Silence engulfed them as both of them were deep in their own thoughts. One was filled with guilt, the other feeling hopeless in their situation.

"Where did we go wrong, Xiyan?" Song Fengyan asked in a low voice.

"I don't know…" Lan Xiyan didn't have an answer for that, but he was right. She shouldn't have kept everything to herself and should have at least told him what was happening.

However, Song Xingji's words resounded in her head. She couldn't offer Song Fengyan anything and would only cause him shame and humiliation in the future. The discrepancy in their social standing was just too much.

How can a person like her be with someone like Song Fengyan? This wasn't a fairy tale and she wasn't Cinderella. She knew that a happy ending was just impossible for someone like her, who had a dark past.

Even now, she was very careful not to disclose anything that might ruin her career. She even considered retiring early and leaving the limelight to avoid the problem altogether.

She didn't even plan on becoming a popular actress, but because of her need to support her young daughter, one successful role led to another until it was too late for her to realize that she had submerged herself into show business completely.

"So what do you plan to do now?" She glanced at his serious face, hoping that he wouldn't f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y take Yunyun's custody from her.

Lan Xiyan wouldn't be able to take it if Song Fengyan and his family forcefully took her daughter away. No matter what happened between her and Song Fengyan, the irrefutable truth was that her little dumpling was a Song, and that couldn't be changed.

Seeing her worried expression, Song Fengyan could guess what was running on her mind. He sighed and ran a hand through his thick hair.

"I'm not taking her away, Xiyan. I just want to be allowed to become part of her life." He said with all honesty.

It was alright if Lan Xiyan didn't want him anymore. He'd long accepted that perhaps the two of them weren't meant to be, but he didn't want to be parted with his daughter anymore.

"Fine." Lan Xiyan swallowed the lump in her throat. "But let me explain the situation first to Yunyun. She has no idea…"

"You never told her anything about me?"

Now, that was something Song Fengyan hadn't expected from her. He had thought that she would have at least told their daughter where her father was.

"No." Lan Xiyan looked away and rubbed her arm nervously. A habit of hers that Song Fengyan knew about a long time ago.

"I don't know how to explain to her… I'm not even sure if you want her…"

"What kind of bullshit is that, Lan Xiyan? Of course, I want her!" Song Fengyan snapped at her, surprising not only Lan Xiyan, but himself as well. Realizing what he had done, he quickly apologized. "I'm sorry."

"No. I am sorry." Lan Xiyan shook her head. "I was wrong for denying you and Yunyun's chance to get to know each other." Her eyes started to rim with tears. "I don't mind if you want to be involved in her life, but please… please don't take her away from me." She begged him, this time she allowed her tears to roll down her cheeks.

Song Fengyan's lips pressed into a thin line. Did she really think that he was that heartless to take Yun'er away from her own mother? The last thing he wanted was for his daughter to hate him.

He could see how much the mother and child loved each other. Why would he separate the two of them? That was really unnecessary.

"I understand." He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "As for the Song family and my sister, let me deal with them. This is between me and Yun'er. Let's discuss her child support. But first things first, we need to run a blood test to her."

"But why…" Her words trailed off as it dawned to her what he meant by that. How could she forget that Song Fengyan had a rare blood type? It was dangerous for him, so it would also be dangerous for Yunyun if she inherited it.

"Okay." She agreed. "I'll explain it to her later."

The next hour was spent discussing the arrangement for Song Fengyan's visitation and their daughter's child support.

Song Fengyan insisted on setting up a trust fund for Lan Yunru, which Lan Xiyan couldn't refuse at all. This was the only thing he could do for now to make up for the time he hadn't been able to support his daughter.

Some time later, they both heard Lan Yunru's voice from the bedroom. Then they heard Auntie Yu explaining to the child where her mother was.

"She's having a talk with a guest right now, Yun'er." They heard Auntie Yu said.

Lan Xiyan glanced at Song Fengyan, who was preoccupied with their daughter's voice. It pained her that it took years before they could reunite, and it was all her fault.

"Do you want to see her now?" She asked him.

Song Fengyan looked at her blankly then nodded. Suddenly, he felt nervous about him being introduced to Lan Yunru as her father.

"Then let's go. Let's settle this problem once and for all." Lan Xiyan said before she stood up and walked towards the room where their daughter was in.

Song Fengyan followed shortly after her. He watched as she knocked on the door, taking Auntie Yu and Lan Yunru's attention. Seeing the two of them together, Auntie Yu stood up and excused herself.

This was a family matter, so she shouldn't get involved in it. The three of them deserved some privacy.

"Uncle Yan, you are still here?" Lan Yunru was surprised to see Little Star's uncle here in their home.
