Chapter 184

Elaina brought the first-aid kit and followed others to search and rescue in the ruins. They did not have professional equipment, so they could only shout. As long as they heard any response, they stopped to dig people out.

Although they saved many people, the efficiency was not high enough. As time went by, Elaina became anxious but didn’t know what to do.

“Mr. Collins, has the call been put through?” Elaina came over and asked. She had just finished first aid treatment for villagers. In that situation, it was necessary to ask for help as soon as possible.

However, Miguel shook his head disappointedly. “Not yet. This is the only phone in the village. The line has been damaged, and no one can repair it. I’m afraid it can’t be connected for the time being.”

Elaina frowned and looked at the houses in the distance that had not been searched. She felt somewhat sad. “How about sending someone to Cumberland County to ask for help? We can’t go on

like this.”

“I’ve sent someone there. Here is far from Cumberland County. Because of the earthquake, people can only walk there on foot instead of driving a car,” Miguel sighed. It would take a day to walk to Cumberland County.

Elaina was also not optimistic but had no other choices.

“Here are two kids,” someone shouted not far away.

When Elaina heard that, she looked over and said, “I’ll go to save them first.”

After saying that, Elaina ran over to the collapsed house. She asked the villagers beside her, “What’s going on?”

“We heard two kids crying below. It seems to be Sam Dawson’s house. There are four people in his family. No one has come out,” someone replied.

Houses had all collapsed. The villagers could only figure out whose house it was by memories. Although it was not accurate, it was close.

“Call all the people over to save them.”

Elaina was solemn. She walked over and shouted in the direction of the cry, “Lilly, Corey, don’t be afraid. I am coming to save you.”

Elaina’s voice spread throughout the collapsed house, but no one replied. There was only the faint sound of crying.

Elaina was anxious and tried to carry away the stones from the house to save the kids as soon as possible.

Soon, the villagers rushed over to help. Everyone acted quickly and did not talk much. They wanted

to save the kids.

The stones on the house were cleared in no time, but there was another problem.

“Sam and his wife have not replied. The two kids keep crying and can’t come out.” There was a hole allowing one person to go in and out. The villagers looked at it and didn’t know what to do.

If the two kids calmed down, they could get out through the hole. However…

“Can anyone go in and carry them out?” someone asked.

Everyone was silent. Although they wanted to save the kids, they didn’t want to be buried below the house. The aftershocks were not over, and no one knew if there was another strong earthquake.

What if…

“I’ll go,” Elaina said without hesitation.

She was familiar with the kids. They were cute and almost played with her every day. If they died,

Elaina could not accept it.

Seeing that, Miguel stepped forward to stop Elaina. “No, Dr. Gainsford. You must be safe and

sound.”

“I will be cautious,” Elaina insisted. As she spoke, she walked to the hole and bent down to go in.

Miguel was anxious but could do nothing. Finally, he sighed, “Be cautious.”
