Chapter 163 Pit
Chapter 163 Pit
?
A multitude of tiny eyes stared at Zayne as the spider began to move quickly with its legs, running from side to side, as if it didn't know what to do.
"Hmm? What's going on?" Zayne muttered, then the spider finally stopped. The monster came to the edge and opened its jaw wide, dropping the student into the pit.
Zayne frowned, about to attack. Even though he hadn't even made it to Zexiton Academy yet, it was hard for him to watch ordinary students die.
Whooooooooooosh.
Suddenly the spider jumped back, disappearing into the fog, completely dissolving like a ghost. Zayne took a step back, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly and looking around, he knew the spider hadn't retreated.
Zayne exhaled cold steam as his gaze grew sharper, and a crackling sound came from behind him. He turned quickly and swung his sword forward.
He faced the spider's jaw, ready to devour him, as well as its front legs, pointing at him like spears, but the dark blade had already passed through the spider's body, slicing it in two.
[You Defeated the Misty Spider!]
[You got 700 EXP!]
"Hah, that's pretty good, considering I got 5,000 for Selania." Zayne rather put the sword on his shoulder, "However, I think it's about level. The higher the level of the enemy, the more experience I get, right?"
Zayne glanced at his sword as he saw the tiny purple flash on the blade that had been left at the beginning.
[Passive Skill of your weapon - Whispering Shadows, was unlocked!]
[Whispering Shadows
The spirit lurking in your sword has begun to reveal itself, but it's not enough. Continue to kill your opponents, taking their energy so that the spirit can finally awaken.
Progress: 1/999]
Zayne's eyes went wide. He didn't know how many opponents he'd defeated in all his time in Fallen Fate Online, but it was definitely less than even 100.
"Damn... This is going to be so damn hard. Why did Alden decide to give me this particular sword? Am I really the one who can kill a thousand creatures in his eyes?" Zayne was puzzled.
He shook his head and looked to the bottom of the pit where the young man who had only recently been alive now lay.
Zayne's face darkened, "He must have been excited today before the practical class, right? However... now here he is, at the very bottom of this pit, but, what's it for anyway? Some monster making supplies for itself?" Zayne frowned.
The ground shuddered slightly, and small rocks rolled over, nothing serious, but it was enough to send a chill down Zayne's spine as he jumped back sharply.
Crackle.
At the same moment, sharp rows of teeth emerged from beneath the ground as the massive jaws closed in, first devouring the animal corpses, then quickly closing in on Zayne.
Zayne's pupils narrowed as scarlet wings appeared behind him, immediately coming into motion as Zayne shifted to a safe distance.
"What the fuck is going on in this forest?" Zayne's face went pale as a shadow fell over him from a massive creature that kept coming out of a hole.
The creature was long, enough to surround an entire castle. Its body was covered in black scales with sharp ridges as well as its hundreds of legs like a scolopendra. However, the most horrific was its head, without eyes, but with a hideous jaw with several rows of teeth like sharks, but much deeper.
Compared to this monster, Zayne was a mere ant that met the giant, he looked pathetic and helpless.
Whoooooooooooooooosh.
The monster shuddered as its scales made an intimidating crackling sound echoing around, then, the monster appeared abruptly in front of Zayne, giving him no time to react.
"Shit!" Zayne exclaimed, trying to put up a block, but... he just froze. The monster stopped in front of him as if examining Zayne and trying to find something in him.
Zayne was afraid to even breathe, any movement might be too risky, his instincts told him.
The monster turned its head, slowly surrounding Zayne, moving around him like a snake playing with its prey.
'Maybe I should attack...? No, I don't stand a chance against such a giant... In that case, what should I do? Can I just run away or will it catch up and swallow me up?' A multitude of thoughts raced through Zayne's mind, trying to find the right solution.
However, sometimes the right thing to do was to do nothing.
Crackle.
The monster plunged into the ground, quickly disappearing, moving its tail chaotically like a whip that came down on Zayne.
Zayne's eyes went wide, and he swung his sword, blocking the attack, but the momentum was too powerful, throwing him aside.
Blood spurted from Zayne's mouth as he failed to keep his balance and fell over the precipice into an abyss, seemingly infinitely deep.
'No! I can't let that happen!' Zayne inwardly exclaimed as he gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, thrusting it into the wall. He began to slow down, gradually stopping, but in that short period, he managed to go dozens of meters deep.
"Well... Even though I don't get shit, I should probably thank fate that it didn't eat me right now, shouldn't I?" Zayne smiled bitterly, looking up at the blue sky. The end of the pit was high, but Zayne could definitely get up there, though with some difficulty.
Zayne took a deep breath, chose a comfortable position, and jumped forward, thrusting his sword into the wall.
'Almost a whole meter, not bad. Looks like it'll be easier than I thought.' Zayne pondered, preparing for the next jump, but as he lifted his head he got goosebumps.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Out of nowhere, spiders began to crawl into the tunnel, covering the light with their countless bodies, the ring getting narrower as new spiders continued to arrive.
Zayne quickly glanced down, he saw nothing but endless darkness. He gulped, then he looked up.
Now he had only two options, either run or fight.
'I've never been able to escape yet, so... the choice is obvious, right?' Zayne said to himself, as a blue glint appeared in his eyes. He was ready to activate a skill he'd never had to use before.
