"Moyu, are you sure?"
He should be happy that she was giving him her answer right now, but he couldn't help but think that she was just pitying him, or worse, she might be saying it out of gratitude.
Tang Moyu nodded in response.
"Yes." She reaffirmed her answer. "I hope you won't turn back on your word now."
"Never," Feng Tianyi replied without hesitation. The right person would never leave his or her better half, so why would he leave Moyu when she's everything he'd wanted?
His heart, if he had one, leapt in joy in her admission. Normally, whenever his exes said the L-word to him, he started to lose interest in them. He would simply turn the other way and never look back.
But in Tang Moyu's case, he realized how foolish he could be for this woman.
His mind was already set. Aside from her, he wouldn't love or marry someone else. Moreover, in this lifetime, if there's a chance, he would only have Tang Moyu as his wife.
Feng Tianyi pulled her, allowing her to sit on his lap. His obsidian eyes on her cold and guarded ones, his heart missing a few beats. She was his. His fingers gently held the side of her face, allowing him to look at her closely.
The empress was irrevocably his and the devil loved this fact. He'd never expected that she would love him back. Even if she never did, he would still feel this way for her.
The devil vowed that he would protect her and her little buns with his life from this day onwards. No one would be able to get close enough to hurt her ever again, even if it's her own family. He would destroy anyone who dared to try.
Tang Moyu looked at him with such bright eyes, like those of her daughter's, so full of emotions this time. It made Feng Tianyi ache with such longing for things he couldn't even articulate right now.
"You love me?" He asked, still couldn't believe that the cold empress reciprocated his feelings. If only he wasn't crippled, he would run to the rooftop of the hospital they were in and shout at top of his lungs, screaming 'Tang Moyu loves me back!' shamelessly.
"It doesn't really bother you that I'm like this?" He asked.
Tang Moyu's brows knitted.
"I thought I've already made it clear. Should I really be bothered that you cannot walk with me?" She asked him, making him smile.
"No, I suppose it would be your turn to wait until I'll be able to get back on my feet." He paused as he remembered something. "How about me being the 'Devil'? Doesn't it bother you at all?"
How can she not fall for him when everything he'd done so far was to support her? He tried his best to understand her even if it was hard. He also loved her children and was willing to sacrifice himself just to save Xiao Bao's life.
Something inside her heart melted at the thought of how far Feng Tianyi was willing to go to protect her little buns. If her children didn't approve of him, Tang Moyu was sure that she could never have mustered the courage to accept what she felt for him.
"Everyone keeps telling me you're the bad guy, but I think they don't just know you well. Those unfair deals you had with them, it wasn't your fault that they couldn't resist the temptation. They lost to themselves, not to you." She paused and settled next to him.
"If they have even a single brain cell that worked, they would have thought of finding another way, other than selling their soul to the devil."
His thumb brushed over her lower lip as he pulled her face to his, pressing their foreheads together. Feng Tianyi had never met a woman like her in his life. Having been stuck in a wheelchair for about five years now, he didn't think he would be able to find a woman who would accept him with open arms in this condition.
"Kiss me, Moyu."
He felt her stiffen, her hands resting on his shoulders as she contemplated whether to push him away or not. His lips grazed over hers as if he was testing her.
The aloof empress's cheeks were apple-red when she pressed her lips on his soft warm ones. His lips easily yielded beneath hers and she was surprised at how plump they felt under her own.
She pressed closer and in a moment she felt his strong arms encasing her in a hug, his lips opening, tongue plundering her mouth with a gentleness she hadn't expected from him. Feng Tianyi angled his lips into a more comfortable position, continuing the sweet kiss that formed butterflies in Tang Moyu's stomach.
This was her first time experiencing something like this. She realized that only Feng Tianyi was able to invoke this kind of feeling within her. It felt the same as the first kiss they shared in her garden, when they only had the weeping cherry tree as their witness.
When they parted from each other, the empress's cheeks were tinted with a deeper shade of blush, making the devil chuckle at her reaction. Ah, he needed to remind himself that Tang Moyu had no prior experience in dating and relationships before him.
"You aren't going to take it back, are you?" He asked her. His finger reaching out to play with some strands of her long black hair.
"No," Tang Moyu said. "No take-backs!" She promised him.
