Chapter 120
120 Chapter 120: Tiger level mutant beast?
Alex waited for over 30 minutes for the little beast to calm down and during that time he felt a strong headache and an extreme level of pain in his eyes. He could have sworn they were bloodshot by now.
Ding!
Ding!
The small phone rang and it was Tracy. Although Alex was reluctant he still picked up the call.
“Talk to me” he said casually as he walked with the strange cat in his hands.
“I have seen so many variants of mutant cat breeds but none has been able to maintain their normal form... that thing is not on the mutant beast database... Are you sure it’s really a mutant beast? Are you sure it stopped the beasts from reaching your tent?” Tracy had a lot of doubt in her tone.
Alex was tempted to tell her about what happened today but speaking to her over the phone is risky so he decided to ignore it and move on.
They chatted a little and said their goodbyes, meanwhile Alex was still five minutes away from home. He had come so far due to this cat and still didn’t get anything out of it. Why won’t he feel a bit grumpy?
As Alex advanced he noticed something strange. There were no plants or green moss around the area unlike how it was in the morning. If Blaze is responsible for this, then there would be signs of fire being used to remove them but there weren’t any.
.....
His eyes narrowed as he perceived a threat lying around somewhere but he kept moving. In his opinion, with his strength, no wolf threat level beasts should be able to scare him.
Alex walked forward boldly and just when he was two minutes away from their base and he could even see the bank building from a distance a sound could be heard from behind.
Katcha!
It was like a piece of rock getting broken out of a boulder. Only something huge and strong can do that. But how can something that big sneak around him and hide its presence almost perfectly?
What is its goal?
Only then did Alex frown. He looked towards the bank building again and noticed there was no campfire today so he sighed in relief. Whatever is following him must be there, hoping he would lead it to the other humans.
For a beast to hide its killing intent from him and act that way it must have an immense amount of intelligence, at least on par with humans and this is not something a wolf-tier mutant beast can do.
“Thankfully I left with the flare gun” Alex said calmly as he raised the loaded it with the red bullet and shot it into the sky.
From the large hole made in the wall, Mr white and the rest were eating and speaking quietly. They weren’t as noisy as they were last night, especially after their actions attracted mutant beasts.
They were all waiting for Alex who was meant to be back hours ago and some even considered the possibility of him getting killed. But just based on the kind of strength Alex has, there is no way he would be killed without causing a commotion. So they just believed he just decided to stay out longer.
Bang!
The loud sound carrying the red paint shooting into the sky caught their eyes. They were filled with shock and horror as they gazed at the paint, thinking they were dreaming.
Before coming here, everyone was given a flare gun with three paint bullets.
Green meant the mission is complete and the area is ripe for military take over!
Yellow was meant to be used a week after deployment to show that there is still work in progress and they needed more time to complete the mission.
Meanwhile, Red is a clear indication of danger! A Tiger threat mutant beast can be found at the location and the help of an instructor is urgently needed.
Seeing the red flare meant that Alex has come across a tiger threat level mutant beast. They turned pale, unsure of what to do!
“We need to leave this place!” Mr. White said decisively.
“What about Alex” Blaze said coldly.
“Do you think he shot the flare to alert the instructors? He is obviously telling us to run!” Mr. White said with a frown.
“Even if we go there, we will only die with him or slow him down... you saw his strength... none of us can help him... so I think it’s best we leave... for both his sake and ours” Kung Jun who has been silent for a while spoke up.
Meanwhile,
Alex sighed while causing his bad luck. The cat in his hands was gazing into the darkness behind with a fierce look on its face. Even the little beast could detect the presence of the creature.
Alex felt like a massive pair of eyes was pinned on his back, waiting for him to make a strange move before attacking. He felt like the cold blade of the Grim Reapers scythe was at his throat and just a little movement would be needed to end him.
He too knew that the red Flare was nothing. Even if the supervisors are B-rated, it is rare to see a B-rated guardian or hunter capable of soloing a tiger threat beast. In fact, the moment you notice its presence that means the beast has noticed yours. Before the B-rated hunter comes over, it’s only natural the team of students should be wiped out already.
The flare guns were just given to students to make them feel safe but those who could think properly knew it was worthless. Just as Mr. White said, he didn’t use the flare to alert the supervisors. He used it to inform his team that they have to run.
He pulled the cat off his shoulder and dropped it to the ground and crouched.
“I guess fate isn’t on your side little guy... you are about to lose another master...” Alex said calmly meanwhile he called Tracy with the cell phone.
In her room, Tracy saw the call and was confused, why would Alex call him twice in a roll, even after they said goodbye already.
“Did he miss me already?” she said with a na?ve smile as she picked the call.
“Babe”
Immediately she heard that her heart jumped. The Alex she knows doesn’t use such words. He doesn’t even call her by her name, he just speaks to her. She instantly knew something is wrong.
“I guess I ran into a tiger threat beast now... it’s following me and the end is around the corner... I would have loved to keep this from you but I guess I felt you should know I probably went down fighting and looking good too” Alex laughed strangely.
“I love you dear” Alex said and cut the call, not giving her a chance to speak. He didn’t want to get emotional here and disrupt his rhythm.
