Chapter 353: (EDT) Rescue (1)
With two more days left before the second Assailant-Class Patrol Ship to be complete, Zhang Qin Feng was unwilling to let his time go to waste. During this time, he frequented a few locations, such as the nearby abandoned island, to check on the soil condition and the terrain build.
Zhang Qin Feng noticed that most of the soil around this area was densely mixed with other materials, such as polymer, silicon, and grains from crystallized sand. This means the island and earth around this area were all manmade.
While he's still clueless about why the pre-apocalypse people would do something like this, Zhang Qin Feng understands one of their motives behind this. Based on how densely populated this surrounding area was, the people from the pre-apocalypse are likely trying to create a continent here.
And these mixtures for the soil and earth of an island likely come from their space venture.
By putting the information in Stein's database along with Shelter No: 213's record, the likelihood that these materials were what was left from refining the ores they mined from the space is entirely possible.
What Zhang Qin Feng lacks now was their intention for gathering all these materials around the shelter. With a limited number of data to work with, Zhang Qin Feng could only take this slowly.
Zhang Qin Feng purposely assigned a few individuals to keep track of all the area's activities to ensure he didn't miss something while away.
When the second Assailant-Class Patrol Ship was finally completed, Zhang Qin Feng immediately ordered his people to get the vessel ready for departure. It seems that Hoya managed to get five additional helpers from Shelter No: 213 to help in this rescue mission.
Leading a ship with close to forty crews, Zhang Qin Feng immediately departed from the Vermilion Empress northbound.
This time, their travel time is significantly shorter than before. An additional propeller unit is added to make this vessel travel 30% faster than it originally was. It could dramatically cut the travel time from five days to about three and a half if the ship runs at its optimal speed.
But by the time Zhang Qin Feng and his crew of forty men arrived at this continent, he was shocked to see what had happened to the portside he secured before leaving.
Nothing on this port resembles the previously abandoned establishment with shipyards, warehouses, and repairing hangers. The port is now replaced with a rock forest with Tyrants lingering around, accompanied by their earth-shattering roars.
Except for some remains of the construction that still can be noticed around the water level, nothing else was left intact over here.
It was pointless to reclaim this location now since it has lost the reason for its existence.
*Bzzt…*
"This is Assailant-Class 001. Is that you, boss?" the communication channel used commonly by the Wind Base quickly made their way to Zhang Qin Feng's ship. Because the reading signature was identical to their own, they could easily guess the identity of this vessel.
"It's me speaking." Zhang Qin Feng answered.
"Get me updated. What happened?" Zhang Qin Feng immediately asked for a quick briefing about what happened a little earlier.
"The safe zone had already become like this on our arrival. But the good news is, we detected eight readings in the underground. It was supposed to be nine when we just arrived, but it seems the signal was lost not too long after that."
"We've tried to see if we can make a landing on the rock forest, but that's not going to happen with so many Tyrants wandering around that area. For now, our best bet would be getting onshore from this place we're currently at." the 001's captain reported everything he knew to Zhang Qin Feng.
"You means… It's already like this on your arrival?" Zhang Qin Feng repeated his question. All his attention was focused on the rock forest with Tyrants wandering all over. It seems that the boulders, trees, and concrete slabs weren't the Tyrant's only weapon of choice.
Even broken vehicles can be seen around the water level, undecided if they would sink into the water or keep floating.
"Yes, Boss. We approached the port twice, and we were attacked fiercely by the Tyrants on both times." the captain immediately replied.
"What's your suggestion then? Where is 001's current location?" Zhang Qin Feng continued.
"Fifty-six kilometers to the west of the port. We've found a beach that can be accessed by fast boats and is currently in the middle of securing the area." the captain immediately answered Zhang Qin Feng's question.
"Good. Maintain your position. 002 will join you in a while. In the meantime, continue with what you're doing and get the soldiers to suit up. I will resume controlling the moment both ships come together." Zhang Qin Feng said before putting down the call.
"Helmsman. Fifty-six kilometers westbound, follow the coast until we get 001's reading on your radar. Zhang Qin Feng gave his order to sail towards his 9 o'clock direction.
In less than half an hour, the two ships finally came together and linked via the hydraulic connection arm that comes in the design. When needed, a total of five Assailant-Class Patrol Ships can be connected together in response to threat.
"This is the boss. Attention to all soldiers. Meeting in 002's mission room in five minutes. Come with full equipment." Zhang Qin Feng immediately ordered to regroup as he waited for them inside the room he mentioned.
And like all of them, Zhang Qin Feng was fully equipped and ready to participate in this rescue battle as well. In these two days of waiting for the second Assailant-Class Patrol Ship to get prepared, Victor didn't stay idle at all.
Using the technology and help from Shelter No: 213's technicians, he produced ten sets of equipment for Zhang Qin Feng and his men. Although ten sets were nothing much to discuss, having them in hand is much better than not having anything at all.
Not only could the equipment promise a certain degree of protection, but it could also drastically increase their survivability.
"Has everyone gathered in this room?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
