Chapter 2812 True Extent
A pair of dark, golden eyes shone with a starry light. Those beautiful pupils seemed to be made from the most precious gems that Davis had ever seen but were something common among the Dynastic Evernight Phantasm Spirits.
Two hands were placed on the bed as she propped herself, continuing to gaze at Davis while he did the same.
Long black hair flowed down to her waist, and some strands even lay freely on her shoulders, accentuating her purple robe. She possessed pale-gray skin like an undead, making her appear sickly pale to anyone who might glance at her.
"Thank goodness."
After a few seconds, a short sigh emerged from Nightveil's mouth as though she was deeply relieved that she didn't die.
However, Davis couldn't help but smile as he opened his mouth.
"For surviving?"
"Yes."
Nightveil's lips curled, "Mo Tian… I see. I'll continue to call you that, Wicked Spirit Hunter."
Davis's shoulders shook as she silently chuckled, shaking his head as he turned around, "You owe me yet again."
"I know. Although I don't know what kind of method you used as I could only feel your aura, I know this move of yours put yourself at extreme risk… making me suspect that I can never repay it..."
Nightveil's head lowered. What she was thinking was unknown, causing Davis to turn around again.
"Well, if it isn't for you, I might've considered doing it to further my ambitions. I'm just glad that you didn't die an unreasonable death, Nightveil. For what it's worth, I'll accept a few Dynastic Evernight Phantasm Spirit Cores."
"How many?"
"As many as you can, preferably at Immortal King Grade."
"I guess I'll have to resort to stealing from my own tribe then..."
Nightveil wryly smiled, causing Davis to chuckle as he could tell that she was cracking a joke. However, he imagined that the difficulty of obtaining these Spirit Cores would truly have to be huge. Otherwise, he knew that she wouldn't be making a face like that.
"That's a stupid move, even if you're really looking to gain through contributing to your power when you're currently in the Aurora Cloud Gate."
Abruptly, a black-robed woman appeared beside them from thin air, causing Nightveil to be startled.
Davis turned to look at Mingzhi, wondering why she jumped out of the life ring as he didn't particularly enforce a closure on them, just so he could tell Vereina that she was free to do as she pleased but would have to reap the consequences for it.
"Instead, I propose another way for you to repay the debt."
Nightveil was partly stunned that she didn't know what to say for a few moments. Could it be that he brought some of his women with him?
"Yes?"
She subconsciously asked, knowing that what Davis did for her was way more dangerous than she calculated.
Mingzhi's lips curled. She gracefully stretched her arm before pointing at herself, "Form a spirit pact with me, Nightveil. I need your power."
"…!"
Both Davis and Nightveil were stunned by Mingzhi's words. However, before they could say anything, she raised both her hands, displaying her palm upwards.
A ball of darkness manifested one on hand and space distorted on the other.
Mingzhi manifested these two different energies so seamlessly that it caused the both of them to fall into a trance before their eyes shot wide as they suddenly saw her bringing her hands together.
An icy cold wind blew past their faces as the ball of dark light rolled between them, causing them to involuntarily squint their eyes in shock. As soon as the sphere of darkness mixed with the distorting swirl of space, it abruptly caused an opposite force that began sucking the air, the heaven, and earth energy around them towards her.
What pushed their hair and clothes away began to be pulled into a swirling vortex of darkness, causing Davis to be shocked.
*Phaa!~*
The swirling vortex of darkness suddenly collapsed, causing a shockwave to spread as it caused their clothes and hair to flutter again, leaving them speechless.
"Mingzhi, you…"
Davis's mouth was slightly agape as he looked at her prideful expression.
"As you can see, I am only a little bit away from comprehending Devouring Laws. To further my goals, I need the Dynastic Evernight Phantasm Spirit's darkness powers that are way suited to encapsulate the land and the skies in a state of evernight. Darkness is the absence of light, and due to that, darkness needs to corrupt light in order to manifest in the presence of light."
"However, your race's darkness energy isn't one that corrupts but devours light, doesn't it?"
Mingzhi leaned slightly and teasingly smiled at Nightveil, causing the latter to blink before she heaved a heavy breath.
"Accurately, it seals light and devours it, but that's pretty much the Dynastic Evernight Phantasm Spirit's darkness energy..."
Nightveil looked away as she smiled. A faint sense of defeat couldn't help but swirl in her heart, knowing that she was even weaker than this woman before her, who was supposed to have been nothing but a mortal when she ascended.
However, not only was Mingzhi's cultivation base higher than hers, but her prowess was also immeasurable, causing Nightveil to take a deep breath as she turned to look at Mingzhi, her golden eyes gleaming with starry light.
"You have a delicious aura stemming from your soul, so I suppose I am not opposed to accepting your offer."
"Hehe, that's a done deal then~"
"Not quite yet. I don't know what your man thinks about it, as forming a spirit pact isn't something that can be decided between two parties when another person is involved."
"…"
Davis became taken aback at them continuing the conversation without him.
Mingzhi appeared beside him and lightly elbowed his waist, "What are you looking at? Convince her to form a soul pact with me."
'You just want Nightveil because she looks like a cool and sexy undead…!'
Davis almost pointed at Mingzhi.
"Come on. You handed over Zephya to Fiora, so why do I not get my own spirit?"
Just before he was about to talk, Mingzhi nudged him again, instantly squashing whatever reason he had in mind to reject her.
Davis was at a loss, looking at both their expressions, one calm and steady while the other grinning like she had him in the palm of her hands.
'This vixen… she's doing this on purpose...'
It wasn't even a few seconds before Davis heaved a sigh, knowing that he couldn't refuse Mingzhi's request.
========
"Ah, Apothecary Mo Tian. Please come inside."
"Apothecary Mo Tian, thank you for saving my life~"
"Apothecary…"
As Davis entered the Zyrus Family's palace, he instantly began receiving praise from all directions. Men and women from all races and cultivation bases swarmed to meet him, some people he treated giving him their utmost gratitude as they deeply bowed to him.
It left him a bit speechless again, but his expression was as though it was normal, arrogantly walking past them without paying heed to any of them.
"Look, Apothecary Mo Tian doesn't want anything in return. I can't believe he is humble and kind at heart..."
"I thought the same thing."
"This is bad… he could make a good husband, making me truly interested..."
A few ladies who were nearby him couldn't help but giggle as they talked a bit loudly as though wanting to attract his attention.
'What the hell…?'
However, similar statements resounded from other people, even men, causing Davis to swear that he acted as blatantly arrogant as he possibly could, yet how come it portrayed him to be as humble, and kind was beyond him.
Nonetheless, he couldn't but still reel in disbelief over Mingzhi's comprehension ability.
It was totally unexpected for him that she would try to combine Space Laws and Darkness Laws and even have initial success in it, only seeming to lack an impetus to learn its prime intent.
Was she actually spurred by Fiora surpassing her in every way possible, causing her to become frantic about it that she tried to do something but ended up discovering a Fusion Law like Devouring Laws in the process?
This made him believe having rivalry and competition in their relationship as sisters were good, but at the same time, he felt like he neglected Mingzhi a lot, as fusion wasn't a joke. One wrong move, and she could've blown up like him or, in her case, absorbed into eternal darkness.
He wanted to scold her, but witnessing her initial success, he had no complaints to offer and was, instead, thoroughly impressed, even prideful.
'That vixen… she fooled me into thinking that she only had great success in comprehending Space Laws...'
Davis smilingly shook his head, heading towards the center of the inner hall.
As soon as he became visible among the sea of people that was more than yesterday, he was greeted by a lot of powers, but as usual, he arrogantly walked toward the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan and sat beside the Starlight Jade Wolf King. However, he saw that the Starlight Jade Wolf King's gaze was not on him but on the stage.
Turning to look, he saw that the third segment was about to start, and the format was already decided.
However, Davis became stunned as he looked at the projection that suddenly enlarged above the stage.
'What the… is that my funeral being broadcasted live!?'
