Elias didn’t deliberately ignore Amanda’s call earlier in the day. He had been dealing with Rosie, who was a nuisance, and wanted to sort that out before talking to Amanda. Now, Amanda wasn’t picking up his calls, and he was at a loss about how to make amends when he returned home later. The thought of it was giving him a headache.
Just then, his phone rang, and he thought it might be Amanda, so he quickly answered it. However, it was Taylor on the other end, and Elias couldn’t hide his disappointment.
“What do you want?” Elias asked, his voice filled with helplessness.
“How did you upset my sister today? She looks down as if she’s lost her motivation.”
“That’s what I want to talk to you about. Please take care of your sister from now on. I’ve repeatedly told her that there can be nothing between us. I appreciate what she did when I woke up from the accident, but gratitude isn’t love. I have a wife and children now. Rosie. needs to understand that.” Elias felt like he had repeated these words endlessly, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth, but Rosie seemed unable to comprehend.
“I understand what you’re saying, but I’m afraid my sister doesn’t. You know how she feels. about you. She’s infatuated, and her emotions run deep. Don’t be so harsh, or she might do something foolish,” Taylor said.
“You have to look out for your sister. In any case, I must prioritize caring for my wife and children.” After stating this, Elias ended the call, choosing not to elaborate further.
Desperate, he called Amanda again, but she still ignored his calls. Consequently, he sighed. and prepared to go home after work to address the situation.
After returning to Winters Estate, Amanda lounged on the couch and played with her phone.
Suddenly, her phone rang, and she assumed it was Elias, but it turned out to be Boris calling. “What is it?” she asked.
“Mrs. Winters, Mr. Winters has returned and is looking for you.”
“Okay.” Then, she looked at Aiden and suggested, “How about we play a game with Daddy?”
Her son’s eyes lit up at the idea, and he abandoned his toy, eager to know the game. “Please tell me more, Mommy.”
“How about hide and seek? You lock the door so he can’t find us.”
“What’s the point of that? Mommy, you’re so childish…”
His comment left her momentarily stunned. So, she decided to play her ace card and sweet- talked her son. “If you lock the door, I’ll take you to Universal Studios tomorrow.”
“Wow! Okay!” Aiden eagerly agreed and quickly locked the door.
Amanda smiled and added, “When Daddy knocks on the door later, remember not to open. it. Just tell him you and I don’t want to see him, okay?”
“Okay, but Mommy, did you have a fight with Daddy again?”
“No, we’re just playing a game with him,” she said with a smile.
However, he saw through his mother’s act and muttered, “You guys must have had an argument. Poor Daddy, he’s got to figure out how to make you happy again. Mommy, you’re the toughest nut to crack!”
Amanda was taken aback by her son’s response. She couldn’t help but notice how much he resembled his father, Elias Winters.
After a while, they heard the doorknob turning.
The man outside struggled with the door for a few seconds and said, “Aiden, can you open the door for Daddy? I bought a cake.”
The mention of cake made Aiden’s mouth water.
However, Amanda frowned and reminded her son, “Don’t forget about our trip to Universal Studios. Do you still want to go?”
“Yes.” So, the little guy resisted the temptation of the cake and said to his father, “Mommy and I don’t want to see you!”
She nodded satisfactorily with a faint smile and continued playing with her phone.
Then, the man outside spoke in a low voice. “Who taught you to say that?”
“Mommy! Mommy told me to say that!” Aiden blurted out almost instantly.
Amanda nearly fell off the couch and muttered to herself, This little brat! She quickly rushed. over and covered her son’s mouth, giving Aiden a stern look. “What did you say? How could you say that?”
“But Daddy asked-”
“Shh! Go play with your toys.”
Aiden stuck out his tongue and made a face. “Mommy is so childish. Daddy already knows. He would’ve figured it out even if I said nothing.”
Amanda snorted and leaned against the door, refusing to open it.
At that moment, Elias, standing outside the door, felt helpless. “Amanda, can you please let me explain? Anyway, I bought a cake.”
“Cake? I never mentioned wanting a cake. Besides, what’s there to explain? Hanging up on my call today says it all. You’ll sleep alone tonight because I’ll be with our son in his room.”
“I hung up on you to spare you from getting upset. Rosie spoke without any filters, and I was concerned it might bother you.”
“Well, that’s quite the explanation! So, have you talked to Rosie about staying out of our lives?” Amanda asked skeptically, arms crossed.
Meanwhile, Aiden, playing with toys on the side, couldn’t help but whisper, “Daddy is in trouble because Mommy is so angry right now.”
Elias realized that persuading Amanda to open the door was futile. He sighed and said, “Fine… you can stay here for tonight. Just one night, though. You have to return to our room. tomorrow night.”
“Dream on! I’d rather sleep with our son every night.” Amanda deliberately provoked Elias, finding solace in getting under his skin.
However, she began to feel somewhat unreasonable, and she no longer heard Elias trying to make amends. This left her questioning whether his love for her was sincere.
Amanda was disappointed and thought to herself, What a despicable person! Men are all the same, not a decent one among them. Is he satisfied with a few comforting words, and then he just walks away? Her heart felt heavy, and she even briefly entertained the thought of divorce.
Tears welled up in Amanda’s eyes, and Aiden noticed her distress, asking, “Mommy, are you crying?”
“No, sweetie. I just got something in my eye.”
Just then, the sound of a key card swiping resonated from outside. The door swung open forcefully, revealing the tall figure of the man who had entered.
Amanda wiped her teary eyes and looked at him in disbelief. “How did you get in?”
“This is my home, so naturally, I can use a room card to enter,” Elias said with a gloomy expression.
