Chapter 70 - Bora Yon (2)
Chapter 70: Bora Yon (2)
Confirming it was me who stepped inside, my father put down the papers and asked, “What’s going on?”
“You probably know Bora Yon, that granddaughter of Chairman Junghwan Yon of the Mirae Group.”
“Of course, I know her.”
“I got a call from her four hours ago. She wants to see me. Of course, she wants to see not just me, but also Chulmin Kim, Jinah Chong, and Yujin Suh.”
Dad would probably understand why she wants to meet them because this is a gathering of the
3rd and 4th generation sons and daughters of Korea’s top five business groups Mirae, Myongjin, Daesung, Kusan, and Daeyu. My father was the Myongjin Group’s Chairman.
After seeing the pleasant surprise on his face, I added, “So, I replied positively.”
“Oh, good job. Anyway, the Mirae Group seems to be in an urgent situation.”
“Yeah, that’s what I guessed.”
After that, I briefly spoke with my dad about some other topics.
Of course, I had another thing to talk with him about, which was my main topic.
However, from Myongjin’s standpoint, this meeting was clearly very significant.
It was even more important than my A grade quest.
So, I didn’t tell my father about it in detail because I could tell him later after attending the meeting.
Le Chante Hotel in Kangnam.
Originally, I was supposed to arrive here at 8PM according to Bora’s message.
However, I arrived 20 minutes early at 7:40pm. I was driven by my dad’s chauffeur who was residing in my main house in Cheongdam Dong.
Of course, I was dressed up. I entered the hotel, but didn’t didn’t head to the sky lounge or banquet hall. Instead I headed to the first basement floor of the hotel, where a well-known social club and luxury bar called Cloud Nine was located. It was membership-only.
For this reason, I was temporarily stopped at the entrance.
“Can you give me your name and the name of the person who made the reservation?”
“I’m Juyoung Hong, and I think there is a reservation under Bora Yon’s name at 8 PM.”
“Ah! Yes!”
As soon as I finished talking, a man who seemed to be the manager guarding the doorway immediately bowed to me and invited me in.
Then he escorted me to the best deluxe room in the club.
I immediately opened the door of the special room and entered.
“Hey, it’s been a long time, Juyoung.”
Inside, Bora, who I was meeting after a long time, and Jinah Chong, who was one year older than Bora, were chatting with each other
“Oh, long time, no see! Jinah, I’ve not seen you for ages!”
I exchanged greetings with Bora, the organizer of this meeting, and said hello to Jinah next to her.
“Well, I saw you and Suyoung at that meeting last time,” Jinah said.
That was a meeting where Bora was not present. But Jinah casually mentioned it, even though Bora was right here.
“Yeah. Come to think of it, I saw you at that time.”
Since I was not in a position to take care of Bora, I casually responded and settled myself on the soft sofa.
Since I knew the standing of my father’s business group Myongjin compared to other business groups, I didn’t get cold feet here.
Shortly afterwards, Chulmin Kim of the Daesung Group and Youngjin Suh of the Daeyu Group entered. Youngjin Suh was the oldest among us.
“Hey, guys, it’s been a while!”
“Yeah, we should meet sometimes.”
“When we were young, we met often at various meetings. Is everyone here too busy?”
“What can I do? I’m very busy learning lots of stuff at home.”
I knew they were not interested in each other, but they kept exchanging such pleasantries that implied otherwise. Of course, I was doing the same.
After drinking some high-quality liquor, everyone’s eyes gradually turned to Bora Yon because she arranged today’s get-together.
Sip. Sip. Sip.
Boa was aware that everyone had fixed their eyes on her right now, but she kept sipping the wine as if she hadn’t noticed .
However, no one, including myself, asked her to explain why she wanted this meeting.
They knew that even if they didn’t ask, she would bring up the topic.
Indeed, after a few minutes passed, she put down the glass on the table, and opened her mouth after looking at everybody. And they seemed to expect what she would say.
They expected it would be related to the game, ‘Revival Legend’.
Otherwise she would not have taken pains to gather them here in one place.
However, what she actually said was more than just that.
“Forgotten Legend... You guys know it, right?”
Of course, everyone, including me, knew it. .
But I can say confidently that I know it in far more detail than anyone else here.
I spent my whole time exploring the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Closed Beta that lasted two weeks to the extent that I didn’t sleep, nor eat, as I advanced to the next round.
“Man, isn’t that a game that has become a forgotten legend just like the name itself?”
“You bet. How can I forget Forgotten Legend? There are lots of guys who made lots of money from it.”
“Right. It was a miracle game that made the less fortunate who had neither dreams nor hopes turn from rags to riches overnight.”
“Aside from that, it was also the predecessor of Revival Legend, which everyone is crazy about right now.”
Everyone, including me, nodded and answered her question.
After confirming the answer, Bora opened her mouth.
“Yes, that’s right. It’s the predecessor of Revival Legend, the hottest topic right now. That’s why everyone was eager to find those who played Forgotten Legend. They are hell-bent on finding the person who obtained the maximum level during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Closed Betas. Oh, there is no winner who reached the maximum level in the third Closed Beta.”
For some reason, Bora seemed to feel some regrets when she lightly mentioned that the 3rd Closed Beta had no one who reached the maximum level.
However, as soon as she said that, the oldest member here, Daeyu Group’s Youngjin, opened his mouth while holding his glass, “Hey, did you call us for this meeting to repeat what we know already? I hope not.”
This sarcastic question was rather unexpected.
The three leading business groups in Korea are Myongjin, Daesung and Kusan.
Mirae Group was once ahead of all of them, but the Daeyu group lagged far behind.
So, Youngjin did not have the position to challenge them with such a question.
Moreover, aside from Revival Legend, Daeyu was in a dangerous situation right now. If they fell out of favour with the Mirae Group, articles might appear in the press even by tomorrow about a crisis striking them.
“Oh, I think I talked too much, right?” said Youngjin.
However, Bora replied with a smile, as if she did not feel displeased by his words.
“Then, may I ask if any of you has participated in the 1st or 2nd Closed Beta? I don’t want to talk about the 3rd one.”
“...”
“...”
“...”
There was a moment of silence. Of course I remained silent too, even though I was the one who was first in all the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Closed Betas
I didn’t have to announce proudly, ‘Yeah, I took part and I was the only one who got the maximum level in all rounds!’
“Yeah, I thought so. None of you did. Since you are so busy, you can’t play games. Even if you did, I don’t think you would want to disclose it. But let me disclose this. I participated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds, and I obtained the maximum level in the 1st and 2nd rounds!”
She proudly revealed that she was a maximum level achiever in the 1st and 2nd rounds.
The reason she revealed so was obvious. She wanted to show that she had the attributes that every business group was earnestly looking for, and two attributes at that.
Now I realized why she showed regret about not finding the maximum achiever of the third round. It was because she herself could not achieve the maximum level in the 3rd Closed Beta.
“No way…”
“Are you kidding? It’s impossible for a woman like you, the direct successor of the Mirae Group, to have time to leisurely play the Closed Beta. Besides, “Forgotten Legend” was a very common game with no special characteristics at that time.”
“Well, if you had participated in the Closed Beta, how come your group is such a late starter in this game competition?”
Everyone said they did not believe her.
However, as if she already expected their response, she calmly opened her mouth.
“I understand what you all are saying. But that’s what I regret a lot. At that time, I should have acted a little more actively rather than being frustrated that nobody would believe me. Then, I don’t think I would have been humiliated like this.”
