Chapter 416: Chapter 24 - New Diary entry
Skyy bit his lips anxiously, looking around the room.
Just a few minutes ago, he was stuck in this room alone with that scary-looking woman, but now there were even more people. The siblings were here, the scary sister was here, along with the kind cat-eared guy they met in the orphanage. As for why they were all in the same room with him, he had no clue.
Chen noticed his look and waved at him. "What is your world called?"
Skyy frowned. "Earth."
"No, like your planet's name?"
"Earth?" he dutifully glanced at him.
Chen sighed. "I told you you were overreacting," Zara knocked his head.
"No, I'm serious. What if he really is an alien and carries many pathogens with him? We will all be dead!" Chen exclaimed, rubbing his head. "That hurts."
"Sorry," Zara gently massaged his scalp. "We don't have to isolate ourselves."
"It's better to be precautious than not," Chen sighed. "What do you say, Aunt Tina?"
Tian glanced up at him. "I think Chen is right."
"See, I told you I was right," Chen spitefully glared at his sister. "Come here, let me knock your head."
"No! aunty~ he is trying to bully me," she clung to Tian.
"Tsk, wimp," Chen glared at her.
Skyy watched their exchange with a small smile on his face. The siblings had a good relationship; they seemed similar to him and Kyle. 'I miss Kyle...' he hesitantly gazed at Chen. "W-when can I meet Kyle?"
"Huh?" Chen seemed startled. "Uncle Muriong's base is quite far. It will take us around five days or so."
"C-Can I go there?" he wanted to be with Kyle. Even though these strangers were good to him, he still did not feel that comfortable. "I want Kyle."
Chen scratched his head with a frown. "We are running low on fuel. Solar power bike is being manufactured; we might have to wait a bit longer."
Skyy silently pouted. "How long?"
"Long," Chen apologetically smiled. "But you can talk to your friend if you want. He is very safe there. Trust me; Uncle Muriong's base is much safer than ours. They have high walls and security."
Skyy smiled softly. "Okay…"
The room fell silent at this.
"Are you really an alien?" suddenly the middle-aged lady asked him.
"I'm not."
"Chen said you were something called a PW."
Skyy bit his lips. 'Kyle told me not to tell anyone…'
"It's okay if you don't want to tell me. I just want to know what we are dealing with." The scary lady looked at him with her eyes narrowed.
"It's Prototype Women…"
"What is that?"
"Prototype woman?" Skyy pouted, hugging his bent knees tightly.
Tian sighed. "He doesn't seem to know much. Where did you find him?"
"The old leather factory," Chen mumbled, gazing at the young man. "He seemed to be unaware of zombies."
Tian nodded. "So do you know what a zombie is?" She cast a glance at the young man.
Skyy shook his head. "What is it?"
"A person who is dead but not dead."
Skyy frowned. "What?"
"We call them the undead. In the year 2022, a huge meteor crashed into Earth, bringing about a very contagious virus. This said virus killed the host and also took over the body, making them cannibalistic creatures that hunted their own kind. But for some humans, their bodies evolved. They developed abilities." A small flame arose from her fingertips.
"We fought back against them, and in about twenty years, we finally were able to get the upper hand. We even have a cure now."
Skyy gaped at them. The history they were told was completely different. "So, ability users are born because of the virus infection? Am I infected too?" He gazed at his bandaged feet.
"You could be," Chen mumbled under his breath.
"So I could turn into a... a corpse that eats flesh or an ability user?"
"Chances are fifty-fifty," Tian walked up to him and gently touched his forehead.
Skyy flinched away.
"Your temperature is normal. That means you are not infected." She then glared at Chen. "Didn't you check his temperature?"
Chen sheepishly grinned. "I kind of forgot."
"Tsk..." Tian gritted her teeth. "I stand corrected. We are wasting time here. Isolation is useless." She walked out.
"Aunt…" Chen shot up and followed after her.
So did the other occupants of the room.
Skyy poked his head out of the broken door frame. The scary woman hit Chen on the head and pulled him to another room. 'She is not that scary.'
Finally, he was left all alone in the room. Skyy pulled the diary from his butt and hugged it close. This was the only remnant from where he was. Because this place… it doesn't seem to be the Earth. 'No… it is Earth… but not the time we live in.'
He had extensively read the history books in his free time. This virus infection the scary woman talked about happened a few thousand years ago. The book only vaguely covered that topic when talking about the origin of ability users. "But how did we get here…"
Their escape pod was about to crash, and there was a blinding white light. 'Did the light have to do with anything…' He also distinctly remembered seeing that rat glowing slightly when it happened. 'The rat is the reason? No… maybe…' He rubbed his face. 'I don't know…'
Frustrated, he looked around. The room did not have books here. He really wanted to read something to distract him. Only the old leather diary was left. 'At least flipping through empty pages will soothe my nerves…' He flipped it open.
To his surprise, the book opened to a particular page with writings on it. "This wasn't here before…" he gently caressed the words. They looked handwritten. The handwriting was so beautiful.
It read, "In the year 2040, I arrived on Earth…"
Followed by another entry, "I was rescued by someone kind, but the person has a very bad temper. I ate my first bread. It tasted good."
Skyy frowned. "Who wrote this?" This book had not left his clothes. No one could have written on it without him being aware of. A photo fell from between the pages. "The picture… it…"
Picking it up, his eyes went wide as saucers. "Why is the picture so clear… this is Chen…" The taller man was Chen, and he was hugging a smaller man whose face was not that visible.
