Chapter 34 - Sweet Messenger
Chapter 34 - Sweet Messenger
Hunter's voice sounded pretty harsh when he spoke, and it was very evident that her defiance offended him. "Anything and everything that concerns you is my business, and he's lucky that you didn't make him come. Or I would have chopped his dick off by this time. And, Goddess, get this engraved in your little brain. I'm the only man you're ever allowed to make come, and you'll come, only for me," he solemnly declared.
Hera frowned in confusion.
'What nonsense is he talking about?'
"What? Come where?" She asked. Her words painted with utter confusion. Hunter let out a soft chuckle at her clueless tone. Her innocence always made it even harder for him to resist her. He knew she had no idea he was talking dirty. "I don't know, Love.. Anywhere you want. Maybe all over me? Because I surely will come all over you," he said. His voice suddenly made a hundred and eighty-degree turn, from furious barking to sweet velvet music.
Hera only scowled at his bipolar disorder.
Unaware of the hidden meaning in his words, ignorant Hera scoffed. "Huh, what's new in that? You're coming all over me since forever. Did you forget how you turned my life into hell? You're my personal Satan, after all," she said, adding extra bitterness to her tone. "I'm just waiting for the day when you'll get out of SPALEV High. That day I'll get rid of you permanently," Hera said, expecting her bitter words to hurt him.
Contrary to her expectation, Hunter chuckled softly, not at all affected by her bitter tone. "Keep dreaming, Goddess, because that day will never come. Trust me when I say, you'll end up marrying me no matter what and my heart is your final destination. Like it or not, that's where you'll reside for the rest of your life," he said, voice dripping with amusement.
He sounded so confident, Hera wished she could spit on his smug face.
'Did he think I'm still that five-year-old naive innocent girl he can manipulate with his charm?'
She wanted to voice out her thoughts, but instead, she asked, "What do you want, Lucifer? Why did you call?"
"Did you receive my gift?" Hunter asked.
Of course, she did. A short, low "hmm" was her only reply. Hera couldn't help but blush as she remembered his message. Suddenly her face turned into crimson red, and she silently thanked God that it wasn't a video call and he couldn't see her blushing.
"So, did you find the Sweet Messenger already?" He asked in a gentle tone. Meanwhile, Hera's heart skipped a beat before shooting up, skyrocketing in full speed. She could almost see his arrogant smirk.
'Asshole, he knows I'd read his message!'
Hera didn't know how to answer his question. Panicking, she put him on hold and threw the phone on the bed. She was furious at herself for blushing at the mention of his messages. She couldn't deny that her heart was a crazy mess and her brain a nervous wreck. She needed something to distract her racing heart, and Hera sat on the floor, ignoring the fact that Hunter was still on the phone.
The sweet box caught her attention, and she thought anything that could divert her thoughts from him would be a welcome distraction. She got lost in her thoughts reminiscing about those yummy chocolate desserts she enjoyed devouring last night.
'How heavenly they tasted!'
That Easter Egg sweet she chose was red, juicy strawberries filled with melted chocolate inside. Finally, she had found the Sweet Messenger and read the message after eating the chocolaty strawberries.
"Goddess Hera,
You're the Strawberry, and I am the cream. Let me lie in your bosom so I can melt around you.
And now that you've eaten my Strawberry it's only fair you let me eat yours. I'm dying to bite that little Strawberry.
P.S There are three Sweet Messengers in total."
Once she read the message, Hera sighed in mock exhaustion as if it was a punishment that she had to eat those sugary treats, where in reality she was floating on cloud nine.
"Oh, that's just great! Now I've to find two more sweet messengers. And what strawberry the Idiot wants to eat? I don't have any," Hera scowled, not having any clue. Then a smile stretched across her face when she reread the message. Hunter had written, "Now that you've eaten my strawberry," he was so sure that she would read the messenger note only after eating the sweet.
"You know me so well, Hunter," she had said in an impressed tone.
Rummaging through the box, Hera moved on to find the next one. She chose two more sweets which looked special from the rest. She unwrapped the first one which was full of cherries, coated with vanilla frosting. Hera popped them into her mouth one by one without wasting any time. And of course, she'd chosen the right one. It had his message inside.
"Kiss you, think about you,
Hug you, drool over you,
Miss you, dream about you,
These are the things
I can do anytime,
Anywhere and all day long.
I Love You, Hera Hunter.
P.S. I knew you would pop them into your mouth without wasting any time. Honestly, Love, I know a better way to stuff that little mouth of yours ;-)
That message ended with a winking emoticon. Hera frowned, thinking about what he'd written with a wink. He was talking in riddles, and she had no idea what that last sentence meant. She ignored it soon enough as the tasty juice of cherries coated her taste buds meanwhile rereading the message.
That "kiss you, hug you, miss you, with an I love you" made her blush once again, and Hera could feel her cheeks getting hot. Not that it's the first time he'd said I love you to her. He'd been telling that to her ever since they kissed in that church for the first time. Sadly, that fantasy she once believed in was nothing more than a deceiving illusion now. Yet, here she's, blushing like a bloody bride over his bullshit charade.
Something clenched inside, and Hera couldn't help but feel vulnerable. Her emotions still danced around his very name. His words touched her heart, reaching deep down to her core.
'Why, Hunter? Why do you still hold all the reins of my heart?'
Suddenly, she heard the shrill sound of the phone ringing behind her, and she jumped out of her short flashback like a startled rabbit. Hera remembered putting Hunter's call on hold. He'd to disconnect the line and call her again. Her eyes widened at the realisation as she knew he would be angry. Attempting to swallow the dryness in her throat as well as her nervousness, she picked up the phone and received his call.
Her hold on the phone tightened, and she sat on the bed, clutching her heart with her other palm. To her relief, Hunter didn't ask for any explanation as if he understood why she'd put him on hold.
"Don't tell me, Goddess, you ate the whole box actually in one go! You know right, all you've to do is check the wrappers to see the message? You don't have to eat a box full of sweets," Hunter said, and a soft, low-toned chuckle followed, invading Hera's ear. Taunting, mocking, humiliating, or whatever he was doing, she should've at least known that he's laughing at her expense.
But the only thing her brain could grasp and react to was his amused chuckle which sounded like soothing, melodic music, and Hera resisted the urge to hum along with the rhythm of his laugh.
'It's so not fair he's good at everything without even trying. Why God? Why?'
Hera scolded herself inwardly for getting distracted by that sexy sound of his laughter, and she tried to remember what he was saying. Oh, right, about eating those sweets. He was insulting her, wasn't he? Hera had nothing to retort because he was right. She almost ate the whole box of sweets.
The silence stretched, and Hera did not attempt to break it.
'What should I do if he asks about that "I love you" message?'
She silently sent a prayer to the universe to save her from this awkward encounter. He's going to grill her with his arrogance if he came to know how ridiculously his message made her blush. She didn't need him to humiliate her any further. She's not ready to face this embarrassment.
"Goddess?" Hunter called her questioningly, and she quickly composed herself. It's a good thing that it wasn't a video call and she felt glad that he couldn't see her flushed face.
"Tell me, Love, How was it? Did you enjoy the taste of my big Sweet Messenger?" Hunter awaited her reply while Hera grimaced and made a sound of gagging as if she didn't enjoy eating those heavenly sweets.
She wouldn't want to appreciate his sweet efforts, would she now?
