Chapter 150 - Story behind the scar
After coming to a decision, Xiu Mei and Lu Chen chose to release the original results of their investigation. The PR team drafted the official statement from that report and Xiu Mei did a final check on it before it was finally released on their website.
It was already nighttime when her second brother’s car arrived in their home.
"Thanks for dropping him off, second brother." Xiu Mei uttered as soon as her second brother dropped off his nephew. Since she and Lu Chen were still busy handling the company issue, she had to call her home and have them drop Lu Qiang at home instead.
"No problem. Mom hogs all the time with him at home so it was a good opportunity for me to have him all for myself when dropping him off here." Xiu Mo Ruo replied. He was carrying the napping Lu Qiang in his arms after playing so much with the dogs in the morning and with Xiu Mo Ruo.
"I’ll carry him."
"It’s fine. He’s already a bit heavy for you so I’ll carry him inside instead. Anyways, will everything be fine? How’s it going on your side?"
Xiu Mei ushered her second brother inside.
"Chaotic but manageable. I think it’ll be fine and Lu Chen is currently taking over some of the stuff I was doing right now so he’s kinda stuck in the study for a while. Ah, I think we should put Lu Qiang back to his room."
Xiu Mo Ruo adjusted his hold on Lu Qiang while climbing up the stairs. He carefully laid the little kid down on his bed upon arriving at his room. Xiu Mei carefully removed his shoes and socks so that he won’t wake up.
After tucking him in properly, Xiu Mei brought her second brother back to the living room. The maid served a cup of tea for both of them right after they sat down on the couch.
Xiu Mei picked up the cup and took a sip. "Did Doctor Lee inform all of you of the results yesterday?"
"Yeah. Dad was really furious when he saw the results."
"Well, even though we had suspicions that someone from our family was involved. It still doesn’t feel good to know that someone of our own blood is trying to kill me. Anyhow, did you see my message yesterday?"
"I did. Though I can’t really say that I remember that person that well too. Dad doesn’t even know where exactly that guy is right now. Grandfather Xiu said that the last news that he heard from him was that he moved to the United States."
Then Xiu Mo Ruo paused as if he remembered something. Xiu Mei quickly caught up on him and leaned closer to her brother.
"What?"
"I just remembered something about that guy actually. Though I’m not quite sure if I’m remembering it right though." He put his hand in his chin while he was thinking. He frowned, trying to recall that memory.
"What is it?"
"It’s about how that person got his scar on his face. I think I remember hearing that when we eavesdropped onetime when we played at Grandfather Xiu’s place before."
Xiu Mei recalled the sketch she saw and the distinct scar that she saw on the paper. It was that very scar that made her recognize that guy as well since he stood out among all their relatives back then.
"I think he got that scar from a car accident many years ago. I’m not sure what exactly happened but I think someone died in that accident too."
"A car accident?"
Xiu Mei tilted her head. She realized that what her brother was saying sounded familiar too. It seems like she also heard that story as well but she can’t completely remember the story at all. After all, she was really young when she heard it.
"Yeah, but when we heard that, I think Grandpa was talking--no, more like having a heated argument with someone?"
"Arguing? Who did he argue with?"
"That guy, grandfather’s cousin. Hmm, let me think about it." Xiu Mo Ruo paused. Since that part of his memory was already a bit hazy, and he didn’t consider it that important back then so he couldn’t remember much at all.
If it was his twin, then surely he might be able to recite even the dialogues of the whole argument. Between the two siblings, Xiu Min was the one who remembers things very well just by hearing and reading it once.
"Ah! I think it was because of a woman. Then it was the sound of something crashing. Then grandfather yelled to him that it wasn’t his doing or something along those lines. Sorry, I don’t exactly remember the whole context." Xiu Mo Ruo tried hard to remember the bits and pieces.
Xiu Mei tried to piece together what her second brother shared with her.
Her grandfather Xiu and that person argued because of a woman? And then he said that he didn’t do it? Hmm...
Xiu Mei fell into contemplation.
Weird. Why does it feel like she was forgetting something important? Like something was ringing inside her head but she couldn’t recognize it?
"If it’s about a woman,... maybe that guy has a wife or a girlfriend? I doubt it’s marriage though since we would’ve remembered if we attended his wedding ceremony." Xiu Mei replied.
"Me too. I don’t think they got married unless they got married in secret. Or maybe he has a different relationship with that woman?"
"Could be. But then why did that person go abroad? Did grandfather mention something about it?"
"Not exactly. But I think that person moved to the United States to handle some business there. He never returned to the country again afterward. Well, keeping that in mind. Maybe that’s not even the reason why he moved abroad. Maybe he was trying to escape and hide in the United States once we figure out that he’s involved in your kidnapping. After all, he moved after that incident." Xiu Mo Ruo voiced out his assumptions after analyzing the facts and the information that they have.
Xiu Mei nodded, agreeing to his speculations. What her second brother drew out from the results was highly possible to be the truth.
Then she suddenly remembered the most important part.
"But didn’t you say that Grandfather Xiu’s last news about him was when he moved away?"
It’s a problem she realized just now. Doesn’t this mean that they don’t even know where is that person right now?
Isn’t that a really big problem?
What’s the use of knowing that he has involvement in her kidnapping if they don’t know where he is and they won’t be able to question him at all?
"I know. That’s why both Mom and Dad are currently mobilizing their connections abroad so they could locate him. It might even take a while too since we’re not even sure if he’s really still in the United States or he returned to the country without us knowing."
Hearing that, Xiu Mei fell silent for a moment as she pondered about her options.
"Then I’ll use my contacts as well. If it’s about international connections, who among all of us have the best contacts? Maybe we could consider it my domain?" She offered.
Even though her parents have extensive contacts and a good relationship with some people internationally, among their family, the one who would probably have the best connections would be her and Xiu Mo Ruo.
Her second brother would often travel for diplomacy related matters because of his connections with some high ranking officials in various countries. As for Xiu Mei, in the four years of being Lu Corporation’s secretary, her extensive connections to various people are not limited to businessmen but also some high profile people as well.
She even developed some relationsh.i.p.s with some foreigners for some materials they need for their clothing lines before. If we compare to her second brother, she would be the best choice in gaining contacts abroad.
"Will you be okay with that?" Xiu Mo Ruo frowned, worrying whether it was too much to make his younger sister find that person. After all, that person is now under suspicion of harming her and causing her traumas.
"I’ll be fine, I think. If we don’t use what we have right now, what’s the use right? Besides,..." Xiu Mei leaned back to the couch of the sofa and sipped on her slightly cold tea.
"...I want to find the truth behind my kidnapping as well." Xiu Mo Ruo could feel the gloominess in her voice when she said that.
He stared at her figure for a few seconds as if he was realizing something then he reached out his hand and pulled her into a hug.
"Little Princess, you’ve grown up really well." He patted her in the head when complimenting her.
It seems like their little princess grew up quickly when they weren’t watching ah.
And he was realizing just now how much he and his family were shielding her from this pain that they didn’t even see that she was suffering for so long because they didn’t let her face the pain at all.
