Chapter 393: Qian Meng's Trusted General
That evening when Yun Sui Bo's secretary drank, she did as she always did. She started to vent about how evil her boss was. The good thing about her was, she didn't remember these things when she woke up the next morning.
"I can hold my drinks really well," she always said, but then she embarrassed herself all the time. It was a good thing that none of her superiors at work had seen her this was. Because this woman sure knew how to swear and curse her boss and company.
Li Min slowly sipped on her non-alcoholic drink and listened to the endless whines. Until she hit the lottery.
"I think the President is going to kick the Vice President out," she slurred.
Li Min's hand stopped in front of her face in surprise, but she concealed any form of emotion on her face. "Why would you think that?" she asked in the calmest voice possible.
The other popped her head up and gave a look of distress. "The President said as much." She sighed in deep regret. "Even if the VP really did spread the rumor… he was probably doing it for the company."
"What rumor?" Li Min asked, pretending like she didn't know anything.
"You know… the one about financial struggles in the company?" She paused. "I don't know a lot about it because I am not allowed to read the papers, but what if there really are financial issues?" she asked.
"Not much will happen to the company," Li Min started. "Can't say the same about the employees, though." She coughed to hide the small smile on her face.
"What does that mean?" The secretary panicked.
Li Min shrugged. "When large corporations face monetary shortage, they find imaginative reasons to cut off their workforce or not pay them," she said. "Companies rip off poor employees all the time in the name of saving the corporation."
"There are a lot of those?" the other squeaked.
Li Min nodded. "Recently, a lot of companies have been firing thirty to forty percent of their workforce. Some are even cutting the salary because the company is facing a hard time." Li Min took a sip of her drink as she scrutinized the expression of the others.
Surrounding them were other secretaries of the leading executives in Yun Corporation. They, too, listened sombrely to Li Min speak.
"If Yun Corporation is really facing financial problems, the people at the top of the ladder won't feel it."
Someone scoffed. "Executives rarely take pay cuts. No matter what, their salaries and benefits are ensured."
"True."
The atmosphere grew heavy and no one seemed to be in a mood to speak freely. When the get-together ended, Li Min rose up and took her leave.
"I have to work early tomorrow, I will head out," she informed everyone. After bidding goodbye, she walked out into the street and sucked in a cleansing breath.
She pulled out her cell phone and called the number that she had been dying to since the inside information started spilling.
The phone rang a mere few seconds before Qian Meng picked it up.
"You're done already?" she asked, not even surprised. Li Min had already said that she went to these get-togethers to get inside information. She was unashamed of it and Qian Meng didn't mind playing dirty either.
As long as it was all hush-hush, who cared?
"Yes, I just came out." Li Min raised her hand to flag off a cab. "Give me a minute. I am just entering the cab," she said slowly.
Qian Meng quietened down and leaned into the bed as she waited. She heard the cab door slam and knew that the information was going to spill out.
"The shareholders are continuously calling the secretary's office. The information has been conveyed to Mr. Yun and he is, as you expected, evading responsibility. A meeting for shareholder will be called and the Vice President is working on it," she summarized quickly. "But Mr. Yun is ready to fire the VP under the suspicion that he was the one that gave out the information," Li Min said finally.
Qian Meng sucked in a happy breath. "As we expected. I thought it would be another executive, but Yun Sui Bo went for the only person who he thinks threatens his position," she snorted.
She had to give it to Mr. Yun for being a paranoid bastard who can't stand when someone else is better equipped to take control than he was.
"I did act on my own, though," Li Min said apologetically.
"Oh?" Qian Meng asked without much concern. Li Min had been following her for so long that Qian Meng considered her an intelligent general who could see where her action was going to result in.
"The secretaries were worried about the company and I let it slip that usually the employees suffer in such situations."
Qian Meng was silent. "You did good. Secretaries come in contact with the maximum number of people. The word will spread quickly," she responded. "This was not part of the plan, but it could be a good move." She paused when she thought of something. "Are you sure your name won't get mentioned in the mix?"
That was the only concern.
"My name will absolutely not be mentioned. Secretaries and assistants are extremely loyal to one another. I think we bond over the hatred for the demon boss."
Qian Meng chuckled. Indeed, she was sometimes a demonic boss, but she wouldn't let her free-spirited secretary be done wrong because of that.
"Good. Thank you for taking time out of your personal life for this. You shall get a beautiful bonus." Qian Meng knew that Li Min loved extra money over holidays. She was okay with it. "Get off the clock and have fun."
The phone was hung up and Qian Meng fiddled with her phone as she thought.
Mo Qingchen walked into the bedroom and saw Qian Meng sitting on the bed with the laptop in front of her. She was thoughtful as she stared at her cell phone.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked.
"My father is suspicious of his VP. I am trying to word how I should approach him," she informed.
"His VP is Li Wenyue, right?" Mo Qingchen asked. Qian Meng nodded in acknowledgment. "He is known to be loyal to his work. I don't think he will take kindly if you reach out to him," he said slowly.
