204 Calm Before the Storm 2
He noticed Tang Moyu's jaws hardening, her hands gripping her chopsticks tightly. He was sure that they were both wondering why Tang Wanyu wanted to see her.
"Bring her here, Auntie Lu. I want to see what my sister is up to." Tang Moyu finally responded. But something was off about the old woman's expression. Something the empress didn't miss since the moment she rushed in.
"But Moyu…" Auntie Lu leaned forward, whispering something in Tang Moyu's ear.
The empress' body visibly shivered, her eyes widening to whatever the older woman told her. Tang Moyu pulled herself on her feet, making Feng Tianyi wonder what could be the problem this time.
"Moyu, what's wrong? Didn't you want me to meet your sister?" He asked. In fact, aside from Moyu's little buns and Lu Tianxin, he hadn't met anyone from the Tang family, much less Moyu's mother and her siblings.
"No, that's not it." Tang Moyu replied in such a cold voice that the devil could only interpret as trouble. "It's improper for Baobao and Little Star to meet their aunt this way." She told him, which only confused the hell out of him.
"Then allow me to come with you and meet her." He held her wrist, his eyes telling her she didn't need to face whatever it was alone.
Tang Moyu stared at him for a moment before nodding in agreement. Leaving her little buns with Auntie Lu to look after them, the two went to the main house, where Tang Wanyu was waiting for the empress.
The moment they stepped inside the main house, they noticed a woman wrapped in a dirty blanket from head to toe, shivering in her seat. Beneath her, bared dirty toes could be seen and Tang Moyu wondered if this was what Auntie Lu had meant earlier.
"She's in a dire situation, Moyu. I don't think your children should see Miss Wanyu in such a state. She's basically been beaten black and blue by someone." Auntie Lu told her.
"What's going on?" She asked as she and Feng Tianyi joined their guests in the sitting area of the empress's home. There were two men standing behind the woman who she assumed was her sister.
The moment they heard her voice, they turned their heads to see her. The woman who was sitting on the couch immediately stood up, letting the blanket fall from her head, shocking both the empress and the devil at the same time.
The woman ran towards the empress barefooted, fell on her knees, clinging on Tang Moyu's arm, and begged.
"Moyu, please help me." Tang Wanyu cried. "You have to help me… please."
"Y-yes, she's my sister," Tang Moyu was shocked to see her older sister in this condition. Just what had happened for her elegant sister to end up looking like this?!
"Did she arrive alone or did someone drop her here?" She asked the two guards who escorted her sister.
The two men looked at each other then shook their heads.
"We didn't see anyone but her, Miss Tang. She also begged us not to tell anyone that she came here to see you."
That immediately sent alarming bells to Tang Moyu's mind. She might not be close with her elder sister, but Tang Wanyu had always tried her best to stop their mother from hitting her throughout their childhood.
Tang Moyu helped her sister to get back on her feet and cupped both sides of Tang Wanyu's face. Her heart aching to see her older sister like this. Her eyes flashing red with rage. Who's the bastard that dared to beat her sister up?
One of Tang Wanyu's eyes was black. Her lip had a cut at the corner and was still swollen. There was a dry streak of blood on her forehead, indicating that she'd been beaten not so long ago. Under the blanket, Tang Wanyu was wearing a thin and long nightdress that looked like it had seen better days than it had now.
"Thank you for escorting my sister here. Please see to it that you won't tell a single soul that Tang Wanyu has come here." Tang Moyu told the two guards. Both of them nodded, acknowledging her instruction. They were escorted out by one of the two maids who were responsible for keeping the main house clean and tidy.
Tang Moyu helped her sister to sit back on the couch and knelt with one knee on the floor, giving the weeping Tang Wanyu a good look.
"What happened to you?" Tang Moyu's voice trembled with anger. "Who did this to you?"
She needed to know which bastard had dared to lay a hand on her gentle-mannered sister. Just like her, Tang Wanyu had been raised to become someone's wife, and she had been married for years now.
Meanwhile, Feng Tianyi politely asked the other maid to fetch the first aid kit and some clean clothes Tang Wanyu could change into.
Instead of answering her question, Tang Wanyu threw herself in the empress' arms and cried nonstop. Her whole body shook with fear from the physical abuse she was subjected to.
She had never seen her sister like this, not even when their mother hit Tang Wanyu when she dared to protect her. Her ever so gentle and soft-spoken sister didn't deserve to be treated like this. No— scratch that. No women should be subjected to this.
