Chapter 42: Purple Goo
Following the connection they had between each other, Blake traversed the forest without a shred of hesitation as he went in a certain direction as if he knew the forest like the back of his hand and knew what he would find there.
Although it’s true that Blake did memorize a large part of the forest already since he had basically memorized every path that he had taken due to his memory, that didn’t mean he had memorized all parts of the forest yet.
The forest was simply too big that even when he and Robus had spent the whole week running around here and there, the two had never come across the edge of the forest yet.
But that didn’t necessarily mean a bad thing since both Blake and Robus needed to fight and defeat other demons so they could make themselves stronger, or leveling up in Blake’s case.
The larger the forest only means the higher possibility of there being more demons, which was a good thing for the two.
Blake wanted to level up, evolve, and reach the second realm as fast as possible to see whether he could come back to his own world and make sure his little sister was safe while Robus simply had the instinct that all demons had when they were born which was to get stronger and stronger.
And right now, after constantly moving his feet for about more than half an hour, Blake had stopped on a tall tree branch while he observed the fight that happened some distance away in front of him.
.....
Blake stayed some distance away because he didn’t want to interrupt the fight, but he stayed close enough that he got a clear view of the two creatures that were exchanging punches and tail swipes.
One of them was a huge gorilla that was covered by a black, brownish rock armor while the other was a lizard that would have a similar size to the gorilla that was half as tall as the trees if it were to stand on its hind legs.
And Blake was certainly familiar with the gorilla since even without feeling the connection he had with Robus, the dark earth armor that was significantly darker than the other gorilla’s armor was a clear sign telling him of the gorilla that was fighting against a huge lizard that looked more familiar to another creature called komodo dragon.
Its body was bulky and filled with muscle that was even able to match Robus’ strength.
But of course, with Robus being a biped that had arms separated from his legs, Robus was much more superior in wrestling and throwing kicks and punches compared to the komodo dragon.
The only thing that Robus needed to watch out for was its tail swipe that packed a lot of punch since the dark earth armor would probably be able to defend against the komodo dragon’s bite.
Blake wondered what took the gorilla so long to finish the fight when Robus was supposedly superior compared to the komodo dragon.
And Blake finally found the possible reason why the fight didn’t seem to be as simple as how it looked.
The dark earth armor that was tougher than anything Blake had known so far, including steel, had been damaged so badly that Blake could see Robus’ darkish fur hidden beneath it.
Most of the armor was still intact, but parts of the armor on Robus’ left shoulder were completely missing. Gone as if nothing had been there.
‘What could possibly destroy the dark earth armor to such a degree? Maybe it was the creature’s bloodline power? I guess it’s the case... I guess that would have also happened to me if I were hit by the crow’s wind tornado.’ Blake wondered as he watched the fight.
He had made a prior agreement with Robus beforehand that whichever defeated their enemy first would come to the others and help, but Blake knew that Robus’ love to fight strong enemies didn’t lose out to his, even probably higher than him.
So right now, Blake was basically standing near Robus and letting the gorilla fight to its heart’s content and he would only move if it seemed that Robus was being put at a great disadvantage.
Although from far away it seems that Robus was controlling the flow of the fight by positioning his body left and right and trying to punch the komodo dragon’s head as hard as he could, the truth was that Robus was cautious of his current enemy.
Just as Blake had guessed, the creature’s bloodline power was the one that had caught Robus off-guard and resulted in the left side of his armor being destroyed.
If Robus wasn’t being careful and didn’t use his dark earth armor, he could already imagine his bones being displayed for everyone to see if he was hit by the creature’s bloodline power.
And his current act of changing his position every so often was Robus’ way of countering the komodo dragon’s bloodline power that the creature might use any second in the fight.
With the komodo dragon mostly staying on its four feet only being a third of Robus’ height, it was hard for the gorilla to land punches toward the creature and he relied more on his legs to try and kick the creature’s head and body.
But that also pose a problem on its own since the komodo dragon’s tail swipe was nothing to scoff at and it could sweep Robus off of his feet and make him fall down, which would also expose him to a lot of danger if the creature ever used its bloodline power and Robus wasn’t capable of dodging.
The fight didn’t seem to be going anywhere with the two creatures being cautious of each other until finally, one of them made a mistake.
Robus was going to kick the side of the komodo dragon’s body after he repositioned himself once more, but he saw that the creature’s leg was already flexed as if it had readied itself to jerk its body and was preparing to do a tail swipe.
So Robus quickly changed his real kick into a feint at the very last moment.
However, with Robus’ initial plan on really kicking the komodo dragon’s body, the creature didn’t think that Robus would do a feint at the last moment and it continued doing its tail swipe, aiming toward Robus’ hind leg that the gorilla used as a pivot.
But the komodo dragon soon found out that its attack was in fain, and in fact, had put itself into a precarious position as Robus had actually jumped up and dodged its tail swipe while the komodo dragon now had its back against Robus due to its tail that was aimed toward’ Robus.
The komodo dragon was strong and hard to deal with, but if Robus were able to get on its back, then the komodo dragon would essentially be powerless since it didn’t have any limbs to reach out to its back because of its short and bulky legs that were designed to not able to reach its back.
Realizing its predicament, the komodo dragon quickly went into its last resort and activated its bloodline power.
There weren’t any visible glowing runes on the komodo dragon’s body at first, but after it raised its head and faced toward Robus who was still falling from his jump, the glowing runes under its neck had finally been revealed.
The komodo dragon’s reflex was undoubtedly fast, and its instinct to activate its bloodline power as fast as possible was also the correct decision.
However, the komodo dragon was quite unfortunate that the bloodline power needed some time to be completely activated, and that some time was more than enough time for Robus to land on the creature’s back and quickly grabbed the creature’s head and jerked it sideways to redirect the direction of where the creature would launch its bloodline power.
Robus seemed to have the right timing as the moment the komodo dragon’s head was facing the other way, the komodo dragon had already opened up its mouth and launched something out of it.
Although it happened in a blink of an eye, the thing that was launched from the creature’s mouth didn’t fly out and travel at an incredible speed and Blake was able to see what it was.
Dark purple, viscous liquid, very similar to a goo came out of the komodo dragon’s mouth and traveled to the place where Robus had directed the komodo dragon’s head to.
Since it didn’t have much power when it was launched, the purple goo wasn’t able to travel far and hit the empty ground about ten meters away from its current location.
However, despite the lackluster strength, Blake had his eyes locked on the dark purple goo.
It was the fact that the ground that was hit by the purple goo had literally started melting as the purple goo buried itself deep into the ground.
“So that’s what happened to his armor...” Blake muttered as he saw the sunken ground.
