Chapter 213: Beast Attack - Part 1

Chapter 213: Beast Attack - Part 1

[Happy New Year Guys]

*****

In the sect, all the elders gathered with solemn expressions on their faces. Elder Jie stood at the center with Su Ming and Su Lin on his right.

"How is the situation?" He asked with a solemn tone.

"Not good," Su Ming answered. "All the towns and cities near the forest are being attacked at the same time."

"I think the beast race is going all out to destroy us," one of the elders said.

"In their dreams," another elder retorted.

They might have feared the beast race in the past, but not now. They had grown much stronger than before. Apart from that, there were many innovations that would protect them.

The problem of not being able to send reinforcements had been eliminated. With the Spirit Train, they could deploy their army in the shortest time frame.

Speaking of their army, each of them was armed with grade-1 weapons. Their armor was also made from grade-1 metal. As for the elite soldiers, they were overpowered with their Bronze Metal Armor.

On top of that, their pagoda bloodline made them virtually undefeated against beasts of the same realm and even those higher than them with a single realm.

Apart from that, for the beasts to invade the city, they needed to find a way to overwhelm their one-hundred-meter-high wall. On top of the city wall were thousands of Spirit Cannons.

In front of a Spirit Cannon, grade-3 beasts and below were nothing. For grade-4 beasts, they never had a chance to test it against them. But they were assured grade-4 beasts wouldn't even survive three thunder bullets at the same time.

As for whether there was a grade-5 beast, they were yet to find out.

Therefore, the Barren Land was like an impenetrable fortress. When you saw the nine-level pagoda that towered into the sky, you would know this was not the barren land of before but a terrifying one.

One mistake to do against such a terrifying force was to attack them. And the beast race just did that.

"How are the city and towns holding up?" Elder Jie asked.

"Quite alright. Apart from the aerial beasts, the beasts are yet to break through their fence."

Elder Jie creased his brow for a moment before he grumbled. "Those damn flying beasts are the only problem in our defense. We need to find a way to defend against them."

"We already have to defend against them…" Elder Su Mei responded.

Instantly, all eyes were focused on her. Taking a deep breath, she said slowly. "Before the sect master left, he gave me a protective formation."

"Really?!" Su Ming's eyes brightened.

"Yes. The formation was too advanced and complicated that I'm yet to understand it. The sect master said it was a test for me…."

Sighed!

Everyone let out a deep sigh when they realized what was going on. Elder Jie didn't have any change in his expression and asked. "How long will it take before you understand it?"

A bitter look appeared on her face as she said with embarrassment. "I don't know… I've only comprehended 20% of the formation."

20 Percent!

Everyone widened their eyes, staring at her with their jaws dropped to the ground. The hall descended into still silence as they never thought their Formation Master was this bad.

Watching the expression of everyone, Elder Mei wanted to dig a hole and hide in it. Holding the hem of her robe, she raised her head to meet their gaze head-on.

"Please put more effort. It was not only you that has a test from the sect master. Don't disappoint the sect master."

"I won't." She responded with a confident gaze.

It was true that it was not only her that was being tested by their sect master. Elder Feng was not present because he was trying to fulfill his assignment.

He had the toughest assignment of them all that he never stayed in the barren land.

"Let's forget about that for now. We should focus on how to deal with the beast tide," Elder Jie said.

"Should we send the army?" Su Ming asked.

"No." He shook his head.

Everyone looked at him, waiting for him to continue. Elder Jie smoothed his long beard and said slowly. "Sect Master has already foreseen that we may be attacked not only by the beast but from other enemies surrounding our land."

"To know how strong we've become, we need to test it with the beast attack, find our weakness, and find out how far our enemies can go in order to destroy us."

"Why do you think I never allowed the town and village to use their Spirit Cannons?"

"Without the Spirit Cannon and the army intervention, how long can the villages and towns survive? Let's watch out and see."

Even though the beast tide was horrifying with millions of beasts attacking the villages and towns, they were not having it easy.

Apart from the main barracks in the Eastern barren land and three sub-main barracks in the other barren lands, there were tens of garrisons surrounding the barren land.

In the Eastern barren land alone, there were six garrisons that were protecting the towns and villages. They were the first line of defense against any threat and would respond appropriately.

Therefore, when the beast tide broke out, the six garrisons absorbed the largest heat while smaller beasts that found ways to sneak past them were the ones that attacked the towns and villages.

In the Dreadshade Garrison, the soldiers were shouting and running back and forth trying to hold the ground.

"Commander, when are we going to use those damn weapons?" A captain shouted on top of his lungs.

"How the hell will I know," the commander shouted. "Just do your job and kill those damn beasts. I need to get back to my sleep before sunrise."

"Aye, commander."

The captain shouted and rushed to his line. He swung his sword and cut a giant beast into two. Even though they were overwhelmed by beasts on all sides, hardly was any of the soldiers dying.

Each swing of their swords took a life from a beast. They were like killing machines. In a couple of minutes, the thousands of soldiers had killed so many beasts that their corpses formed a small mountain.

To their blades, there was no difference between ordinary beasts, grade-1, and grade-2 beasts. All were slain in less than three attacks.

"Captain…" A soldier screamed, slicing the head of a wolf into two.

"What!"

"There are people fighting in the distance."

"What do you say?"

The soldier increased the volume of his voice and shouted. "THERE ARE PEOPLE FIGHTING IN THE DISTANCE, SIR."

"Are you serious?"

"Yes, sir."

The captain thought for a moment before giving out an order. "I want a hundred men to follow right now to rescue them."

Instantly, a hundred men gathered behind him as they made their way through the horde of beasts. Even though it seemed they were going on a suicide mission, they were not scared at all. They were using the tortoise defense formation. Soldiers with heavy armor surrounded the team, guarding them from any sneak attack from the beasts.

At the center were long-range soldiers clearing and killing every threat on their path. In the distance, the adventurers were exhausted. They were fighting with the last bit of strength in them.

Even though the beasts posed no threat to them individually, their never-ending attacks were taking a toll on their bodies.

Ah!

A miserable scream echoed from one

of the team members who failed to react on time. A sharp claw cut deep into his thigh, sending him a couple of distances rolling on the ground.

The hyena growled furiously as it failed to kill its prey in one swift attack. It opened its sharp jaw, ready to pounce on him once again.

However, his teammate reacted on time and sliced the hyena into two.

"That was close," the burly man said as he prepared to defend against a giant reptile.

"Look, the soldiers are coming to rescue us," a man shouted with joy.

Shortly, the soldiers arrived and killed all the surrounding beasts.

"Get your men and let's move," the captain shouted.

"Yes. Yes." The captain of the adventurer team nodded with his face full of gratitude.

Quickly, he ordered two of his men to carry their injured teammate. With the soldiers protecting them, they quickly made their way back to the garrison.

As the soldiers were rushing back to the garrison, three powerful grade-3 beasts appeared at the edge of the forest in their human form.

Two middle-aged men and a seductive woman with big boobs and ass. Her appearance was enough to give any man a sleepless night.

"All our minions are useless against them. When did the human race become this powerful?" The bull in its human form asked with shock written on his face.

"I don't know…but it must be related to the power of fate," the wolf responded.

"No matter how strong they are, when we enter their city, blood will flow," the python said.
