Chapter 661: Father-in-law's wrath - Part 1
'What the fuck!!! Grandpa Carter is actually such a man???' Joshua shouted in his mind, his eyes widening in disbelief. 'Why did no one tell me? And, Noah?' He stared at Noah, who all of a sudden had stopped the car.
'Is he alright?' As soon as the thought entered his mind, he face-palmed himself. 'When did I become an idiot? It's obvious that Noah is not fine. Otherwise, he would not have killed those pests in a fit of his anger.'
Even Ian was in shock. From Oliver's words and the evidence he had seen at the port, he more or less had an inkling that the old Carter was somehow involved in the matter. But he had just assumed it to be a misunderstanding. Never in his mind had he expected it to be the truth.
"How did you find out?" Joshua queried from behind, his impatience getting the best of him.
But to his dismay, Noah went back to being silent and surprisingly, he even got off the car, rendering Joshua speechless.
'Am I invisible here? Or did my words fall on deaf ears? Why did he not answer me?' With an aggrieved look, he blinked at Ian with the desire to seek comfort from him. But the man just averted his eyes and to his dismay, he even got off the car.
'What the heck!!! Why are these two men treating me as air? Can they not....'
"If you are done complaining about us in your mind, get off the car. We have reached the destination." Ian knocked at the window and stopped Joshua's thoughts from running wild.
It was only then that Joshua realized where they were and he let out a sheepish smile before he too got off the car.
"Why did you not tell me before?"
Ian just ignored him and followed Noah who seemed nervous all of a sudden. His hands were shaking and sweat trickled down his back even though the weather was pleasant and cool.
Ian did not speak a word and Joshua too shut his mouth. He had tried his best to calm down an agitated Noah all along the way. It now lay upon himself how he would proceed and handle the situation.
The three men entered the elevator ignoring all the looks they were receiving along the way.
"Noah..." Ian pursed his lips as he stared at the increasing number while the elevator ascended.
"Be careful. This matter is quite sensitive. You have already offended Mr. West and if I'm not wrong, even Aria seemed vexed. Please...."
"I know, Ian. I know. I messed up the situation greatly and Mr. West is right at being angry with me. But I will do all I can to appease him. I cannot let Aria leave just like that." Noah stated with determination and the elevator dinged before it yawned open.
Although he has filled with confidence just a moment ago, all of it shattered when he stood in front of Aria's apartment. It was as though his courage committed suicide the moment he reached their destination. His palms turned clammy while his heartbeat quickened. He had not been this nervous and frightened even when he had revealed the truth about her father to Aria.
But now, Noah was beyond anxious and it took him a lot of time to muster all the courage in him.
Meanwhile, the two men stood behind him patiently. They didn't rush him to ring the bell. Even though they knew the pin to the apartment lock, they did not dare use it lest they angered Oliver all the more. He was already fuming. He might soon end up breathing fire like a mad dragon.
Taking deep breaths, Noah finally pressed the bell while the two men sucked their breaths in anticipation.
Fortunately for Noah, it was Ivy who opened the door and she stood flabbergasted to see him in front of her. But soon, her shock turned into anger and she glared at him before she pushed the door to smack his face.
However, Noah was quick enough to stop her and he pushed himself inside, forcing Ivy to step back and release the door. "Ivy, Ivy, listen to me. I..."
"Hmph." Ivy snorted and turned her face away from here. "Noah, go away from here. I am already angry and if you continue to stay here, I might end up beating you with a broomstick." She threatened, only for it to fail miserably.
"If you want to beat me, go ahead and beat me. I was wrong. I...I..." Noah let out a sigh and held Ivy's shoulders, forcing her to face him even if she did not wish to.
"I was wrong. I am sorry." He begged sincerely. Even though he was here for Aria, he still did not forget Oliver and Ivy, who he had hurt deeply with his actions. So, he did not put on any air and conveyed his apology sincerely and honestly.
"I was blinded by my love and respect for my grandfather that I did not think rationally. I know I was at fault and I am here to apologize for what I did. Please, Ivy. Please give me one chance."
Ivy's soft heart melted at his words and she could more or less understand why he had behaved that way. Hey, how would one feel if the closest ones, the one they deeply loved and admired was accused of being involved in unimaginable crimes and even more so when those crimes were as terrifying as organ trafficking?
However, her love for her family overpowered her sympathy for Noah and she folded her hands as she stared back at him, her eyes burning with rage.
"I understand your turmoil, Noah. I really do. Anyone in your place would be distressed. But the way you handled the situation was not right and because of that my sister and my father are injured." She argued and Noah lowered his head immediately in guilt.
"I might even forgive you for what you did over time. And considering how head over heels Aria is with you, she might forget everything and even hug you the moment she sees you now." Noah's face blossomed into a smile as soon as he heard her beautiful words.
"But I cannot say the same about my Dad. Your impression in his mind has turned for the worse and you might have to sweat out a lot to change his opinion of you."
"Ivy..." Noah's face fell like a drooping flower.
"Ivy, who is it?" Oliver entered the hall with a mug of coffee in his hand, only to stop when he saw Noah and the two men standing by the door.
"What are you doing here?" He seethed and placed the mug on the table. "Get out of here."
"Mr. West, I....I..." Noah's lips trembled and words failed to leave his mouth. His mind went blank the moment he saw his future father-in-law. He had never seen Oliver this mad before, at least he had not been at the receiving end. Now, that he was facing his wrath, he did not like the face of the man one bit. He preferred Oliver who treated him like his son instead of an enemy.
"Ivy, what are you doing? Send them away. I do not want any more disturbances in our life." Oliver spat and turned around.
"Mr. West, please." Noah held his hand and stopped him. "Please hear me out. I am here to apologize. I was at the wrong."
"Ohh...I am sorry. I am in no mood to listen to your nonsense. Now, get out of here before I lose my mind completely."
