Tang Moyu glared at the phone with a ferocity that Feng Tianyi rarely saw in her. Whenever she looked like this, he knew that his wife's patience was already running thin. Also, something about the way she looked informed him that she was considering Zhu Ziqian's suggestion.
"Ha. Do you really think you can threaten me like that? Do you think I have such a benevolent heart to save them by putting myself in danger? Don't make me laugh," the empress snorted arrogantly, hoping that her husband had already managed to locate where the phone call was made. The faster they knew where he was, the better.
"Do you really believe what you say, Madam Feng? Do you want me to send a little souvenir from your dear assistant?" Zhu Ziqian's voice warned Tang Moyu, and her hands clenched tightly on her side knowing that Cheng Ning's life was in danger because of her.
"I'll give you enough time to think about it, Madam Feng. You will receive an address where we should meet tonight. If you don't show up on time, I'll make sure you'll regret not taking my warning seriously— and oh! Please make sure you don't bring the police with you, or else, Miss Cheng and the nurse will blow up beyond recognition." She heard Zhu Ziqian laugh maniacally before hanging up the call.
"Got it!" Feng Tianyi shot up from his seat and made a call to the authorities to send someone to the location where the call was made. They needed to hurry or else Zhu Ziqian would be able to slip from their grasp again.
Tang Moyu remained rooted in her place even after the call ended. This was one of the rare times she hated that she was right. If something terrible happened to Cheng Ning, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself.
She shut her eyes and took a calming breath. This wasn't the time for self-pity. Cheng Ning needed their help and there was no way she would abandon her subordinate like that. It seemed that Zhu Ziqian had truly lost his rational mind and refused to accept reasoning at this point.
When Feng Tianyi came back, he found her at the same place where he left her. He drew his brows together and got worried when he realized that she was considering Zhu Ziqian's demand for a switch.
"No, baby. I cannot allow you to go to him." He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. "I wouldn't know what to do if I lose you. So please… don't go to him," he begged her.
As her husband, how could he not know her intention to save Cheng Ning and the old nurse's life? Since Zhu Ziqian wanted her, he wouldn't mind abandoning the two women in order to keep Tang Moyu safe.
"There's no other choice, Tianyi. If I don't show up today, I fear that he would harm Cheng Ning and Head Nurse Yu," Tang Moyu told him. "Unless the police would be able to get him before the time comes."
Feng Tianyi wanted to be selfish right then— to tell her that it didn't matter to him what happened to the two women, but he knew better not to voice out these horrible thoughts to his wife. In the end, he was still the same horrible and devious man that he was years ago. This was his true dark nature— a part of him that he couldn't shed no matter how much he wanted to for Tang Moyu's sake.
If Tang Moyu knew what he was thinking, he knew she would be upset and disappointed with him, and that was the last thing Feng Tianyi wanted to see and hear from his dear wife. Still, how could he allow her to put her life in danger? Zhu Ziqian wanted to spite him by using Tang Moyu. The man knew that she was his greatest weakness.
He pushed her shoulders away and cupped the side of her face. He would rather surrender himself to Zhu Ziqian rather than allow his wife to accept the man's suggestion.
"Then allow us to do what we could do to find him," he said in a desperate tone. "I cannot allow you to go and put yourself at risk for their sake."
"You know well it's me that he wanted, Tianyi. I could protect myself, but Miss Cheng and the old lady couldn't." Tang Moyu tried to reason, but her husband wouldn't hear any of it.
No matter what she says, Feng Tianyi feared what Zhu Ziqian would do to her later. If he'd lose Tang Moyu, then what was the point of being alive?
"I still can't… You know I cannot be without you anymore, Moyu," he admitted his weakness.
Tang Moyu's heart was moved seeing his expression. How long had she wanted to be cherished and loved like this? When she was younger, she always thought that perhaps she didn't deserve to be loved, that was why her father and Zhang Wuying had ignored her existence.
However, as Feng Tianyi held her, she realized that this was home— the warmth she'd yearned for, for the longest time. There's always a sense of peace and contentment she only experienced being in his arms. So, she understood why he was acting like this. If they had other options other than exchanging herself with the two women, Tang Moyu would consider it.
"You talk as if I'm going to die, Tianyi. Didn't I tell you we will face the problems together? I trust that you would be able to come up with another plan to counter him."
The clock was ticking, and it wouldn't stop just to wait for their next move. The police had already gone to the location where Feng Tianyi had pinpointed the call, but it was a busy café downtown. However, checking the recent CCTV recording of the establishment, Zhu Ziqian was indeed there, leisurely taking his time as he sipped his coffee before calling Tang Moyu.
"Hmm… He really did a good job hiding among the crowd. What a sly man," Tang Moyu said once she and Feng Tianyi watched the footage.
Just as Zhu Ziqian said, Tang Moyu received the coordinates on her phone, which Feng Tianyi immediately decoded. They only have ten hours remaining to find their whereabouts.
