Chapter 145: Moving Bridge
TREMBLE!
“Fuck!” without hesitating even a second more, Khal spun around and began to run away as though he was chased.
Rubie obviously noticed the sudden change of events in the distance too, hence followed Khal closely from behind.
Swish!
With the help of his recovered Body Essence, Khal was able to use his Crimson Snake Dance with greater proficiency while also increasing his speed by a huge margin!
Essence akin to blue flames spun around his leg, his feet left deep pits in the ground while his body burst toward the nearest bridge at a terrifyingly fast pace!
While running, Khal glanced at the map, but what he saw didn’t make his complexion any happier at all.
On the map, a bridge with a ridiculously long length could be seen, its other end reaching another section on the north that was also fading away just like the one he was currently on!
“This is definitely bad news!” exclaimed Scarlett loudly, her eyes holding worry as she didn’t want to see Khal die this way.
“This is full of crap! How should he even survive like that? He will fall into the ocean and die!” Raffin seemed angry as he would have never thought the tournament will be so shameless to kill participants like this.
It was as though they particularly selected some including Khal and giving them no chance for survival at all, they threw them right into death’s arm!
However, even before Raffin could have become angrier, Jas suddenly shook his head and said, “That shouldn’t be the case. Look closely, the bridge on the north is on the move.”
Upon hearing Jas’s voice, everyone’s gaze shifted onto the black line closest to Khal, only to see it gradually move toward the south together with the rest of the bridges around the map!
“It’s moving? But why? Shouldn’t they vanish together with the sections?” asked one of the twin teachers on the side, but it seemed no one could answer that question.
Khal obviously noticed this too and without any hesitation changed directions.
If he wanted to survive he must first reach the bridge no matter what! However, for that to happen he must make a shortcut and reach the point where the bridge will be once he reaches the section’s edge.
Accelerating his speed further to increase his speed, Khal moved swiftly toward the northwest, the point where he should jump on the bridge before the section would vanish.
Swish!
Running with insane speed, the Essence around Khal’s leg left blue flicker behind his wake and once he reached the edge of the section glanced toward the right.
There, quite far in the distance, Khal was able to see the moving bridge he saw on the map, thus without hesitation began to approach it.
Though, the moment he did and got a greater sight on the bridge his complexion changed in a flash.
“There’s someone else on it!” thought Khal as his eyes caught a small figure in the middle of the bridge’s surface.
It was a guy, wearing a dark red robe with symbols akin to flames all over its surface. He was firmly clenching the side of the bridge as it was moving, fearing he would fall into the water below and die.
And exactly as he noticed the guy, as though he felt his stare on his skin, the guy turned his head toward his direction, his eyes fixed firmly on his approaching figure.
“At least he can’t move.” thought Khal as he knew just how hard it was not to fall off that bridge thanks to the powerful storm.
About a few minutes later, Khal finally reached the bridge, but before stepping onto it he made sure Rubie fly into his robe, and only after that did he jump onto the bridge.
And exactly as he did, the pleasantly warm breeze from the section was directly replaced with a powerful gust of wind, crashing straight into his body, almost pushing him off the bridge!
“I definitely didn’t miss this…” said Khal, his hair and robe wildly fluttering in the air.
As the bridge moved, Khal stared at the part where he just stood a moment ago turning into blue fragments, causing the entire section to vanish into nothingness in a blink!
“Sigh…” sighing with relief as he was able to escape just in time, Khal turned to look at the guy and opened his mouth.
However, after thinking for a while he diced to close it back, as no matter how loud he would try to speak, his endeavor would only be useless thanks to the deafening storm around them.
Instead, he took out his badge and inspected the map, trying to figure out what he should do next.
To him, it was a bit suspicious and confusing as to why all of this was happening as the time for constraints didn’t come yet. It seemed something must have happened or the staff simply wanted to accelerate things a bit just for fun.
Either way, Khal was happy to see he was fine and the bridge they were currently on was moving toward another section somewhere else in the middle region at a steady pace.
“I should be okay once we reach the next section.” thought Khal, as he saw that he will be able to step foot way before the other guy could have the chance.
And once he does… He will kill him without hesitation!
Neither Khal nor the guy attempted to approach the other one, knowing whoever does it first will die.
That’s why they waited patiently to arrive before the next section. Until then, they clenched their teeth powerfully together, withstanding the powerful gust of wind that crashed continuously onto their body in the hope to blow them away.
Time flowed in silence and about an hour later Khal finally spotted a section in the distance, resulting in his eyes brightening up like stars.
“There it is!” Khal seemed happy and even began to approach the edge of the bridge as it will soon attach itself onto the section at any given moment.
The guy behind him obviously seemed to understand his aim, hence strolled toward Khal with steady steps, his complexion determined to stop him.
He understood that if Khal steps foot onto the section first it literally meant his death, thus he had to stop him no matter what!
However, just as he took a step forward he noticed Khal’s gaze on his skin, a black crystal weapon already tightly held in his grasp.
The indication was relatively obvious that even an idiot should understand, but unfortunately, the guy didn’t care about it; he could decide and wait on the bridge until someone appeared and attracted Khal’s attention, but he was a Cultivator!
He would rather die because he decided to fight instead of waiting in one place like some kind of coward!
He killed everyone in this tournament only with his sheer force and boldness and he will do exactly the same with Khal!
Though, if anyone else would have heard this, they would definitely have laughed at him as his behavior was not courage or boldness, but simple foolishness!
A great Cultivator was not strong because he or she was brave in the face of death, but because they could adapt to situations and think for the best solutions in any given situation.
Sometimes the best solution was to stay back and wait patiently while doing nothing. And this situation was exactly this, yet the guy failed to notice this just because he wanted to show his ‘superiority’!
When Khal noticed as the guy wasn’t stopping even after his obvious sign, he frowned and thought, “Is this guy nuts or just simply stupid? Or maybe he does not fear death?”
But before he could have thought any further, he watched the guy extending his arm toward him, crimson light immediately enveloping the ground below his feet!
“Huh?”
