Chapter 126 : Finally, Peace. Time to develop the Barren Land.
After a two-hour meeting with the elders, the gathering finally concluded. At its end, Su Yen granted them a day of respite. Nevertheless, he requested that five individuals remain behind.
He surveyed the five individuals with an impassive demeanor, causing four of them to feel a hint of nervousness. It was the first time Su Yen had singled them out in this manner.
"Relax," Su Yen said casually as he rose from his seat.
"Do you all understand that our proficiency in auxiliary occupations is lacking?" he inquired.
Su Lan and the other four nodded in agreement. It dawned on them that they had been asked to remain because they were the heads of their respective departments.
Being the head of such department, they knew how lacking they were. Even though the sect master had provided a lot manual and recipe. But somethings couldn't be learn in manual unless thought or seen.
Therefore, their progress was as slow as a snail.
"I am granting you a unique opportunity," Su Yen informed them with a serious tone. "Make the most of this opportunity, and do not let me down."
"We promise not to disappoint you, Sect Master," Kang, a middle-aged man, vowed earnestly.
"Very well," Su Yen nodded. "Come forth one at a time. Remember, you must not divulge this information to anyone who is not a member of the Su clan or part of the sect." His voice carried a stern warning.
"We understand," they replied in unison.
Su Lan stepped forward and stopped just a few inches from his face. She gazed at her younger brother, curious about the opportunity that awaited her.
Su Yen pointed his finger at her forehead, and a stream of information rushed into her mind. She closed her eyes, and for a few seconds, she remained in this state.
The aura surrounding her shifted as if she were undergoing an epiphany. Eventually, she opened her eyes and fixed them on Su Yen with wide-eyed astonishment. Finding herself at a loss for words, she could only muster a heartfelt, "Thank you."
The other four onlookers watched this unfold with confusion. They saw Su Yen point his finger at her forehead, but it appeared as though she had experienced a revelation.
Su Yen wasted no time and called the next person, Kang, the elder responsible for the construction engineering of the sect. After receiving the inheritance, Kang's expression was even more dramatic than Su Lan's.
He fell to his knees and kowtowed to Su Yen three times. Su Yen made no effort to stop him, recognizing the sincerity of Kang's gratitude.
Next was Elder Mei, a formation master. She received her inheritance and followed in Kang's footsteps, performing three kowtows to Su Yen.
Following her was Jiayi, a blacksmith master, and finally, Liwei, an elderly member responsible for medicine. Despite being the oldest among them, Liwei also performed three kowtows to Su Yen.
After granting them all the inheritance, Su Yen inquired, "I believe you all understand what you need to do?"
"Yes," they replied with beaming smiles, eager to return to their courtyards to digest the newfound knowledge.
"Good," Su Yen nodded, dismissing them with a wave of his hand.
He did not linger in the hall and made his way to the rear of the sect, entering the ancestral mountain.
Sitting in front of the hovering black pagoda, he delved into his work. Time passed, and the Barren Land transitioned into an era of development.
Surprisingly, even the greedy individuals supported the Celestial Heavenly Sect in its new endeavors.
The process of Citizen Registration proceeded smoothly. Those without Spirit Comms could request a loan from the sect to obtain one.
As a result, virtually everyone in the Barren Land now possessed Spirit Comms, even children.
The four largest cities in the Barren Land fortified their walls significantly. Towns and villages without sufficient funds received loans from the Celestial Heavenly Sect to construct protective walls.
However, the most remarkable sight in the Barren Land was the tall black pagoda. The four tallest pagodas were finally completed, eliciting immense joy from the people.
These structures were so tall that the human eye could not discern their peaks. Each person in the Barren Land now had Pagoda Bloodline coursing through their veins, and the pagodas had transformed into divine symbols in their hearts.
Consequently, even before the pagodas were officially unveiled, every passerby would pay their respects to these monumental structures.
It had become customary for clans and families to gather their members in the morning to offer prayers to the small pagodas within their homes.
Another significant change was the transition from traditional currency to spirit stones. The Celestial Heavenly Sect distributed a vast quantity of spirit stones to the public.
The exchange rate was set at 100 gold coins to one low-grade spirit stone, which now served as both a means of currency and a resource for cultivation.
Consequently, any job offering payment in spirit stones attracted a great deal of attention. One such job was the mining of metal ore in the Endless Mountain, a perilous undertaking due to the mountain's dangers.
Yet, the allure of earning five spirit stones a day proved irresistible, attracting hundreds of miners to toil day and night.
The work rotation remained unceasing, and the constant sound of axes echoed through the Endless Mountain.
After two weeks of seclusion, Su Yen emerged from the ancestral land. Upon his exit, Elder Jie was already waiting for him.
"Sect Master," he called out joyfully.
"Have you been waiting for me these past few days?" Su Yen asked, slightly surprised. Since he had activated his Spirit Comms' "do not disturb" mode, he expected to be bombarded with messages upon returning from his seclusion.
Elder Jie's presence took him off guard.
A wistful smile crossed Su Yen's face, and he shook his head. "Tell me what you've got."
"We have completed the construction of the Pagodas," Elder Jie announced happily.
"Good. I also have some announcements to make," Su Yen replied, after some contemplation. "Announce it, and I shall unveil the pagodas in three days."
