of this," he indicated the petals on the floor and the table, "and I cleaned the entire house from top to bottom. Oh, and I cooked all of your favorite foods." He was still looking so sensual when he talked that it made me want to kiss him right then and there.

I thought that there was nothing stopping me, so I did just that.

I closed the last of the space between Vincent and I, raising myself up on my tiptoes and wrapping my arms around his neck. There was no reason to say anything at the moment, he knew what I wanted and he happily reciprocated. He wrapped his hands around my waist to steady me and leaned down so that we met in the middle for a soft and sensual kiss.

His tongue slipped into my mouth, gliding familiarly over my own tongue as it tangled in that intimate dance of lovers. This was the best feeling in the world, the place that I most wanted to be at all times. There was nothing better than being in the arms of the man that I love.

I loved Vincent more and more each day, and I would continue to love him more and more with each passing year that we spent together.
