Chapter 104

“Oh.” Ethan glanced at his documents and gave Caleb a nod without saying much else. He sounded like his regular self—he didn’t seem affected by the news at all. Caleb eyed him speechlessly.

Is that all Mr. Knight is going to say? Mr. Rowland has already gone over to the Wolands to propose marriage to Mrs. Knight, yet Mr. Knight is acting as if everything is normal. Is it normal for Mr. Knight to act like this?

“What did you just say?” As questions popped into Caleb’s mind, Ethan questioned Caleb once more. This time, he sounded rather different. He was no longer as calm as before—the peace in the air was replaced by a bone-chilling aura. “The Rowlands have gone over to the Woland Residence to propose a marriage,” Caleb repeated himself.

“Did Keith go over to propose marriage? Does he want to marry Alice?” Ethan finally showed some response to Caleb’s words. This time around, his voice sounded eerily cold. Previously, when they were at Royale, Keith had taken an interest in Alice, and just one day ago, Keith had proposed to Alice. Despite all of this, Ethan hadn’t expected Keith to approach the Woland Family to officially ask for Alice’s hand in marriage.

“Yes.” Caleb let out a soft sigh before he steadied himself to speak once more. “Keith proposed a marriage with Mrs. Knight.”

“Where is Alice?” Ethan recalled that Alice didn’t have a close relationship with the Wolands, and he figured that Alice would probably just ignore this matter.

“Alice headed back to Woland Residence.” Caleb’s voice sounded especially deep and grim as he made this statement. Ethan immediately narrowed his eyes upon hearing this. Alice has a really tense relationship with the Wolands, and she rarely ever returns to their household. I can’t believe she rushed home right after hearing that Keith was there to propose marriage. Great! Just great!

“I want you to book me the next flight home.” Ethan was silent for about 30 seconds before he spoke again. “But Mr. Knight, after this…” Caleb was stunned. There were important matters at hand, and Ethan had only gone abroad earlier that morning, yet now, he wanted to head back before he had even settled things there. What was going on?

Ethan didn’t say much and simply shot Caleb an icy glare. My wife is about to be snatched away by someone else. Do I look like I’m in the mood to deal with work now? Is money more important than my wife?

“I got it. I’ll get that done immediately.” Caleb no longer dared to say anything after he saw the look in Ethan’s eyes. Furthermore, Caleb figured that there would still be some time before Ethan’s departure even if he booked the flight immediately. Mr. Knight probably still has some time to get things done. To Caleb’s surprise, Ethan shoved all his documents into Caleb’s hands. “You can handle this.”

Caleb took a sharp breath. Mr. Knight is way too stubborn. This is the first time I’ve seen him act like this! Well, he probably only reacts like this when it’s related to Mrs. Knight. He’s dropping everything here just to go home for Mrs. Knight. I wonder what will happen to Mr. Rowland once Mr. Knight gets back. Just the sound of Ethan’s breath was enough to make Caleb’s legs tremble with fear. Caleb knew that whatever was about to happen would certainly be nothing short of chaos and disaster!

Meanwhile, Alice arrived at Woland Residence only to have Amelia greet her with ‘warmth’. “Alice, you’re finally back! It’s good to have you back. We can’t have Old Mr. Rowland waiting forever. Mrs. Rowland already spent half her day waiting for you. Since you’ve already handed Woland Group over, I don’t understand why you couldn’t come home a little earlier. You don’t have much to do, anyway.” Amelia was clearly trying to start an argument—she wanted to make the Rowlands feel dissatisfied with Alice’s attitude.

However, Alice simply ignored the woman. She didn’t glance in Amelia’s direction, and she didn’t reveal any hint of emotion on her face. James’ gaze landed on Alice the moment she stepped in. When he

saw how unresponsive Alice was toward Amelia’s words, his eyes glinted with interest. Meanwhile, Lindsay let out a quiet sigh when she saw Alice. The scar on her face does make her look rather bad. I don’t understand why Keith has to choose Alice out of all the options he has.

Lindsay was already feeling rather annoyed because Alice didn’t come to Woland Residence when she showed up to propose marriage. Now, seeing Alice’s scar made Lindsay feel more displeased than ever. However, Lindsay didn’t dare to say anything since James hadn’t made any comments.

“You’re home, Alice.” Charles grinned at the woman as he spoke in a warm and loving tone. Elijah had left for the office and Sophia was at her daughter’s place, so Woland Residence was pretty quiet. Alice was pleased to see that. “Yeah, I’m home,” Alice replied. She glanced at James and Lindsay for a while before she parted her lips to speak.

“She looks like a decent woman.” James made a statement before Alice could say anything. He was looking directly at Alice, so it was obvious that his comment was directed at her. Lindsay twitched her lips in annoyance. Decent? How can Old Mr. Rowland see Alice as someone decent? Doesn’t he feel bad about lying? Lindsay gritted her teeth in frustration. Is Old Mr. Rowland turning blind? Is that why he finds Alice decent? Emma is way better than Alice. Lindsay finally concluded that the Rowland Family was just a bunch of people who were too blind to distinguish between good and bad.

The rest of the people also froze upon hearing James’ words. Even Alice seemed rather shocked. Why did Old Mr. Rowland just say that?

Alice felt like it was no longer appropriate to say what she had intended to say after she heard James’ statement. Alice sent a glance in the old man’s direction as she pressed her lips together. He didn’t do that intentionally, did he? “You sure are lucky, Old Mr. Woland. You have such a fantastic granddaughter.” James turned to look at Charles as he continued to compliment the young lady.

Charles was too stunned to speak. Meanwhile, Emma, who had been sitting in a corner, twisted her face into a frown. She was also a part of the Woland Family—how could an idiot like Alice take all her spotlight away?

“I’m not as lucky as you are. My grandson sure gives me a lot to worry about! He’s nearly 30 this year, yet he doesn’t have a family or a career. He practically has nothing! Ugh. I can’t tell you how bothered I am.” James shook his head as he let out a sigh.

Lindsay felt rather displeased to hear the old man’s words. Why would he talk about his grandson like that? Is he really here to propose a marriage? James’ words only made it harder for Charles to continue the conversation—Charles had no choice but to let out an awkward smile. On the other hand, Alice’s eyes glimmered with interest as she looked at James. This guy’s interesting. He’s here to propose marriage, yet he makes Keith sound so worthless, huh? Well, I have to agree that he somewhat messed with my plans. He’s making it hard for me to just get things over with.
