"Hyoudou."
"Hyoudou Jin."
"Ah!"
The three people had different reactions from each other. Kiba and Xenovia looked surprised as they turned to Jin, then turned to each other again because they called the same name at the same time. In contrast, Irina looked relieved that Jin had arrived.
Maybe the twin-tailed girl didn't want this to escalate into a fight. But both parties didn't seem to care about that and unsheathed their swords to fight.
"Xenovia, sheath your sword back. Kiba, you too." Jin warned both of them with a serious tone. "Don't say I didn't warn you a few times already."
Kiba looked at Jin, still with hatred in his eyes. The blonde boy was looking in his direction as if he was a traitor.
"Buchou won't like this."
"I have told Sona already." Jin shot down Kiba's words. "Xenovia and Irina are here for a diplomatic reason. Do you want the war to continue again because of your small scuffle, Kiba? I don't know what happened to you, but think of your position as Rias' Knight."
"The same goes for you, Xenovia. Remember your mission. Is it to fight the Devil or to retrieve the lost items?" He turned to Xenovia and added.
Both sides fell silent. The first one to sheath their sword was Xenovia. She bandaged the Excalibur Destruction again and slung it on her back.
Kiba followed suit afterward, still glaring at Xenovia. Jin noticed Rias' Knight's gaze was focused on the sword rather than Xenovia herself. It was like he had an enmity with Excalibur if he said so himself.
'This will become trouble, no?' Jin guessed in his mind. There was no way it wouldn't escalate to bigger trouble. The hatred Kiba had was unusual.
"Fine," Kiba muttered, turning to Jin. "Hahaha, how laughable. I never thought I would see that sword again. Don't ever show that up in front of me again. How sickening."
Leaving behind words that didn't fit the Prince's personality, he walked away quietly. Jin followed his trail and still noticed the hidden anger bubbling inside the boy. Having Senjutsu made him sensitive to emotions.
He would need to dig it a bit further so it wouldn't cause a variable in his plan. Rias must've known something about it, and they would return tomorrow. It couldn't be any better.
"Jin! Thanks for stopping them!" Irina ran toward him with open arms, shouting happily. "I don't know what I will do if they begin to fight seriously before we warn the Devils not to get in the way of our mission!"
Jin looked at Irina, smiling bitterly. It seemed like he had another problem to fix before asking Rias. His childhood friend seemed to be bad in the head area. He just prevented war between the Church and the Devil, but she made a statement that could induce a war.
"Irina. Leave the talk with the Devils to me, okay?" He said, looking at Irina. Xenovia walked toward them from the corner of his eyes. "The way you phrase it will make your mission more difficult."
"What's wrong with it? Devils are bad, and they won't understand if we don't warn them sternly." She countered, which made Jin question his decision to help them.
Wasn't it better if he just found Kokabiel himself? Maybe with the help of Kalawarner and Kuroka, he would be able to handle this without any problem. Unless inviting Kuroka to Kuoh Town was a problem itself.
"Just believe me, okay? They will understand if I am the one who talks to them. The situation isn't good right now, so how about we end the search early and return to my house?"
"We can still continue, Hyoudou Jin. We have no time to rest, or the Excalibur Fragments will be used for evil." Xenovia chimed in from the side with a serious expression. "Also, I didn't really like your interference earlier. I can beat him just fine."
"That's not the problem. He's Rias Gremory's Knight, not some stray Devil. If you fight him and she finds out about it, the situation will become troublesome for both sides, considering your position now is the Church's emissary. Ask him for a spar tomorrow if you want to fight him."
Not that it will turn out to be a good idea, Jin added as he let out a sigh. Dealing with the girls from the church gave him more headaches than dealing with Rias. They were too loyal to their religion and seemed to hate the Devils.
No, maybe hate was too much.
'They discriminate against the Devils and think they are lower species or something like that. I can only describe hate as something similar to what Kiba felt earlier.'
Maybe because they grew up in the church, they got fed by many prejudices. Maybe their side of the story had the truth on it as their point of view told it, but Jin always wanted to find stories from both sides.
That was why he chose to be a free agent even if he got involved in the Supernatural World and was at a disadvantage without joining a Faction. He didn't want to be tied to one side and got fed by many twisted stories. He only wanted to enjoy his life and drank his cow's milk.
"So let me handle the relationship between you and the Devils, okay? I will do my best, so it won't create another problem. I will also talk to Kiba about what happened earlier. It seems that he is familiar with Excalibur fragments one way or another."
The girls stayed silent before looking at each other, nodding their heads.
"Alright, Jin." Irina looked at him with a smile. "I will do what you say then. Hahaha, if our visit to Kuoh Town becomes a problem, then we will also be scolded by Sister Griselda."
Once Irina said the last words, Jin noticed Xenovia's body jolted as if a bolt of lightning had hit her. He took note of the name, Sister Griselda. That person might have a high position in the church if she could even scold two Holy Swords wielders and make one of them fear her.
"Then it's settled," Jin said with a smile, trying to hide his calculative nature. "As I said earlier, let's rest for today, so we can meet the Devils in top shape tomorrow."
