Conquering His Cold Heart

Chapter 216

Chapter 216

216 A Calm Threat

Romulus was the one who looked utterly confused now. He turned to look behind him and mumbled to himself in disbelief, “What the hell just happened? Did that vampire just... run away? Just like that?”

He scoffed in utter dissatisfaction and kicked the broken shards of glass. “Did I just pull off my best acting skill for nothing?” He threw Vincent’s handkerchief on the floor and spat on it.

“I even went through all the trouble to find those herbs in less than six hours. And I had to be practically invisible when I slipped the herbs into those glasses. All that effort for nothing! It would have been more productive to focus on that fool of a King.” He angrily grumbled and then stormed off from there with a sullen face.

When he was almost close to the bathroom where this all started, he suddenly recalled something that he could still use to frame the vampire.

‘Right! The handkerchief!’ He stopped on his path and then closed his eyes. He tried to recall if there were any distinct markings or symbols on that handkerchief that could easily prove who the owner was.

He suddenly flung his eyes open in excitement. ‘The initials! VW! What was his name again?’ He darted his eyes around while trying to recall Vincent’s name.

‘Ah! Yes!’ He smirked and then clapped his hands when he recalled the name. “Vincent Warmane,” he mumbled.

He entered the bathroom to wash off the blood from his hand. While he cleaned his hand, he didn’t realize that he was reciting his plan out loud and wasn’t quietly thinking about it in his head. “I can kill someone and plant that handkerchief to make it look like that vampire was the one who murdered.”

He chuckled to himself and thought that his plan was brilliant.

.....

“Now I just need to fetch that handkerchief before I go and hunt someone down. I don’t want the maids to sweep the floor before I pick it up.”

Keeping that in mind, Romulus walked out of the bathroom to secure the vital piece of evidence for later. He moved his feet faster and faster when he reached that corner. He was getting anxious by the second thinking that someone would clean the floor and throw away the trash.

He heaved a deep sigh when he saw the handkerchief lying on the floor along with all the glass shards, right where he had left them.

Romulus then leaned down to pick the dirty handkerchief from the floor.

However, while he was hurrying to the spot, he forgot to keep track of his surroundings. He didn’t realize that he was being followed by someone.

And right when he was about to pinch that piece of fake evidence, it flew backward from right between his legs.

“What the...” he frowned and quickly turned around to look behind him.

Romulus was surprised to see a man with blond hair holding that handkerchief and examining it.

Hamilton mockingly smiled at Romulus and waved the handkerchief at him.

Romulus nervously smiled and then said, “Umm... I was trying to-”

Hamilton immediately cut him off mid-sentence and then said in a sarcastic tone, “Oh, were you trying to collect the trash? I am extremely sorry, but I think this belongs to my friend.”

Romulus scoffed and said in a stern voice, “Excuse me? I wasn’t trying to collect the trash, sir. I was just trying to see who it belonged to so that I could return it to the rightful owner.”

“Well, you don’t have to go through all that trouble now, sir,” Hamilton also replied with equal bitterness and then further added, “Since I know the owner personally, I think I will spare you the trouble and hand this over myself.”

“Sure.” Romulus pressed his lips into a thin line and forced a smile, no matter how much he was boiling on the inside with those insulting remarks from that vampire.

The only reason why he was keeping quiet was that he wasn’t sure where that vampire was following him from. From the behavior that he was displaying, it looked like he heard something, or at the very least, it looked like he was getting suspicious.

Hamilton slowly inched closer to Romulus, making Romulus’ heartbeat to rise because Hamilton wasn’t breaking off his glare. He almost looked as though he was ready to throw fists.

Though Romulus considered himself a strong wolf, and rightfully so, he had never faced off against a vampire before. He had no way of knowing how he would fare if a fight was to ensue between the two of them. So, he got a little nervous when that vampire kept on inching closer and closer.

Hamilton stood in front of Romulus, put the handkerchief inside his pocket, and then held out his hand for a handshake.

Romulus was confused by that course of action from Hamilton.

“I don’t think I introduced myself to you.” Hamilton smiled and then said, “I am Hamilton Heradi, a famous historian if I might say so myself. Oh, and I am also the only cousin of the King of Sorvando.”

“And I am Romulus Atkinson,” Romulus shook Hamilton’s hand and introduced himself while maintaining his composure.

To Romulus’ surprise again, Hamilton commented while raising his brows, “A werewolf, I presume?”

“Oh, yes.” Romulus pulled his hand away and nervously smiled. For some reason, the very presence of this vampire was giving him chills.

He felt goosebumps running all over his body when he further heard what Hamilton whispered to him.

“I hope we can get along, Mr. Romulus. We don’t want another war to start right here now, do we?”

Hamilton then walked towards the waiting areas as though he hadn’t just threatened Romulus in his most calm voice.

Romulus widened his eyes and pressed his palm over his heart when he realized that Hamilton somehow knew what he was up to. He could clearly tell that it was a warning for him, to not cause trouble.

When the sound of Hamilton’s footsteps disappeared, he gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. And he growled in rage, “How dare he threaten me?”
