Chapter 89: Boarding the ship
"Come on children let's go" A man got up and started walking, followed by two small children. A boy and a girl. "It's been a while since I got so much money! We'll have some meat today!" The man was a simple hunter and made his money by hunting in the sea. The children were ecstatic about hearing the news.
"Ohh? That's an interesting talk, old man. If you have so much money then you have to give us our share." Suddenly, five men came out of a dark alley. They were all young, not more than 20 years old.
"Run!" When the man saw them, blood left his face. Who didn't know these five men, disciples of the blood sect? They terrorized this port city for a week now. He didn't have any choice but to let his children escape.
"You can't leave that easily. Children fetch quite the price on the black market!" The leader of the men didn't seem intent on letting them leave. With the money the man had and the hopeless children, he would be making quite the sum of money.
The children were smart. As soon as they heard their father, they turned back and started running. Their father was a hunter, so his physical ability was high, yet he was no match for cultivators. He could only but them a couple of seconds before being tossed aside. The men would be coming back for him when they catch the children.
"Kyaaa!" The little girl's voice sounded. The man's heart leaped out of his throat with fear. His family was going to be sold as slaves.
"Who the hell are you?!" the leader, who should be laughing, was asking someone a question. The hunter did his best to look up. He saw a man no older than those disciples, with something on top of his head. 'Is that a slime?!!' The man was bewildered by what he saw.
"Are you okay? Sorry I didn't look in front of me." The young man helped the little girl up. She couldn't help but feel safe with him. "Please help us!!" She had tears in her eyes, and her younger brother was sobbing.
"He can't help you! We're from the Blood sect, no one would be able to oppose us!" The leader of the young men started babbling on and on about how he was part of the Blood sect, until.
"You're not from the Blood sect. Its members all have a tattoo of a drop of blood on their left cheek." The men heard him and unconsciously reached out to touch their empty left cheeks. "I was kidding. It's actually the right cheek." This time they were looking like idiots, with both of their hands on their faces.
"You don't have to be afraid of them. They're only idiots that like to touch their cheeks" The young man spoke to the two young children. When they heard him, they looked at the group of men and started laughing.
"You bastard!" The young leader knew that he couldn't stay in the port city now. His scheme was discovered. Many people heard them, but simply chose to hide or run away at the beginning. All five people rushed at Ed, trying to get revenge.
"You're a danger after all, so". Before anyone could understand what had happened, the five men lying unconscious on the ground with red bruises on their forehead. No one could see what the young man did. They only knew that he was the one who did it.
"Eat this" The young man made his way to the injured hunter and gave him a pill. As soon as he ate it, he felt that his injuries were healing. "Thank you so much!" The hunter kept thanking the young man. He had just saved him and his family. "How can I repay you?!"
"Well, you can tell me how to get to the ship leaving for the Central Continent." The man only asked for directions as payback. The hunter happily told him. "If I may ask, what's your name?" The hunter asked.
"Edward," Ed told him and made his way to the ship. What he didn't know was that a certain family's hero would forever be called Edward for generations to come.
Ed spent two weeks before he reached the Port city. The distance was quite long, so he couldn't reach as fast as he thought. Fortunately for him, ships heading to the Central Continent were always present. Ed went ahead to the ship and bought a ticket for boarding. Every ship could take about 500 passengers, so they had to count them using tickets. Ed had to buy two tickets because of Suika. He didn't want to make her stay in card form, so he chose to pay for her. It was only 1.000 gold coins each anyway.
Ed boarded the ship and looked for his room. The ship was huge. Big enough to be called a cruise ship. It was made from metal, making it sturdy. Ed didn't know how it was able to move with all the weight but guessed it had something to do with magic. Every passenger had their private room, but you could ask for shared rooms. Ed and Suika obviously stayed at the same room.
Every time a ship departed, they would have at least one Heavenly Establishment staff on board. The way to the CC was not a safe one, as sea monsters would appear every time. This was the reason why the tickets were very expensive. Ed was tired from his journey, so he took a bath as usual and slept. He didn't even eat. Nor did he care about the scenery of the trip. All he wanted was to sleep.
The ship needed three days to reach the CC. Ed had enough time to make his plans before he got there. He was also relieved since he met a lot of people posing as Blood sect members. This meant that Blood sect is truly looking for members. This guaranteed that Ed can take his time leveling up. Without having to worry about his friends and family.
Ed's thoughts were running wild, as his eyes closed shut.
