Chapter 162 Return
Chapter 162 Return
?
Since things happened like that, it couldn't be helped that they sent three lower-ranked teenagers to help. Still, while they showed their worth, the government couldn't maintain them in a warzone for long periods of time. They had other soldiers that could do that, and in the higher-ups' eyes, they were easier to control than teens.
"The mission is finally over, huh," Ian said after they finished their breakfast three days after they returned from the dungeon. "Don't do anything stupid like this again without consulting us. I can't use my contacts all the time to clean your mess."
"For a short while, I felt that I should thank you, but the whole feeling disappeared already… I wonder why?' Emily tilted her head.
"You don't have to try to look cute and smart in front of me. Only Ethan would fall for that," Ian shrugged. "I told you, my heart belongs to Miss Lyla."
A vein began to bulge in Emily's forehead. She still had to grow a bit in order to become resistant to Ian's nonsense. In the meantime, they were wasting their time. Ethan was finishing his banana milkshake. It was pretty cold and sweet, and he liked that since he didn't like the tropical weather that much… he liked the food that he found in Ghana, though. In the last three days, Ethan ate and approved waakye, jolloof rice, tuo zaafi, red red… all in all, he liked his food with a lot of meat.
"Watching you eating so much meat makes me feel full…" Emily furrowed her eyebrows. "Anyway, I thank you two for coming to help me… don't say anything stupid that will make me regret saying this."
"All right, all right… I will let things stay serious for a while," Ian shrugged.
Once they finished their meal, they waited in the area for a while, and then Emily's father showed up with his luggage, and he was escorted by Alvin and Isaac. Although those two siblings didn't like each other a lot, at least they could put their differences asides in moments like this.
"I am ready. Sorry for the delay," Emily's father said.
"Once again, I am thankful for your guys' assistance… I don't know why your people decided to call you rank E heroes, but I can say for certain that you all are something else, and I don't remember the last time I felt so much pride in fighting alongside other people," Alvin said, and then he offered everyone a handshake.
Ethan sighed, and he wondered what he should do… denying the handshake without explaining would be rude, so he warned Alvin, and he insisted on it. Still, he began to sweat cold when he felt his mana being drained for a short while.
You received 70.000 experience points.
"... It seems that you carry a burden that I didn't notice it," Alvin said, and then he checked his hand that fell asleep for a moment.
"It is a burden, but it is also a powerful weapon," Ethan said.
Isaac did the same and realized what Ethan was talking about. Those two wondered why he didn't tell them to stay quiet about it… it was hard to think that he trusted them that much. Regardless, Isaac had some small boxes on his waist, and then he passed them to Ethan, Emily, and Ian.
"Some gifts, I think that they will be useful to you. Consider them a token of gratitude," Isaac said. "Since you are all good friends, I am sure that they will come in handy.
Those three opened the boxes, and then they found some blue amulets in them. When Ethan checked their parameters, he frowned… they were telepathy amulets. While they weren't like communication devices that could be tracked, the users could talk with each other no matter what.
"Oh, this is perfect!" Ian said while smiling. "It would be perfect if we could engrave something on the back like best friends forever."
"So… I am speechless," Emily said and then sighed. "I am thankful for the gifts, but I can't say that I will use them all the time. Ian will drive me mad if I do so."
"Me too… they might be useful in the future, though," Ethan said, and then he closed the box and put it on his shoulder. "Until another time… we are ready, Hannah."
Isaac and Alvin saluted, and then those three hesitantly did the same before they were teleported away toward the diplomatic office where Hannah worked, and they found her in front of the entrance of the room. John was there as well.
"We salute you for a job well done, youngsters," John said while he was carrying everyone's real wristwatches. "I will be taking those back."
"Mister John, I humbly apologize for the problems that I have caused to you and your team. I won't make any excuses," Emily's father said and then bowed deeply.
"No need to apologize. You only did your job and saved many lives. As for your daughter… while her actions go against the contract that she signed, she did a lot for another country and ours," John declared. "This incident will end with her only receiving a punishment in the name, and the higher-ups are fine with that."
Emily bowed as well. She didn't have much to say in that situation, and she felt like she would receive a worse punishment for that, so staying silent was her best option to make things end well.
"It is still early, so rest properly because tomorrow you will have school early in the morning… your instructors were informed of what happened, so they probably will want to increase your rank after a simple test," Hannah said. "By the way, explain things thoroughly to Mom and Dad and to Nuvian if he is there. I will only return a few days later."
Ethan nodded and then sighed… the last thing he wanted was to be treated like an errand boy, but he owed his sister that much.
Since it was Sunday, Ethan found his mother and father and also Nuvian at home. They were all waiting for Ethan and Hannah to return. They were happy for Ethan but a bit disappointed that Hannah wasn't with them. Regardless, he explained to them what he could about what he happened.
"Since I am close with John as well, I heard a few things, but… it seems that Earth is close to becoming the center of something big," Nubian said while stroking his chin. "I will try to keep my people ready to move in case something like this happen again… I have the feeling that whatever happens here will affect many worlds. I wish that I could talk with you more, but I will have to take my leave, Ethan."
"No problem, until the next time," Ethan said and waved his hand when Nuvian disappeared.
"By the way, Ethan, something arrived for you two days ago," Evelyn said and then grabbed a box behind the couch. "A guy that looked pretty suspicious said that it was for you. He was wearing sunglasses and a suit… he showed a document in that he said that he worked for the government, and Hannah confirmed it. He didn't say anything else, though."
Ethan frowned and then went to check the box, and then he found an amulet. He was seeing a lot of these lately. Still, then he identified and confirmed that it was the giantification amulet that Dante mentioned. The item could make the wearer get up to ten times bigger, but the parameters would increase according to the mana stored. All parameters would increase by one point for every ten thousand points of mana. It felt like it was lacking a bit since it could only last for one hour.
"This is something that I traded with someone," Ethan explained. "No need to worry."
"Son, you should truly rest for the day… you had to endure a lot in the last few days," Michael said. "I wished that I had some time to play some FIFA with you, but I have some things to solve. I also think that sleeping peacefully for the rest of the day will help you more."
"No need to say it twice… I truly need to rest since Ian's voice hurts my head more than if it were hit by a giant bell," Ethan said while forcing a smile.
Ethan headed to his room and then jumped on the bed, and then stared at the ceiling for a while. Although he needed to relax, he didn't feel the need to sleep that much. He relaxed a lot in the last three days in Ghana. Ethan wondered how long that peace would last… only a couple of weeks had passed since he returned, and things were getting really intense… way more than he had imagined. He also felt like he had thought the same thing several times already.
