Chapter 294: Next: Baidu Prefecture
Chapter 294: Next: Baidu Prefecture
Just as Su Yen's cultivation was increasing at an alarming rate, the Zizhu Prefecture witnessed an unprecedented occurrence.
The spiritual energy of the prefecture rose to another level. Many who were cultivating had a breakthrough, and those who couldn't break through found their bottleneck loosening up.
Quickly, the inhabitants of the prefecture rushed to the You Connect to find out what was going on.
It was then they learned the reason. It was released on the Celestial Heavenly Store official page, congratulating the people of Zizhu Prefecture for supporting the barren land and the Celestial Heavenly Store in bringing peace to the world.
As long as the peace and prosperity of the world increased, the heavens would bless the people.
It was stated that this was all possible because of His Majesty's benevolence to his people.

When the inhabitants of the prefecture learned of this, they were stunned at first, not believing such a feat was possible because of a man.
However, news about the prosperity of the barren land circulated on the Spirit Network, shocking them to their stupor.
They only saw a corner of the barren land, and they were amazed by the wonder of such a backward place.
With evidence circulating on the Spirit Network, slowly the perception of the people began to change.
They began to believe the sudden rise of the spiritual energy was due to His Majesty's blessing.
With many people believing in the story, people began to wonder who the Majesty was.
Inside the Prefecture Lord's main hall, all the top clans in the capital looked at the prefecture lord for answers about the recent rise in spiritual energy.
They wouldn't just believe the propaganda spread by the Celestial Heavenly Store. They needed to confirm it from their lord.
"You all came to confirm the news, right?" the Prefecture Lord questioned with a calm expression, looking at the people below.
"Yes, Prefecture Lord," they all answered.
Even though they all came to seek answers, they were of two factions: those that supported the Celestial Forte Army and those that did not.
Patriarch Jun and Matriarch Jiang stood at one side, though they were century-old rivals, while Patriarch Yu, Patriarch Xu, and Patriarch Fang with their followers stood at the other side.
Looking at the two factions, the Prefecture Lord did not have any change in his expression and asked, "Do you think it is a coincidence when our prefecture decided to fall under the banner of the Celestial Heavenly Sect we received such blessings?"
No one responded, but they had the answers in their hearts.
"Do you also know it was a day after we defeated the governor's army that we received such blessings?"
Defeat the Governor's Army?!
Their eyes widened, and they looked at each other in shock.
How could this be?
The war had not even lasted a week, and the battle was already over.
How was it even possible?
Many of them didn't dare to believe it, but looking at the calm Prefecture Lord, they all already got the answers.
"With all this evidence, and you still in your narrow mind believed that this was just a stroke of luck, then you're the enemy of our land and you don't deserve the blessing of His Majesty."
He glared at the people but focused his attention on a particular group.
"Your time is limited. Spend it wisely," he advised and waved his hand, dismissing them.
While Patriarch Jun and Matriarch Jiang were leaving the hall with other clan masters, they heard the Prefecture Lord's voice transmission in their ears.
"Your children are performing well in the war. Be proud of them."
When the two heard this, their expressions didn't change, but they exchanged subtle glances.
Now that they confirmed the rumor, the news quickly spread throughout the You Connect.
Those that were still harboring some ill feelings for the Celestial Heavenly Store had a change in mind.
It was replaced with feelings of gratitude and praise. In taverns and restaurants, various stories about Su Yen were spreading like wildfire.
Some said he was born from heaven, while others said he fought the heavens for seven days and nights before the heavens released such a high density of spiritual energy to their land.
As for the Barren Land, they had gotten used to the periodic increase in their spiritual energy.
When it happened, they all went to their temple to thank His Majesty and the spirit of Nine Pagoda for blessing their lands.
Meanwhile, not every prefecture was happy. The closest prefecture to the Zizhu Prefecture was the Baidu Prefecture.
The Baidu Prefecture was the first people learned about the overwhelming defeat of the Governor's Army.
Inside the Baidu Prefecture capital, their Prefecture Lord, a middle-aged woman with sharp eagle eyes, was inquiring urgently, "Are you saying their armies are marching toward us as we speak?"
"Yes, my Lord," a woman dressed in black robe with a hood over her head responded.
Since she learned of the overwhelming defeat of the Governor's army, she was stunned for several minutes, unable to believe her ears.
The Governor's army wasn't just any army. It consisted of the best of the best among all the prefecture soldiers in the state.
And yet, they couldn't even last more than two days against their opponent, which was the weakest prefecture in the state.
How absurd was that?!
"My Lord, what should we do?"
Before the Baidu Prefecture Lord could respond, the massive door to the hall was pushed opened, and a young man entered. Instantly, the Baidu Prefecture Lord rose to her feet, her expression turning solemn.
She hadn't noticed the arrival of the young man, and her attendants hadn't announced his arrival either. This could only mean one thing: he was an enemy.
She and her attendant took a battle stance as they waited patiently for the young man to speak.
The young man stopped a couple of feet from the Prefecture Lord and a couple of inches from her attendant.
"I'm Huang Guo, an emissary of the Celestial Heavenly Sect," Huang Guo announced with a calm smile on his face.
"You're from the Celestial Heavenly Sect?" the Prefecture Lord asked, her eyes widening.
She couldn't believe the newly spreading power had already sunk its fangs into her prefecture.
Looking at the calm look on Huang Guo's face, she knew his presence meant a lot.
Still, she composed herself and continued, "What do you want?" She demanded in a cold voice.
"His Majesty, The Great, has asked you to surrender willingly without any bloodshed of your people," Huang Guo announced.
"Never!" She responded. "How dare a nobody call himself His Majesty!" She retorted in anger.
"You might be furious for the sudden surrender, but remember, don't ever slander the name of His Majesty The Great again in your life. Unless you don't want your head on your neck," he warned while still smiling.
However, to the Baidu Prefecture Lord and her attendant, that smile sent a shiver down their spines.
Watching their nervous expressions, Huang Guo chuckled inwardly and continued with his calm expression.
"To make it simple for you. In three days, His Majesty The Great allows you to select one thousand of your best soldiers to confront one thousand of his men. If you can defeat them, your land is yours."
"The battleground is right in front of the capital."
With that, Huang Guo left calmly as he arrived.
The Baidu Prefecture Lord stood there, her mind racing with thoughts of the impending battle and the consequences of her decisions.
She knew she had to act swiftly and wisely to protect her people and her land.
