Chapter 41: Figuring It Out

(Almost) 15 years later..

Jay was excited as today was the day the new generation would finally begin to be able to see their status'. 15 years was the average to maturity even for the lowest of age ranges. For humans the maturity was gained around 18 to 19 so that was usually when they gained their status screen.

Jay watched as some of the people began to finally experience the wondrous thing called a "system". Jay was hopeful that this was the beginning to something much larger and grander, though what it was he couldn't quite tell yet. When he was creating the unified energy system, he was trying to figure out a way for everyone on his planet to have their own private systems. Like one person could have the "fire god" system and another could have "storm queen enchantress" system. But the system has some safeguard with what he had initially attempted so it ended up in failure.

He believed that he could only give them what he called a pseudo-pseudo-system. Which was basically just the status screen that they, as gods, can naturally already use. The system was something only Jay could see for a while and he had made a way for his family to have one as well. As for the mortals, they had a much more watered down version, since the system simply safeguarded itself too well. Jay would have to do more digging to see if he could pry any more leverage out of it.

The screen of information, first and foremost, was an ultimate test of truth within the world of the strong. Someone can claim they have a special skill. An easy way to solve the argument without resorting to violence is simply sharing a status screen, which all mortals who are born now will inherently know how to do, once that conversation comes up.

Jay smiled as he watched the min-chaos all over the globe. Yes, he gave the sentients many gifts with the new powers, bloodlines, and all of the other things. But there are many hidden secrets that require very specific actions to reveal, but can actually boost your own power quite heavily if used "correctly".

Jay smirked as thought to himself,"I will give my sentients nearly impossible challenges so that they can always see the peak, and I will leave breadcrumbs of rewards along the way, so that the sentients eventually realize that they are purposefully being asked by the Ultima to raise their strength! The only thing that I ended up being able to put in, ended working out so heavily once I realized its usefulness! I can't look down on the little things any longer!"

Jay then thought,"The System wouldn't allow me to give the mortals anything directly, so I made certain tasks repeatable every year or so, and the hidden godly magic within these system functions guarantees at least 5x return! The mortals won't know this term, but they can think of these "system secrets" as my little easter eggs!"

Right as he thought this, the picosecond light enveloped the room and earth once more! This time, once again, Jay noticed it. However unlike last time, he felt the weight of what he just thought, changed the planet in some way.

Jay gasped and whispered,"This..."

Jay quickly checked the conditions of the planet and what exactly the light changed. As he searched he noticed that not much had changed and he really couldn't find anything too odd. Then as he continued searching, after about 3 hours, he found it.

Jay frowned as he viewed the stats. He then said aloud,"System, Bring phineas here immediately."

Soon, within a minute, Phineas came back up to the godly viewing room. Jay quickly had Phineas follow him into his room, then into a separate area that simply had a desk and a few chairs. Phineas sat in one of the chairs and Jay sat behind the desk.

Jay pressed a button underneath the desk and a blue shield like bubble formed around the pair.

[System Connection Lost]

Both of them got the notification.

Phineas nervously asked,"Father? Did I do something wrong?"

Jay looked at him and smiled, reassuringly saying,"No, no son. You are doing a splendid job, I have seen the effort you are trying to cultivate with trying to get people to farm, it's been solid so far. No, I need you here because I need a question answered, and I don't want the system to know."

Phineas gulped but then nodded and replied,"Ok. Ask me the question father."

Jay then started with,"Recently, I have noticed that for less than half a second the planet was bathed in a golden light, and for a millisecond the planet vibrated. Do you know anything there?"

Phineas nodded and said confidently,"Yes! Father that was the [World Spirit]. A world spirit exists within every planet, magical or not. The spirit is simply a collection of the inhabitants' wills and their desire to survive. The vibration was kind of like a celebration, the golden light might have been an additional blessing bestowed by the spirit, possibly as a thank you."

Jay nodded as that confirmed one of his theories. Next he asked,"Ok, now the real question, I have noticed that when I say or think certain things, it has a mental effect on every sentient under my rule, intentional or not. So, I need to know, is this a fluke, or do my daily thoughts and actions truly affect how my children behave?"

Phineas gasped and couldn't process half of the words Jay had just told him. Finally after repeating his story and question, Phineas finally understood.

Phineas cursed, for the first time ever, with,"Holy Shit.."

Jay frowned and said,"Watch your language. Now what is the matter?"

Phineas replied,"Father, you have an extremely, and I truly do mean extremely rare, innate ability. That's the cause. The ability is usually reserved for level 8 and 9 gods. It's called [Ultima's Voice]."
