Chapter 284 Magical Practice
Chapter 284 Magical Practice
?
As the students prepared to move on to their second class after the sword sparring session, a range of reactions filled the classroom:
"What just happened? I couldn't follow their moves at all!"
"Did you see how fast they were? It was like a blur!"
"I thought Emma had the upper hand, but then Callius turned the tables. How did he do it?"
"That move they used... it was so unexpected. I need to learn more about it."
"I wish I could have seen the details of their technique. It happened too quickly!"
"It looked like Emma's attack was going one way, but then Callius defended himself from a different angle. How did he know?"
"I don't understand how Callius managed to counter Emma's strikes so effortlessly. Wasn't he a mage?"
"I feel like I missed something important. I couldn't keep up with their speed and precision."
"I need to ask someone who knows more about swordsmanship. Maybe they can explain what just happened. I want to see more of that, but I can't ask them at all."
The students wanted to ask Emma and Callius about the spar. But none of them could do it since the aura surrounding them was overbearing. Callius was Callius, and Emma was in a bad mood. At least, this is what it looked like.
Inside she was slightly different. Hearing their reactions, Emma threw a gaze at Callius, who was sitting beside her, as she sat on the backside of the class.
'What was that swordsmanship?' She asked herself, not being able to make any sense. Even though in the fight she lost herself over her excitement, now that everything calmed down, the realization hit her.
'This guy is also talented at swordsmanship. I knew he was able to beat the knights at that time, but I never thought he would be this strong.' In her eyes, Callius was always a type of scholar, those that would look down on others thinking they were smart.
That made sense considering his past behavior, but at the same time, her whole expectations were shattered now.
'But, the sword he used…. It was not like something I had seen before.' Of course, as a swordsman belonging to the Augustride Family, she was proud of their family's style, but at the same time, she also developed her own. 'I don't know if I can use the same move if I was in his shoes.'
In the first place, everything happened so rapidly that she wasn't able to make any sense at the beginning. But after she looked back, she realized what Callius had done.
'I am going to win next time.' Though in the end, she couldn't help but fuel his competitive spirit as she kept looking into the boy who was studying the book in front of him.
At this very moment, she had forgotten what the guy she was supposed to like had done to her friend.
/SWOOSH/
But before her thought could linger around him any longer, suddenly, a person appeared right before the class as he opened his arms wide, stopping himself.
"I am not late, am I?"
It was their eccentric magic teacher who would like to make flashy entrances.
"You are not late, sir Cernais."
As the girl in the first row answered with a respectful tone, the man released a huge sigh.
"I thought I was late, thank god." Even though he looked distressed, most students, Emma included, knew he was actually acting. After all, he was a mage belonging to a mage tower, so he wouldn't be someone that shallow.
"Now, my dear students, let's dive right into the world of elemental magic!" Cernais exclaimed, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
And it was not only him. After all, almost all the students inside the class knew today was the day when they would be able to get basic coaching from their instructor.
"Elemental magic is the art of harnessing the power of the natural elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Today, we will focus on the basics and practice controlling these elemental forces."
He began the class by explaining the fundamental principles of each element, elaborating on their characteristics and potential applications. Even though that was a subject that they had already gone over quite a lot, in the end, he wanted to give some insights about how students would be more successful while manipulating their elements in practice.
The students listened attentively, their curiosity piqued by the prospect of manipulating these powerful forces. After all, this was not something they could easily learn. It was the experience of a mage belonging to a magic tower.
As he checked his bracelet, his eyes shone for a second, nodding his head.
"Now, let's put theory into practice!" Cernais declared, clapping his hands together. "Since we have the training grounds ready and renewed after the sword sparring session, we'll continue our practice there. Each of you will focus on your selected attributes and demonstrate your control over them. Then according to your results, we may have to conduct a spar between students to see a variety of implementations that may give you insight."
Emma understood why he chose to wait. After all, the training grounds had yet to be turned from sword sparring mode to magical mode.
As the students made their way to the training grounds, excited chatter filled the air. They exchanged whispers and eager conversations, discussing their chosen elements and sharing their aspirations.
"I can't wait to finally practice with water! I've always felt a strong connection to it," one student exclaimed, a gleam of anticipation in their eyes.
There were some who were practicing their magic for the first time, even though they were rare.
"Fire is my element. I've been practicing at home, but this will be my first time using it in a controlled environment," another student shared, a mix of excitement and nervousness in their voice.
And they were those who had already practiced quite a lot.
"Tch…. Losers… Just buy a tutor or something…" And there were those that were rich and focused on magic.
However, there was one student that looked slightly different, as Callius just observed the students of the academy moving with a serious face.
'This happy life of yours is on a tightrope.' He couldn't help but mutter to himself seeing the students. After all, he was the one that knew the fate awaited this academy from the game.
'Well, letting you have some fun might not be that bad.'
With that thought, everyone reached the training grounds. This time different from the sword sparring session, the room was filled with small cabin-looking chambers where each student's name was there.
"Now. Some of you have already started using their spells and practicing with their affinities. Therefore the spell we are going to use here will be different from anything you have known so far, as it will be exclusive to Ark's Archives. And because the way you move your mana and the chants will be different, the process might be hard. I will be walking in the midst of your cabins while waiting for your questions."
As Cernais finished his words, a small booklet appeared on everyone's tables where their names could be seen. Since everyone had their own affinity Academy provided them with their own spells.
'Finally.' Callius thought to himself as he saw the booklets. 'I was waiting for this.' After all, the reason he entered this place was to increase his control.
As everyone entered their cabinets, they first started reading the chant and trying to understand the magic beneath.
'Third-rank improvised fire spell. Radiant Pyreblast.'
As Callius read the small but not small booklet in front of him, he knew this spell was complex.
'To think that they gave me this spell, I guess someone is trying to test me.' He thought, analyzing the spell. After all, there was no way they would give a spell that was a third-rank for a beginner class level. 'But, bring it on. After all, I am also trying to impress you.'
With that thought, he started reading the booklet in his hand, as well as the others.
Excitement rippled through the crowd, and students eagerly began their practices, conjuring flames, manipulating water, molding earth, or summoning gusts of wind. Dialogues floated through the air amidst their endeavors.
However, not everyone was training on their own. After all, the instructor hadn't said anything about training together.
As the students delved deeper into their elemental practices, the training grounds became a symphony of dialogue, laughter, and the crackling of flames. They supported each other, offering encouragement and celebrating small victories.
"Keep going! I can see your control improving with every attempt," a student cheered, watching their classmate's progress.
"This is so much fun! I never thought manipulating air could be this exhilarating," a student exclaimed, their voice filled with joy.
Since they had never used such improvised special magic, which was hidden behind the academy doors, everyone felt the thrill of learning.
/BOOM/
Until the sound of explosion filled the training room….
