Chapter 769 - This Ends Here (1)

Tang Moyu couldn't stay still, doing nothing as they waited for the police report. She and Feng Tianyi decided to visit the old nurse's home and Cheng Ning's apartment, accompanied by the police to get some clues as to where they could be.

Her brows furrowed when she noticed the condition of the old woman's house. It was clear that she hadn't been home for some time now, given how messy the place was. It couldn't be said the same with Cheng Ning's place, as it was clean and organized just as she left it yesterday.

"There's no sign of any forced entry. Perhaps he's been watching her for some time now and nabbed her outside," a police officer commented once they deemed the place clear and safe.

"But what about Zhu Ziqian's residence? Do we know where he's been staying all these years after his family's death?" Tang Moyu asked as they stepped out of Cheng Ning's apartment.

"He moved out from the house he used to live in with his family. A year after their funeral, he moved to a small apartment downtown and was living on his own. He's been working as a cab driver since then," the police officer answered her.

"What about the old house? Did he sell it or is it still under his name?" Feng Tianyi asked. A special place like that wasn't easy to discard, knowing he had shared so many memories there with his family.

"He didn't. Actually the house was under his wife's name as she inherited it from her parents. No one has been there for years, and no one bothered to trespass there when people started gossiping about it being haunted."

Feng Tianyi shared a knowing look with his wife and nodded. The safest place where Zhu Ziqian could hide was the one where people would less likely think of.

"Officer, do you think we can give it a quick search? Since Zhu Ziqian doesn't have friends he kept in touch with, it only means that his choice of places to hide without being noticed by the public aren't a lot."

"I can arrange another search," he sighed. "We're really running out of time here. We need to find him as soon as possible." Since Zhu Ziqian had abducted another person, the authorities were eager to find him soon to prevent him from taking another innocent civilian.

The couple followed the police in silence and drove where the house was located. Just as what the police officer said, it was in a neighborhood that was far from the busy streets of Shenzhen. Tang Moyu wasn't even aware that there was a place like this within the city.

As they stepped inside the old house, nothing could be seen except the dust being collected, while the furniture was covered with white cloth. Feng Tianyi looked away when he saw the family portrait hanging in the living area. Seeing the happy faces, he felt a bit guilty being the reason why Zhu Ziqian lost his family.

He knew now that if he were in his place, there was no doubt that he would also lose his mind, allowing hatred to consume him from the inside if Tang Moyu and their twins had been f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y taken away from him like that.

Still, it wasn't right for Zhu Ziqian to involve innocent people like he did. No matter how painful it was for him to lose his family, it didn't give him any right to hurt others.

Tang Moyu followed the police officer closely until she noticed footprints that were left just outside the garden of the property.

"Is that new?" she asked the officer. There's no way that it was old, considering that everyone knew this place had been abandoned for some time.

The man turned his head to see what she was talking about. His expression changed immediately when he saw the footprints outside.

"Come here this instance!" he called his partner and pointed at the trail of footprints that were left outside.

Feng Tianyi joined them shortly and saw what they were talking about. The footprints were obviously new, and were quite deep. Given how it rained hard last night, whoever it was would have come afterwards and didn't bother removing the evidence.

Tang Moyu chose to stay with her husband, allowing the police to do their jobs. They pulled out their guns and followed the trail which led them to the shed behind the house. Upon checking, they found a hidden door on the floor that was covered by an old carpet.

They looked at each other and slowly opened the door which revealed a stairway leading downstairs, but they were already too late. The only thing they found were the ropes and the stool that had been used recently.

They came back to Feng Tianyi and Tang Moyu and shook their heads.

"We are too late. They have been here but he transferred them somewhere else," one of them informed the couple.

"Let me see if I can ask other residents if they noticed anyone coming here recently," another one said leaving his partner with the couple.

Tang Moyu glanced at her husband. It was already three in the afternoon, and they were running out of time. They still hadn't found where Zhu Ziqian had taken the women yet.

"I guess we have no other choice but to face him tonight." She rubbed her arm out of habit.

"Moyu…" Feng Tianyi was truly against her idea of switching positions with Cheng Ning and the old nurse.

"I know. I know, but if we don't have any choice left right? The faster we settle this problem, the better," she insisted. "Trust me, Tianyi. There's no way I would allow him to ruin our lives."

Feng Tianyi wanted to say that he didn't care one bit about Zhu Ziqian, and it didn't sit well with him that she was willing to face the man. Hadn't he caused enough trouble for her already?

"I'm coming with you." He made up his mind. "We will end this together."
