Chapter 228 - Time To Let Go
Chapter 228 - Time To Let Go
"If you're done ogling and drooling, you can come inside, Alexander," Felicity said, without taking her eyes off the diamond shining between her fingers. Smiling wide, Alexander pulled himself off the doorframe. He didn't miss how Felicity's talented, hardworking staff eyed each other with a knowing look and suppressed their amused smiles. They bowed and left one by one as Alexander walked inside.
Felicity sighed, an unimpressed look directed at her husband. "I don't know how you make them follow your bid without even uttering a word!" she wondered out loud. "I'm the one who signs their paycheck, yet they obeyed your silent command and left without even bothering to take my permission," she accused. Alexander chuckled and pulled her into his arms, planting a kiss on the crown of her head.
"You look tired," Felicity noticed. Scrunching his nose, Alexander shook his head. He loosened his black tie and rolled his sleeves, revealing his forearms. He didn't bother putting on his suit jacket while leaving his office. Felicity stopped doing whatever task she had immersed herself in before he entered and studied her husband's handsome features..
The dark violet shirt he had worn in the morning had wrinkles all over now. It showcased how much Alexander had kept himself busy with his work the whole day. She smiled, recollecting their morning feud when she forced him to wear the shirt with his black suit jacket and trousers because he always prefered wearing black. He had looked devilishly handsome in the attire.
Shoving his hands into the pockets of his black trousers, Alexander walked across the table, pulling the swivel chair to sit. "Who's drooling now?" he asked in an amused tone, smirking at his wife. Felicity grinned and dropped everything on the table, not caring about losing the precious stones one bit. She rushed to hug Alexander. He gladly helped her settle on his lap.
Alexander took off her glasses and put them into his shirt pocket. He brushed the sleeve of his shirt over her chin as if wiping the dust off.
Felicity framed his face with her palms and pressed her lips to his mouth. He hadn't shaved since three days, and she loved how sexy the salt and pepper beard and moustache looked on him. Alexander's eyes crinkled at the corners as his lips stretched into a wide grin. He freed her strawberry blonde hair, which she had tied into a knot bun with the help of a metal claw clip.
Tilting her head to the side, Felicity watched him with adoration while he arranged her hair over her shoulders. "Why are you so beautiful even without makeup and that too at this hour of the day?" Alexander whispered in awe. He wound her long hair around his palms and pulled her closer. Felicity complied when he covered her mouth with his, kissing her slow and deep, savouring the moment.
"Matt will leave for Italy tonight," Alexander said when they pulled away. Felicity nodded, wiping the wetness off his lips with her thumb. She placed another soft kiss at the corner of his mouth before she left the warmth of his embrace. She packed her things into her handbag and grabbed her cell phone.
"Let's visit home, Alexander. I miss our parents," she said. Alexander nodded while collecting the gun from Felicity's desk drawer. He examined the safety lock before placing it in her handbag. He had made sure she carries the gun with her all the time even though he had arranged a group of six bodyguards for her safety who never leave alone.
After that incident fifteen years ago where he had almost lost her, Alexander wouldn't risk a chance with her safety ever again. Felicity had promised him that she would never repeat that mistake and would use her gun if it's ever needed.
"Let Junior and Mike come home. Then, we'll visit our parents," Alexander promised. Felicity frowned in worry. "Mike doesn't like going there, Alexander," she reminded him. Alexander nodded and smiled in reassurance. "Don't worry, Felci. I'll make sure no one he dislikes gets to meet him. I promise he'll never once frown in disappointment or anger. It'll be our happy family get-together," he assured.
Felicity was walking barefooted, and Alexander found her glassy pump shoes with high heels under the table. Crouching down, he helped her slip them on. His eyes travelled upwards following her long legs covered in black trousers paired with ivory coloured silk top. Felicity smiled, ruffling his hair.
"I'm starving, Alexander. Feed me food," she commanded.
Alexander stood to his full height and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He dropped a kiss at her temple and grabbed her handbag. Felicity snapped her fingers standing at the door, and the lights went off. Alexander pulled the door with an automatic lock, shutting it on their way out. Everything at her office was password protected and would open only with her fingerprints.
Alexander's phone vibrated, and he pulled it out from his pocket. It was a message from the hospital, and Alexander didn't expect it at this time.
He paused and frowned while reading the short message. Felicity turned over her shoulder to look at him, and he signalled her to go ahead. He didn't have to instruct the bodyguards what to do as they escorted her to the car.
The message hinted about bad news, and Alexander cursed mentally. He brushed the corners of his mouth with his thumb and index finger while he dialled the doctor's number. Felicity watched through the glass window from inside the car and immediately recognised her husband's nervous trait.
Frowning, Alexander listened to the person speaking on the other end and nodded.
Felicity noticed the lines of worry marring his handsome face while he spoke. His free hand was resting on his waist while he paced beside the car. "No problem, Doc. I'll be there in a while," he said before disconnecting the call. The guard held the door open for him, and Alexander took a deep breath and exhaled, releasing the tension before getting into the car.
"What's wrong? You look tense," Felicity asked as soon as he joined her inside the car. Alexander shook his head as if it was nothing and instructed the driver to take him to the hotel. "We'll have our food, and then we'll make a short trip to the hospital," he said, keeping his tone light.
Felicity wrapped her arms around Alexander's waist and rested her head on his chest. She blinked back her tears and prayed for everything to be alright when they visited the hospital. "I don't want to lose any one of our loved ones again, Alexander," she said, sniffling into his chest.
Alexander rested his chin on her head and draped his arm over her shoulder. "It's just a regular meeting with the doctor. Don't stress yourself so much," he said, rubbing her arm in a soft caress. He hoped for the same.
Felicity had lost her appetite the moment Alexander mentioned the visit to the hospital. Yet, she smiled and ordered her favourite food because she didn't want to add more to Alexander's worries by refusing to eat. Alexander watched while Felicity ate, enjoying the food. She was his strength, his support system, and her smile was enough to recharge his tired soul.
She fed him from her plate, and they ate in comfortable silence, sharing the food.
Alexander dreaded stepping inside as they reached the hospital. Felicity took his hand in hers, interlacing their fingers. "I'm here with you," she said and smiled at him. She knew his phobia for the hospitals never left him, and every time they visited one, she had to remind him that she was alive and still with him.
She led the way to the doctor's office while Alexander walked beside her. She knocked on the door and pulled him inside when he hesitated. She shook hands with the team of doctors and did all the talking while her husband listened to everything, gripping the armrest tightly.
The doctors explained how the patient was suffering, and it was time to end their misery by letting them go.
Alexander lost his temper at that, and he stood kicking the chair in anger.
"I am not wasting so much money for you guys so that you kill your patient," he snapped at the doctors, slamming his fist on the table. The doctors scowled, offended by his choice of words. Felicity jumped to her feet and immediately grabbed Alexander's hand.
She warned him with her eyes to behave, and Alexander scoffed when she apologised to the doctor. "Alexander, they're not going to do anything without our consent. Trust me and let me speak, okay," she assured and convinced him to sit through the meeting.
"We're closely monitoring the patient's progress, and it's not getting any better. The internal pain and suffering have reached the limit where the patient can't bear that ache anymore. It's not easy to live with a damaged brain," the doctor tried to explain.
