Chapter 49: Quest closed (2)
I received it quite a lot. However, I couldn’t pay much attention to it because I was so excited about a series of messages about the increase in my level. At first glance, the message said I leveled up more than 20 times for clearing just one quest. Of course, the 79th Defense Unit I belonged to was the winning team, and I placed first within the unit.
“Wow, I’ve got 200 coins.”
“Me, too.”
“The 3 million gold rings also came out!”
“I’ve obtained as many as three million golden rings!”
“I’ve leveled up by 4.”
“Me, three levels.”
Soon, they began to talk about their own bonuses in an amicable atmosphere. Compared to them, I realized how much more I was rewarded because I got almost three or four times as much. Besides, I also received items.
But then another message rang as if I had yet to get more rewards.
[You have exceeded the maximum contribution level that an individual can make.
-An additional bonus has been given to user No. 30 (Private ID).
-200 remaining stat points.]
“!”
The user’s contributions were disclosed to all, but their rewards were private.
So, they talked about how much rewards they received. I tried hard to hide my joy because the 200 remaining stat points were far from ordinary. And this was not the end of the story. All the rewards they got so far were for their contribution to clearing the quest.
But they had another bonus, which was the items that the Scorpion King dropped.
So, all of them moved towards the Scorpion King, then stopped exactly a few steps away.
“User No. 30, you can go ahead first and pick up the item. Then, the rest of us will divide the remaining items. What do you think, everybody?”
“Sure, no problem.”
“Me too.”
“I recommend for user No. 30 to pick up the accessory!” Sokyoung Chung suggested.
Nobody balked at his suggestion. Even one of them actively recommended the items that I should pick up. He was none other than Taichi, an ice-type wizard like me.
I also smiled gently at him, and he smiled back at me. I didn’t wave my hands at their suggestion, nor did I decline because I didn’t have to. Moreover, I know that concessions are not a virtue in the gaming world. Obviously their positive response was the fair price for my hard efforts in this quest game.
I ignored the golden rings first. I also ignored the 200 coins. Of course, my dad and my sister asked me to pay attention to coins, but I got a whopping 12,000 coins by participating in a single quest before. At that time I didn’t know if 12,000 coins were a lot or a little. But I now know that it was a huge amount. I was the fifth to obtain that many coins this time. There were four more who got 12,000 coins. So, I didn’t have to be greedy for 200 right now because I’m going to clear all the existing quests.
Anyway, with everyone watching me, I picked up one item without hesitation. It was the Scorpion King’s earrings, which Taichi also recommended. I knew that the accessory was very precious after participating in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd closed betas. It was so precious that even the auction house didn’t list it. In that respect, I monopolized the most precious item in this quest. But nobody called me out — they just took it for granted.
“Then let me buy the armor and helmet of this Scorpion King at the current price. Of course, if any of you have enough golden rings, you can buy them too,” said Sokyoung.
Only I knew about his identity here. He was the grandson of the chairman of Kusan Group, one of the top five business groups in South Korea. So, he quickly went ahead with distributing the items among themselves, except for me. Of course, I didn’t watch them blankly because I had something to do. I opened my mouth silently.
‘Check the status window.’

I was Level 131 before starting this quest. But my level increased by 25 in an hour. Thanks to the additional 200 stat points, I had a total of 450 remaining stat points.
I burst into a smile in spite of myself.
Now I seemed to know why my dad and my sister asked me to participate in the quest by all means, for the rewards were huge. Of course, what they really wanted me to do was to focus on getting coins.
Soon, I invested all 450 remaining stat points in Intellectual Power since I had no intention of investing elsewhere. After checking my Intellectual Power that changed to 4,567 and the simultaneous increase in Stamina and Intellectual Power due to Mutual Growth, I closed the status window.
And then a message rang.
[ ‘Stop the Scorpion King’ quest has ended.
-Move to the original position.]
At that moment, someone quickly spoke to me.
“Please remember my ID BIG, user No. 30, and contact me if something happens later. I am a member of the giant guild, and my brother is a guild executive, so I can help you.”
“Me, too!”
“I can help you, too!”
They approached me instantly and spoke like that.
“Sure, thanks,” I replied half-heartedly.
With that, I felt myself being moved back to the first place, the Scorpion Desert Forest.
***
A small meeting room at the Kusan Group Headquarters.
Sokyoung Chung used the memory marble, a valuable item that saved what he saw with his own eyes in the ‘Stop the Scorpion King’ quest. He used it starting in Round 3 because this was the third time he had participated in it. So, he knew how to hunt the monsters faster than he thought, even though there was no particular member on his team.
Of course, he could ignore the item, but because of his level restriction, this was also his last quest. Therefore, he decided to use it. Besides, the monsters collapsed unusually fast, which he couldn’t understand well. After all, he felt it was more beneficial to use the memory marble than to live with queries. Of course, he had enough items at hand.
So, he transferred the recorded video to the computer and played it for everyone to see in the presence of not only his grandpa, the chairman of Kusan Group, but also the top managers taking care of Revival Legend.
“Super talented.”
Chairman Unki Chung, who watched the video from start to finish, commented at the end of the video. It seemed that it was not only the chairman who felt it.
“It is impossible to describe the guy’s abilities, no matter how much I extol him.”
“I agree. He was clearly beyond the generally acceptable range. Our common sense can’t explain it.”
Managing Executive Taesan Lee, the top manager of Kusan Group’s Revival Legend team, and Chief Secretary Suman Ham chimed in.
Looking at Sokyoung, the chairman added, “I wish you were more aggressive enough to make friends with that guy just instead of disclosing your identity to him. I think you truly felt it more than anybody else.”
“Oh, I agree, sir.”
Grandpa was rebuking him lightly, but Sokyoung laughed it off as if he didn’t care.
Then he said immediately, “There was a passage in a book I read when I was young. Humans cannot sense anything beyond their perceptible limits.”
Sokyoung paused for a moment and sipped his tea before continuing immediately.
“Level 400. If he had been Level 400 like me, I would have even doubted he was a bug because no matter how highly I rated his capabilities, I could not give him more than Level 400. But he was only Level 131. Because he was Level 131, I could not think that he was a bug at all. I just thought he was a low-level participant.”
