Chapter 96 The Handkerchief

“I… I have already tried to contact Mr. Thomas, but he is currently abroad attending a design conferenc e. His cell phone was off, so I can‘t reach him for the time being.”

“Try to contact him!” Kerwin growled. “Then let him come back to see me right away!”

The man turned white with fear. “Yes, Mr. Martin.”

Kerwin, who was in no mood to work, quickly rolled out of the room.

Peter hurried to catch up with him.

“Has Betty come home yet?” he asked coldly.

“Lillian just called and said she‘s home.”

Kerwin‘s face softened a little, but suddenly he realized that he was still holding the handkerchief in his hand. He immediately threw it to Peter with disgust. “Throw it away, and buy the factory that made it. I

don‘t want to see that handkerchief appear in the world again.”

Peter looked puzzled. “But Mr. Thomas…”

“Do as I say at once!”

By the time Kerwin got home, Betty was asleep.

She shared a bed with him last night and did not slept well. Today she was so tired that she went to sleep right after dinner.

Kerwin walked in and found Betty lying in bed in the strappy backed silk dress he‘d had Lillian buy for h er, wrapped in a quilt. Her thin shoulders and back were exposed.

He frowned slightly.

Betty had a habit of hugging the quilt instead of pulling it over her. Sometimes when he woke up at nigh t, he would cover her so that she would not catch a cold.

But Lillian bought her a revealing dress, which would make her more likely to get sick.

After Kerwin closed the door, he got up from his wheelchair. As soon as he reached the bed to help Bet ty with the quilt, she rolled over and revealed her back.

For a moment, Kerwin was surprised. He now understood why the maid bought this nightwear for her.

It was a black low–cut slip dress, which was embroidered with delicate patterns. It gave a nice contrast to Betty‘s fair skin and set off her slende r figure.

He smiled when he saw how beautiful his wife looked in the nightdress.

Suddenly, the woman rubbed her sleepy eyes.“Kerwin?”

When she saw him standing next to the bed, Betty was at first surprised, but soon she was calm. “You‘r e back.”

When she got home, she was so tired that she fell asleep quickly. Now that she saw her husband, she i mmediately remembered what Jessica had told her during the day.

Kerwin didn‘t speak right away, but picked up the quilt to cover Betty‘s body. “Wear more clothes when you sle ep in case you might catch a cold,” he whispered.

She looked down at her new dress and blushed. “I‘m going away for a day. When I got back, Lillian threw away all my old pajamas. This is the only one left.”

Betty regretted going to her apartment yesterday. She didn‘t get anything. Instead, Lillian threw her clot hes away. Sure enough, she was no match for these servants who worked for rich people.

“How is your wound?” asked Kerwin. He then grabbed Betty‘s arm and saw the crooked bandages, fro wning. “You haven‘t changed it?”

Betty flinched slightly. “I‘ll change it right away.”

Then she tried to get out of bed, but Kerwin held her down. “Let me help you. I‘m afraid it won‘t be easy for you to apply the medication with your left hand.”

He quickly returned with swabs and medicine.

Betty couldn‘t remember how many times Kerwin had changed her dressing since she was injured

She looked up and saw his handsome face in a stupor for a few seconds.

From this position, she noticed Kerwin‘s long, thick eyelashes and obsidian eyes. As a girl, Betty didn‘t t hink she was as attractive

as he was.

Watching him so focused, she suddenly thought about her day in the office. “Kerwin, can I ask you som ething?”

He was busy applying medicine to her wound and did not look up.

“Did that necklace belong to your former girlfriend?” Betty plucked up the courage to ask.

Hearing her, Kerwin stopped his movements, but soon he continued to rub the ointment on her wound

“Yes,” he said flatly.

Betty was surprised that he did not refuse to answer the question. She was so relieved.

“You must like her very much.”

This time, Kerwin looked up at her. His dark eyes were deep and showed no emotion. “Why do you ask that?” asked he quietly.

“I find you look sad every time you look at that necklace,” she whispered and regretted asking him abou

His eyes glittered, then he looked down and

continued the application.

Just when Betty thought Kerwin didn‘t want to continue the subject, he spoke up again.

“I feel sorry for her.”

It took Betty several seconds to realize what Kerwin had said.

Her heart gave a shiver. Did he really abandon Julia ten years ago to survive the fire? So that‘s why he f

No…. it can‘t be. She shook her head, not daring to ask him more.

At Martin family‘s old mansion, Bruce had gone to bed early.

Henry was still in his study. Before him stood a bent man whose face could not be clearly seen in the lig

“Are you serious? Kerwin really had sex with

his wife?” Henry looked very gloomy. “The damn cripple!”

“Sure enough,” said the man standing in front of the desk. “Old Bruce is concerned about it, so I watch t

“Damn it!” Henry smashed the table, his eyes blazing. “If all goes well, that woman Betty might have Kerwin‘s child soon.”
