Chapter 150: The Unlikely Set-up

"Let's start with the most basic practices. Here's a leaf. Stick it to any part of your body," Kai instructs and hands the trio three dry orange leaves.

"Sensei... of course, we know this practice!" Kurenai is the first to frown but she accepts the leaf nonetheless and sits down like others. Placing the leaf on the center of their foreheads, the trio soon meditates as the leaf remains stuck to their heads. Kai's voice drifts into their ears, "Today is all about the basics so keep it up for 30 minutes."

To the young girls, keeping the chakra concentrated in the center of their foreheads wasn't as hard as staying still for 30 minutes but they had to stay like this. Kai has never given them any reason to not believe his teachings. Previously, Kurenai especially felt a little envious that others from the same batch as her had already started to train in specialized Jutsus but by now, she is calmer... relatively. From 100 points of impatience and eagerness to prove herself to maybe... 98 points of impatience. Her eagerness to prove her worth, however, still is a perfect 100.

Not paying them any attention, however, Kai sneaks out a small handbook from his kunai pouch. Since he doesn't use Kunai but somewhat thicker senbons, he has a lot of space in this pouch for a handbook.

Kai begins to read through it with a rather perverted smirk. On the spine of the book, one could read– Icha Icha Paradise.

Another creation of Jiraiya and a rather popular one. The previous book he wrote– the Tale of a Gutsy Shinobi– was meant to be a part of a grand epic but...

Jiraiya REALLY isn't the kind of guy to write super serious stuff. No doubt he is a serious fellow. A few can rarely retain their innocence after war and bloodshed, but Jiraiya thrives on writing about slutty mothers, innkeepers, wives, daughters that came of age, and stuff like that.

And because of this passion, his second book instantly attracted a lot of attention and love. And unlike what others may assume, this book that he published a few weeks ago is not only owned by men but a large number of women, too.

Kai, of course, got a personally signed copy from Jiraiya. But he isn't the only one with this rare copy. Nono got one, too, since it could be argued that she is more invested in this form of literature.

"My man... others would stop you from aiming high. But if you can't sleep with her, there is always her mother. Not to mention... Mitsuro has been constantly sending signals."

Just as he got to the good part, Kai frowns and looks in the direction of the Uchiha Clan's compound. His scowl only lasts for a moment, however, and he quietly retracts his gaze.

'The frequency of that cum-man checking Uchiha clan has started to decrease. Not only the Uchiha but it also took a round around the Senju Compound without anyone else taking notice. Even I only found out because of the daily surveillance through my Sage Mode.'

Even before Dan Kato's betrayal, Kai would spread his senses to make sure nobody is trying to commit suicide by aiming their Kunais in his direction. What can he do? Kai is a nice guy. Of course, he likes to prevent suicide.

He would pick the offenders and throw them down the building with his own efforts instead.

Not paying attention to the creature made of nature energy and a deceptively suspicious white substance, Kai turns his attention to the holy scriptures in front of him. The smut market in the literature category is quite lively in this world but Jiraiya's work manages to stand out despite the competition. It shows how competently well this book is authored.

Time passes on in a blink of an eye and Kai sees his genins opening their eyes one by one. By now, however, the book is safely tucked into his kunai pouch once more. A Sensei absolutely cannot show this side of himself to his students, no?

"Well done," Kai smiles, "Now let's try walking on the tree."

"Eh?" Kurenai and Shizune look surprised as Kai chuckles, "I know it's not taught in the academy but it's not different than sticking a leaf to your body. Only this time, you stick a tree to your feet."

"I will do it first," Konan steps out and glances at her teammates. Her stare is quite plain but she purposely sets it a bit longer on Kurenai which makes the dark-haired girl a little more annoyed than usual. Konan does know a lot more than Kurenai and Shizune. She has her basics built well but due to focusing too much on origami, her development has remained slower when compared to Nagato or Yahiko.

The short-blue-haired cinnamon walks up to the tree and slowly starts to walk on it and continues by stepping under a branch and standing upside down.

After flipping midair and landing, Konan smirks, "I can even walk on water." josei

Of course, these words are directed at Shizune and Kurenai. The former is undoubtedly impressed while the latter does not let this challenge go unprovoked and she walks upto the tree that Konan climbed.

Shooting a sidelong glare at the 'show-off', Kurenai takes a deep breath and affirms, "I can walk on the tree, too."

Her actions, however, are anything but confident. She raises and presses a foot against the bark of the tree before injecting chakra and building traction. Once she feels a little more confident, Kurenai leans forward and steps up with an explosive jump. Both her feet touch the midsection of the tree but...

They aren't stuck together.

From the explosive movement to the lack of control due to anxiety, and the need to do better landed Kurenai on the ground butt-first. Scowling, she quickly gets up only to Konan snickering.

"Shut up!" Kurenai scoffs.

"Why should I?" Konan shrugs, "I actually did manage to climb the tree on my first try when I started to train but even had I failed, it would not look as bad as flopping back on the ground."

Kurenai grits her teeth with metaphorical flames building in her gaze but Kai felt his attention is better deserved by the last one of the trio and he gestures for Shizune to step up.

"Alright, no quarreling until you can actually kill each other. Kurenai, keep on practicing. Shizune, start your practice, too."

Kurenai huffs and still glares at Konan when Kai's words instantly make Shizune and Kurenai feel a little bad.

"As for you, Konan, while they are learning how to walk on trees, I have special training for you."

Konan's amber pupils light up and she nods eagerly.

Kai smiles sincerely in return and he unseals the storage seal on his hand to reveal a pair of ankle weights.

"You get to walk on trees... with these weights. Good job."

His words instantly shock the trio and suddenly, Kurenai is the snickering one while even Shizune looks a little sorry.

On the other hand, feeling distraught, Konan sighs and simply picks up the ankle weights from his hands and wears them. Truly... what else should she have expected? Her boss is a grind freak. If you can do something... do it again, with weights!

Adhering to this rule, Kai is constantly bulked with almost 20000 kilos casually from the special chakra ore mesh shirt under his tunic to various other weights on his body. He can carry a lot more, but that expends too much. This amount allows him to balance the chakra recovery and expenditure since he does need to keep his soles layered with chakra to pad the pressure from his body or his house would have been long destroyed.

Just like that, they began to train for the day. Kurenai and Shizune do eventually get a hang around walking on trees but then came jogging, skipping and so much more. Konan, too, had to truly give her all this time due to the additional weight but Kurenai could not keep on smiling about Konan's plight for long.

Being smart and intelligent has its own disadvantages.

After all, Kurenai soon realizes that the rest of the team will be blessed with weights soon enough...

Hiashi and Hizashi are the two unlikeliest individuals to ever be present in the same room in a public setting. Ever since Hizashi became one of the three advisors alongside Yami Uchiha and Aburame's clansman, he and his wife had their Caged Seals removed. After all, advisors of the Hokage cannot be in control of any other individual no matter what.

Even the Hyuga Clan wouldn't be able to come out unscathed if they tried acting unreasonably.

But this also proved one thing.

Traditions are fickle.

If the Hyuga Clan's Elders did follow the code to the last T then Hizashi and his wife would not be free temporarily. After all, the tenure of an elder is not more than 10 years for the sake of keeping corruption at bay that comes from this position.

This also gave hope to those who have been desiring a change since a long time ago.

The Hyuga Clan is divided into Main Family and the Branch Family.

Unlike what others may follow blindingly, Hyuga does not practice inbreeding constantly. There are a few instances, but largely the clan has many outsiders married into the clan. But if these outsiders marry into the Branch Family, they must be prepared to have the caged seal whether they have a Byakugan or not.

This, by itself, cuts off a large proportion of prospects for the Branch Family members. Unlike the Main Family line, who don't have such issues, the branch family's members thus often find themselves in a relationship with their distant relatives.

Although ordinary civilians may be fucking their way to downfall by practicing inbreeding, the Hyuga clan is one of the most 'noble' clans. for a reason. All those with the Hyuga blood in their veins have the talent of chakra without a shadow of a doubt. This is a rare achievement of a bloodline that even the Uchiha and Senju cannot boast of. In fact, only two other clans are publicly known to have such an achievement.

The Uzumaki Clan.

The Kaguya Clan of Kirigakure.

Arrogance runs deep in the majority of the men in the clan. Being strictly patriarchal, the clan has diminished the value of men over time even if a few from the clan doesn't feel that it is right. Despite their natural talents, the kunoichis of the Hyuga Clan are eventually trained to be loyal and demure partners. Those with exceptional skills are given the task to protect the prodigals of the Main Family.

Today, Hizashi and Hiashi are present in the same room.

Instead of the Hokage meeting them, however, it's a brown-haired ordinary-looking man with a somewhat pale countenance similar to the Hyuga but strikingly black pupils. His slightly sunken cheeks and the cigarette in his mouth would reveal how different he is from the 'strict' and 'noble' Hyuga Members who would even feel repulsed at the thought of blowing a cigarette but...

Here they were.

And the Hokage's information certainly made the Hyuga siblings glance at this man with complicated emotions.

A/N: It's still unsure if things changed in Boruto for the Hyuga Clan but it's like they are being sidelined too much despite their past relevance since many in Konoha, after the movie Naruto the Last Movie should fully understand how dangerous this clan can be. And... that's why I never understood why the Black Zetsu wouldn't help create a scenario where most of the Hyuga also die. But then again... Hyuga themselves are self-harming so there's that.
