Chapter 652: Breaking trust
Noah was incensed and all he saw was red. He was not in his sane mind to realize what he was doing and who he was dealing with at that moment. He did not even care that he was punching his father-in-law. All he had in mind was to kill the man who was trying to sabotage his relationship with his grandfather.
In his fit of anger, he did not see when Aria had pushed her father away from his clutches. He could not control himself in time and ended up kicking her in the stomach with full force.
"Aria..." Ivy shouted in horror when she saw her younger sister being mercilessly kicked. Even Joshua, who had been slow to react, was mortified to see how things had turned out suddenly.
In no time, Aria was lying on the floor as she coughed heavily while her eyes turned red. Her face was ashen and she seemed to be in immense pain.
"Aria.." Oliver himself had not expected his daughter to push him away and bear the brunt of Noah's wrath and his eyes widened in fear. He kneeled beside her and looked at her in worry while Ian had already rushed to help his friend.
Noah was beyond stunned to see Aria lying on the floor, groaning in pain, and even more so when he recalled his kick. It had been powerful and even a strong man would not have been able to stay upright after receiving it, let alone Aria who seemed petite and dainty.
He parted his lips but could not speak a word and he kept staring at Aria, who at that moment had her eyes closed. Noah did not know if she had fainted from the pain or had her eyes closed just like that.
"I..." He licked his lips which had gone dry in fright. He had ever expected to see such a day where he would be the cause of his beloved's pain and he did not know what to do in this situation. His legs refused to move as though he was bound to chains and he stood still as he watched Ian treat Aria.
"Let's take her inside." Ian looked at Ivy for help and everyone understood the meaning behind his words. He had to check her stomach for injuries and he could not do it in front of everyone.
Ian glanced at Noah, who stood frozen like a mannequin before he lifted Aria while Ivy jogged behind him in worry. She did not even spare a look at Noah, who at that time had become insignificant in her eyes.
Oliver waited until Aria was out of sight before he glared hard at Noah. Never had he been this furious at Noah before, not even when he had been punched in the face some time ago. But now, he could not stay composed anymore. His daughter had been harmed by the man she loved. How could he stay still and silent?
"How dare you, Noah? How dare you?" He moiled and closed the distance between them. "That was your lover, my daughter and you dared to hurt her."
On seeing that the tension in the room was only building, Joshua inched closer towards the two men. Already, he had failed to protect the father and the daughter from Noah's wrath. He did not wish to see a bloodbath in front of him.
"I was not angry when you punched me before." Oliver continued, ignoring Joshua's meager attempts from beside him. "I was not livid when you did not believe me. You were right to do so. You trust your grandfather and I understand that it is not easy to believe me. But that did not mean you could harm my daughter, my Aria."
Oliver was now enraged, even more than Noah. But he did not raise a fist at the young man and stood in his place.
"Previously, I was rejoicing that my daughter found an amazing man and I would have nothing to worry about. With you around, she will never be sad. Now, I will have to reevaluate your relationship with her and if you are worthy of her or not." Oliver pursed his lips and did not stop staring daggers at him.
"Even if your grandfather was involved in matters that went completely against my conscience, I knew that you were nothing like him. So, I did mind her being with you. But now, I am not sure. You broke my trust completely. With your volatile mood, I do not think Aria will ever be safe with you."
"Mr. West, it was all a misunderstanding. We can talk about it when Aria is fine." Joshua tried to ease the situation. Things were only turning out to be bad and even his friend's romantic life was at stake. Joshua had no idea how to salvage the situation.
"I do not think your friend here thinks everything here to be a misunderstanding. Moreover," Oliver smiled sarcastically. "I even feel that he does not even repent what he did. In such a situation, I do not think there is anything for us to talk about."
Noah was at a loss for words. He did not know what to do. Heck, he did not even know what to say. Seeing Aria groaning in pain after he kicked her had rendered his brain useless and he stood like a dumb person. He did not even comprehend what Oliver was speaking and what awaited him after this.
"Let me get one thing straight. After today, I do not think I can trust you with my daughter anymore." Oliver pointed his finger at Noah while Joshua stared at the man horrified.
"So, once Ian treats her, I am taking her away from here. I am done staying here and I am done freeloading. Thank you for everything and I will somehow repay your hospitality soon." Oliver did not show any signs of compromising and he glimpsed at Joshua before he walked away.
And the next instant, Noah dropped to his knees and let out an anguish-filled wail.
