Chapter 75 : 40,000 Death
Chapter 75 : 40,000 Death
Looking at the deadly sandstorm rushing from the distance, all the Celestial Heavenly Sect soldiers rushed out of the desert at their top speed.
Even though most were already exhausted, they managed to drag their bodies out of the desert on time.
The hundred-meter sandstorm was so intimidating that those at the boundary of the desert needed to retreat a couple of tens of meters to save themselves from the sand wind.
Su Ming, Biyu, and Su Bolin were shouting orders continuously, trying to get the army in order.
After a couple of minutes, the soldiers were in order while sitting on the ground, patting.
"Everyone, well done. The enemy has been defeated," Su Ming shouted excitedly.
'What! We've defeated the Desert Sand Men!' They screamed in their minds, with eyes shining in ecstasy.
Their low morale skyrocketed immediately. This was what they were fighting for.
And behold, they accomplished it. The death of their brother wouldn't be in vain.
The tired soldiers began to discuss the battle happily.
Even though most didn't know how they defeated the enemy, they had an inkling of what happened.
Su Ming looked at the joyful expressions on the soldiers' faces and nodded.
"Tonight, you can enjoy yourselves to the fullest," Su Ming shouted.
"Really!" A soldier exclaimed.
"Hmm!" He nodded.
Just as the tired soldiers were still trying to recover their breath, hundreds of men and women entered the campground, pushing various carts.
Seeing this, the smiles on the soldiers' faces deepened.
One of the ordinary people looked in Su Ming's direction and received a nod from him.
At once, the carts were unloaded with mouth-watering food.
Smelling the delicious aroma from the foods, the soldiers couldn't help but swallow the lump in their throats.
A jar of wine was uncovered, and its thick, strong smell filled the camp.
Immediately, some impatient soldiers went to request wine.
Gulping the wine, the soldiers had looks of relish on their faces.
As soldiers, they didn't care about their image. They belched and shouted happily, humming their favorite tunes.
Su Ming looked at the happy soldiers for a moment before turning his head toward the desert.
The sandstorm was still raging furiously, blocking the sky.
A slight frown appeared on his face as he thought about his little brother.
'I hope you're okay, little brother.'
Even though the sandstorm was heavy and dangerous, it was nothing to a grade 2 flying beast.
Blue Wing Eagle flew carefree over it with a young man in a pristine white robe sitting on top.
Su Yen looked at the heavy sandstorm below and creased his brow for a moment.
'This must be from the death of the sand demon lord,' he thought with a slight shock.
'I guess if the sand demon had gone all out from the beginning, it would have been a tough fight.'
Sighed, 'He underestimated me and made his death quite quick…'
He squinted his brow and thought out loud.
"I must never underestimate this sealed demon. They have more means than I imagined," he reminded himself and controlled Blue Wing to return.
In a special room on the campground, Su Ming and other commanders waited in silence.
Su Ming and Su Bolin didn't have any change in their expressions. They were drinking and discussing in a low voice.
As for the others, they were tense, filled with nervousness. They adjusted their armor frequently while looking at the entrance.
Su Ming looked at the tense commanders and chuckled.
"You people should relax."
The commanders tried to relax but found it quite impossible.
They knew who was coming; how could they dare relax?
If the Barren Land were to have an Emperor, the person coming would be the emperor.
Who meets the emperor and relaxes?
Su Bolin looked at them and understood how they felt.
He, as a Su, was still nervous in front of their clan master. How could they not?
Just then, the door creaked open.
Thud!
At once, everyone was on their feet; this included Su Ming and Su Bolin.
The sound from their boots echoed in unison.
The usual calm and carefree looks on Su Ming and Su Bolin's faces had long disappeared.
They looked at the young man in an immaculate white robe in reverence.
"Salute," Su Bolin shouted.
At once, they opened their left palms and placed them vertically on their chests before folding their right hands into fists, putting them on their left palms.
Finally, they gave a deep bow.
"At ease, soldiers," Su Yen commanded calmly.
He took his seat and looked at the soldiers without any expression on his face.
"You can all sit."
With nervous expressions on their faces, they took their seats, not daring to look at his face.
Biyu's heart was racing. She had heard the rumors about the sect master's beauty but always thought it was just an exaggeration.
But now, she realized those rumors still underestimated the sect master's beauty.
"How many soldiers did we lose?" Su Yen asked.
"Forty thousand dead and ten thousand injured," Su Bolin reported.
When everyone heard the number of deaths, they were shocked.
They widened their eyes and exchanged subtle glances before looking at the young man on the main seat.
Su Yen didn't have any change in his expression. He looked at Su Bolin for a moment before turning to his elder brother.
The slight movement in his eyes made the atmosphere inside the hall drop a couple of degrees.
The atmosphere was tense; everyone held their breath, scared to let it out.
Su Ming saw his younger brother looking at him and knew he was demanding an explanation but didn't have one.
Previously, he thought his tactics would work and lower the death rate.
However, he realized how wrong he was. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Seeing this, all the soldiers had their hearts in their throats.
If his elder brother was like this, what about them? The commander of the battalion.
It was like they were sitting on thousands of sharp needles. They dared not make a noise and dared not stand up.
The room was suffocating inside out, quiet like a graveyard.
"This should be the last time," Su Yen finally broke the silence.
Even though he was looking at his elder brother, they knew he was talking to everyone.
"Tomorrow, we begin the excavation."
