Chapter 322 - I Give You My Word (2)
Gu Yuyao sat patiently as the stylist did the finishing touches on her headdress. She had never thought that this day would ever come and that she would actually marry the love of her life. Maybe it took her and He Lianchen a decade to figure out their issues, but at least in the end, they managed to patch things up between them.
"Nervous?" She heard her grandfather ask and saw him in the reflection of the vanity mirror, standing behind her.
Gu Yuyao had never thought that there would be a day that she would receive such love from a family member. Too bad her parents and her older brother weren't here to join her in this joyous event in her life.
Though it was too late for her parents to make up to her, she was sure as hell that her brother would be proud of her, happy for her. Wasn't it what he wanted when he sacrificed his life to save her? More than anything, Gu Yuyao wanted her brother to be here.
For the longest time, Gu Yuyao had refused to look at herself in the mirror because it only reminded her of how much of a failure she was. She didn't want to be reminded of what she had lost.
"A little, Grandpa." She admitted to her grandfather. "I hope this ends soon. I hate facing the crowd and media."
"Ah, Yao'er, please. This is your special day. Don't you think you should enjoy it to the fullest? I want you and Lianchen to be happy. So try your best to be happy, alright?" Elder Gu tapped her shoulder. He regretted that she didn't have her parents to walk down the aisle with her.
Gu Yuyao gave him a genuine smile and patted the hand that was on her shoulder. They only have each other now as family, although another person would be joining them soon. He Lianchen had decided to marry into the Gu family instead of tying himself and his newly wedded wife to the He family.
He Lianchen had chosen to cut his familial ties just to make sure that they wouldn't come after his wife. If he wanted to protect Gu Yuyao and his future children, they needed to stay away from the He family, avoiding the family's involvement in their lives.
"Just do your best to be happy. Grandpa only wanted you to be happy. Lianchen and you would need trust and depend on each other from now on." Elder Gu said before they were called out as the wedding was about to start.
"Yes, Grandpa. I understand."

Meanwhile, He Lianchen was waiting idly with Song Fengyan, along with Feng Tianyi and the elder little bun, his hands in his pockets. Today was his wedding day, but no one from the He family had come for his wedding. Maybe that was for the better. He didn't want Gu Yuyao to know how horrible his relationship was with his family.
Gu Yuyao deserved to be surrounded by people who loved her, not people who would use her just because of her family background and status. It might have taken them ten long years to get here, but it was worth the shot and all the damn years of waiting for her return.
"Are you alright? Are you having wedding jitters?" Song Fengyan asked.
"No, of course not. I'm so damn sure about this, Fengyan. You know how long I have waited for this to happen." He Lianchen said. He would be done if he didn't marry Gu Yuyao now. There was no way in hell he would let this chance slip when it was within his reach.
"I've never seen you this nervous before, Lianchen. Not even the hardest case in court can make you this anxious." Feng Tianyi commented as he let Xiao Bao eat some ch.i.p.s while sitting on his l.a.p.
He Lianchen scoffed at that.
"You'll understand what I feel when you and Miss Tang finally decide to get married."
When Xiao Bao heard his words, he looked up to his Daddy Ji.
"You and Mommy are getting married?"
Feng Tianyi laughed and patted the little boy's head.
"No, Baobao." When he saw the boy's smile faltered, he continued, "At least not so soon."
"But why? I thought you said you love our mommy. Mommy also likes you." Xiao Bao pressed, wanting to know the truth.
Song Fengyan and He Lianchen waited for the devil's answer. Just last night, they had confirmed that Tang Moyu's little buns were indeed Feng Tianyi's, but they had no idea how to break the news to the empress or to the empress dowager.
"It's not the right time yet, Baobao." Feng Tianyi answered truthfully. "I need to ask for your Mommy's hand first before I can marry her."
"Mommy's hand? You want to cut my mommy's hand?!" He exclaimed.
Horror was written all over Xiao Bao's face as he imagined his mommy's hand being cut. Then how come her Auntie Qian and other women he knew were married still had their hands intact?
"No, no, Baobao. That's not what I meant." Feng Tianyi had a hard time controlling his laughter. He should have worded his words better earlier to avoid being misunderstood.
"What I mean is to ask her family's permission. Tell you what, when I think I'm ready to ask your mother for marriage, you'll be the first one to know." He smiled at the boy.
"Really? You promise?" Xiao Bao asked with puppy eyes. He needed to know if they were going to marry. It was important for him to know that whoever marries their Mommy, he would love and protect her.
"I promise. I give you my word. You and Little Star will be the first ones to know." Because they were Moyu's family, he would ask for her hand from their little buns.
