Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 385

Chapter 385: Encounter

The third day in the Wilderness Highlands.

During these three days, Allen's team continued to dive deeper into the highlands covered by the primeval forest. At first, everyone was shocked by the vastness and vicissitudes of the Highland Forest. However, as the journey continued, what they saw every day was almost the same scene. Gauss, moss, cliffs, cracks, and the muggy air. Even Regis, who was the most active, became silent three days later.

Occasionally, one or two hazardous species would pop out of the forest and become a rare remedy on a dull journey. Often, they would become the targets of Regis' swordsmanship, or they would be killed by Belmond, who was exploring the way, until they would become a local barbecue and fall into everyone's stomachs.

Edward's misgivings of the day came true, as years passed, although the map from the Box of Fraud barely showed that the base was in the Wilderness Highlands. However, after so long, the landscape had changed. Many of the iconic locations marked on maps are now hard to find. The troop walked around the forest for three days, but in reality, they were only walking less than half the distance according to the map.

On the fifth day, even Allen doubted that he would be able to find the base smoothly. He planned to look for a few more days. If he really couldn't find it, he could only return to Storm City.

At noon on this day, everyone emerged from the jungle. The scenery in front of them suddenly became clear. Standing in their field of vision was a tranquil lake, the size of a football field. The afternoon sun shone on the jade-green lake. The calm surface of the lake was like an emerald with hidden golden threads. Scattered green algae floated on the surface of the lake, and some curved tree trunks could be seen near the shore, forming arch bridges on the surface of the lake. Some fish with silver scales all over their bodies passed through the lower reaches of the tree bridge, forming schools of fish that leisurely stopped or swam on the surface of the lake.

On the other side of the lake was the foot of a mountain. The steep cliff was tens of meters tall, forming a fault-like landform.

This kind of terrain is very common in the Wilderness Highlands. They form a complex barrier landform, making it very difficult to enter and exit the highlands.

Everyone stopped by the lake. Lucy took out the map in distress and compared it. She moaned, "Heavens, this shouldn't be a lake. According to the map, this place is very close to the base. It can even be accessed through some exhaust pipes."

"There's nothing we can do about it. After all, it was many years ago. It's not surprising that the landscape has changed. However, since the map points here, we might as well go down to the lake to take a look after resting for a while." Alan said.

Edward reminded him, "I didn't prepare any diving tools." josei

The Tang brothers glanced at each other and stood up. "We have some knowledge in diving. Even without tools, we can dive ten to twenty meters underwater. If necessary, let's go down and explore," they said.

Alan nodded and said, "This is best. Let's take a rest first. Everyone is tired after walking all morning."

As a result, everyone rested by the lake, and Regis even ran to the lake to fish with his bare hands, as if his childlike innocence had never disappeared. Belmond left the shore and stood guard nearby. He didn't have to keep an eye on the forest like an ordinary sentinel. Belmond found a dense ancient tree and drilled into the canopy. He hid in the tree to catch a cold, and at the same time, he used his ears instead of his eyes to monitor the wind and grass nearby.

Originally, he had thought that other than wild beasts, he would not meet anyone else in the primeval forest. Unexpectedly, not long after he closed his eyes, Belmond heard a strange sound. It was the sound of the grass fluttering regularly, forming a sound that indicated that someone was constantly passing by. He frowned and quietly slid down from the tree crown. He took small steps and silently dived towards the source of the sound.

After arriving at a ball of ferns, Belmond carefully narrowed his eyes to avoid the reflection of his eyes attracting the attention of the other party. Through the gap between the ferns, a few men and women dressed as adventurers could be seen resting on the grass in front of them.

A young man was holding a map and comparing the terrain. Then, he pointed in the direction of the lake where Allen and his group were. "The ruins should be there."

"We're really lucky this time. I didn't expect that mutant to have a map of an ancient ruin on him. I wonder what kind of treasure is waiting for us." Said a fiery-red-haired woman who was dressed in a very revealing manner. The light armor wrapped around his body covered only his chest and waist, revealing large patches of snow-white skin elsewhere. There was a pair of crossed daggers behind the woman's waist. Judging from her attire, this woman should be skilled in speed and explosive fighting style.

"Maybe there isn't any treasure, but there are a lot of monsters." "Remember what we heard in the tavern last time?" Said the fatty, who was sitting beside the woman, his triangular eyes staring at her breasts.

"You mean Bai Xiao?" A man leaning against a tree trunk with his head resting on his hands said. He had a string of fire lightning hanging on his body and a cloth-wrapped firearm placed beside him. It looked like he was a firefighter who was skilled in long-range support.

'"They found the Blood King's Cemetery, and they never came back. But everyone knows where the Blood King's Cemetery is. The ancient cemetery is already occupied by those filthy vampires. Everyone knows how many pairs of people Bai Xiao and the others have. They don't need help. They want to take all the benefits, so they deserve to die." The one who spoke was the last of the group. That was a tall man. He wore a polished plate armor and a dark red two-handed greatsword stabbed into his side. The hilt of the gigantic sword was decorated with a skull. It looked eerie and terrifying.

"With Boss Garner here, even if we go to the Blood King's Cemetery, there's nothing to be afraid of." The man who was looking at the map flattered. Suddenly, he seemed to feel something and quickly turned around. A bolt of lightning shot out of his hand and instantly shot into the fern ball where Belmond was hiding. However, apart from exploding fern leaves, only a few birds were alarmed.

The man called Garner raised his head and said, "What are you doing, Buzz?"

"Nothing. I felt like I was being monitored just now."

"Surveillance?" The woman dressed in hot clothes laughed, "That's too bad. This is the Wilderness Highlands, a place where birds don't shit. Who else is here but us? Don't be stupid."

"You're right, Red Leaf." Buss chuckled dryly, his gaze sweeping across the two peaks, and he couldn't help but swallow his saliva.

Beside the tranquil lake, the atmosphere became a little tense, because Belmond had brought information about other adventurers.

"In other words, their destination is also here?" Alan frowned. "Then it's a bit troublesome. The Wilderness Highlands are not our territory. They probably won't agree to ask them to leave."

"In other words, there's only one way left to fight?" Regis jumped up and smiled as he held the Iron Slashing Sword in his arms.

"Don't get so excited all of a sudden."

"What? How can you not be excited? I'm almost bored to death. It's not like you're going to fight me."

"I don't want to waste my strength on such a thing." Alan raised his saber sheath and said, "Let's wait for them here. Contact them first. If it makes sense, ask them to leave. After that, compensate them with a sum of money. If it doesn't make sense, we can only expel them by force. The base can't be given to anyone else."

Belmond smiled and said, "So, are you just going to lie down or kill someone?"

"This depends on their attitudes."

"You're really kind."

Moments later, the grass swayed, and the first to get out of the forest was Bath, who was leading the way, who trotted all the way to the lake. He said excitedly, "Look, this is it. The entrance to the ancient ruins is under the lake. We are so lucky to be able to find the entrance. The ruins are equivalent to ours."

"Don't be happy too early. This lake looks very deep. Which of you can dive?" The leader of the adventurers, Garner, walked out. He carried a huge sword and frowned at the sexy woman beside him, Red Leaf.

Red Leaf shook his head and said, "Don't look at me. I can't even swim, let alone dive."

"Looks like I'm the only one going."

The fatty's voice made everyone's gazes fall on him. He straightened his chest and said, "What, can't I dive just because I'm fat?"

"That's not what I meant. It's just that Drew, you know how to dive. I'm really surprised." "Then go down and take a look," Garner said.

"Alright." Fatty Drew began to take off his clothes. Just as he took off his coat, a black bolt of lightning suddenly flashed beneath his feet, blocking his path.

It was a black throwing knife. Seeing this throwing knife, the adventurers became alert.

"Wait a moment, please."

Allen and the others appeared from the other side of the lake, and the adventurers' faces immediately became serious when they saw them. Buzz whispered, "Look, I told you we were being watched. Damn it, you actually managed to hide my feelings. That guy who was watching us is very difficult to deal with."

Garner swept his gaze across Allen's side and said in a low voice, "None of them are easy to deal with. Only the twins look slightly weaker. Damn it, how did they bump into each other in this place?"

Apparently, they viewed Ellen as an adventurer.

Alan stopped a dozen meters away from Garner and waved his hand. "First of all, I don't want to cause any meaningless battles, so please restrain yourself." Secondly, you should also be here for some ruins. To you, perhaps the greatest value of the ruins is to unearth priceless treasures. But for us, it means more. "

"That's why I want to discuss with you. If you are willing to take the initiative to retreat, I can pay you a sum of compensation. What do you think?"
