Chapter 238: Invitation
Ironically, I was concerned about the safety of others, but I didn’t expect that my own safety would be threatened.
The next day after class, I was blocked by two men in black.
“Miss Nanxing, excuse me. Could you please come with us? We have something to discuss with you,” One of them said to me politely and formally.
I studied them. They did not look like members of the underworld. They didn’t have the aura of a gangster. They were a little too formal.
One of them showed me his ID. I looked at it. I was very surprised. “I’m sorry but am I in some kind of trouble?”
The person shook his head. “Miss Nanxing, this is just a private meeting, don’t think too much of it.
I thought for a moment, nodded, and got into their car.
His Id showed that he was a government agent. I couldn’t think of any connection I would have with the government. In any case, I obliged for now because I didn’t want to bring trouble to Sky City.
By now, Sky City was not mine alone. My gang was getting bigger and larger, and I was their leader so I had to protect them. Of course, I had nothing to be afraid of because Sky City wasn’t involved in anything illegal.
I couldn’t guess why the government agency wanted to find me but as a law-abiding citizen, I was willing to cooperate with the government. I followed them fearlessly. I didn’t need to worry about my personal safety because behind me was Sky City.
I activated the transmitter on my watch. This way, my location would be traced by the receiver at home at all times.
The car stopped at a Chinese restaurant.
After getting out of the car, I looked around, we had already left the city. The surrounding environment was very quiet. With one glance, I noticed there were many mobile posts around. If something did happen to me, it would not be easy for Sky City to save me. Of course, I didn’t want things to come to that. I was to protect Sky City and not the other way round.
The restaurant was classically Chinese and the decoration was very elegant.
I was led to a private booth named Phoenix Pavillion. The men who brought me turned around and left.
I looked around and sat at the dining table. I took out my cell phone, there was no signal. There was a signal jammer nearby.
About 10 minutes later, the booth’s door opened. A middle-aged man in his 50s walked in. He was followed by a young man who was probably his assistant. The assistant stood at the door. From the way he comported himself, he must have received professional training.
The middle-aged man strode to the dining table. I stood up. This was basic decency, not because I was afraid of him.
“You’re Miss Nanxing?” The middle-aged man looked at me.
“Yes.” I answered. He signaled for me to sit down.
We sat opposite each other. He sized me up. I was not servile or hostile. I studied him too.
He had a normal appearance but there was a majestic aura about him. It made his eyes look especially sharp.
“Your father, Nan Zheng, was the second master of the Nan family. Your mother, Tong Huan, was a mafia princess and was well-known in the underworld. They passed away when you were six years old. You were adopted by your uncle, Nan Feng. You were given to the eldest grandson of the Jing Family, Jing Ning as his wife. You were not loved by your aunt and cousin. You grew up with difficulty. When you were 17, you suddenly changed. You canceled your engagement to Jing Ning and tried hard to get into M University. You reconnected with your little uncle, Tong Le. He had spent a lot to regain your custody and to save you from the Nan Family. You started your own gang, and successfully got into M University. Your name as Sister Xing of Sky City started to grow too.”
