Chapter 67 Emily’s Plan (2)

Kerwin stared calmly at Betty. He grabbed her hands tightly, even Betty’s heart warming up. Betty got tears in her eyes. Old Bruce was also stunned. Henry, who remained silent until now, couldn’t bear it anymore and scolded Kerwin in a low voice, “Kerwin, how can you talk to grandfather like this. Where are your manners? You disgrace all our family for marrying such a shameless woman. Just apologize now.” Kerwin stared at Henry coldly. Henry got terrified by Kerwin’s cold look. “Henry,” Kerwin said to him in a frigid voice. “She is my wife. Don’t tell me what should I do.” Henry turned pale and wanted to say something but only keep his mouth shut when hearing Old Bruce clearing his throat for a hint.

Henry didn’t dare to say anything but turn to Old Bruce. “We’ll discuss it later. After all, Kerwin married her legally,” Old Bruce said faintly in a calin tone. “Stop fighting against each other, you two. Let’s discuss it after a thorough investigation.” At this moment, Betty was stunned. She didn’t know much about Old Bruce. But she heard that he was decisive and ruthless. Otherwise, he would not gain a firm foothold in Chicago and built his business career. But she didn’t expect that Old Bruce could be so calm and just let Betty off even if she brought disgrace to the Martin family in front of so many people. Henry and Kerwin were also shocked by Old Bruce’s remarks. But knowing that old Bruce was a man of his word, Henry didn’t dare to say anything. Emily couldn’t accept it. Her eyes widened. She thought that she could destroy Betty once and for all this time. But nothing happened. Kerwin showed no single trace of disgusting Betty. Even Old Bruce let her go easily. What the hell was going on! Emily suddenly blurted out, “Great-Grandfather, all these were…” Before Emily finished, Old Bruce suddenly turned to her with sharp eyes, which scared Emily all over. “Who are you?” Old Bruce said coldly. “I am not your great-grandfather. You haven’t married into our Martin family yet. You have no right to say anything.”

Emily was really scared with a cold sweat. She never expected that her little trick, instead of destroying Betty, made a bad impression on Old Bruce. She did not dare to say a word instantly. She’ just lowered her head, biting her lip hard. Emily kept wondering why Betty could be so lucky to escape all this. She

couldn’t accept the fact at all. Then all people ate food in silence, After the meal, people came to the hall to dance, The band played on the stage, melodious music ringing out in the spacious hall. Men and women embraced each other and danced gracefully. The waiters walked through the crowd with champagne and red wine in their trays. Some people formed into small groups to have a chat. Everything just looked the same as the banquet on TV, But Betty felt that she didn’t belong here. Standing behind Kerwin’s wheelchair, she noticed the glances and mocks of people from time to time, “Kerwin…” Looking at Emily and Jeffrey dancing in the center of the hall with people watching and applauding, Betty felt more uncomfortable. “Shall we go home?” They couldn’t dance anyway. They had nothing else to do here. “We are staying here tonight,” said Kerwin. Betty got a little upset. But she couldn’t say anything but nod. “Hmm, you don’t want to stay here?” Kerwin put on a gloomy look. “Are you feeling unwell because of what happened just now?” Betty was embarrassed and didn’t know what to say. “I don’t care. I suffered more abuse and humiliation two years ago. I’m just afraid you’re not happy here.” Betty really meant it. Kerwin was her husband after all. She was afraid that others might despise him for marrying her, a woman who had a shameful past. Betty couldn’t stand to watch Kerwin, a perfect good man, being degraded to a laughingstock because of her. Hearing this, Kerwin was stunned at first. But seeing her being nervous and upset, Kerwin felt sorry for her. “Betty,” Kerwin said suddenly. “Do you want to dance?” “Dance?” Betty was stunned. “With who?” Since Kerwin was in a wheelchair, Betty naturally thought that he couldn’t dance. But she didn’t know anyone here, either. Seeing Betty in confusion, Kerwin couldn’t help chuckling. “With me.” As Kerwin said so, he grabbed Betty’s hand suddenly. Betty became more confused. Before she could react, Kerwin maneuvered his wheelchair to the center of the hall. Betty, following him, walked into the center, “Kerwin?” Betty was completely dumbfounded. “What are you doing?” “Dance with me.” Kerwin smiled gently at Betty. “Didn’t you say that you learned how to dance before? Can you remember it?” Betty realized that Kerwin really meant it. She blushed at once. “Eh, I was just talking nonsense. I can’t even follow the beat.” Kerwin put on a brighter smile.”Oh? That’s even better.” Betty still couldn’t understand. Before she said anything, Kerwin grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms suddenly. “Kerwin? Ah?” Betty

got flustered and struggled to get up, but with Kerwin’s arms around her slender waist area firmly, she couldn’t move at all. “Relax yourself.” Kerwin looked down at her and smiled. “We are dancing,”
