Chapter 1047

Estelle pulled herself out of the man’s arms and headed for the bathroom.

She knew this place like the back of her hand, even the scent of the shampoo was familiar. Standing under the shower, letting the water hit every inch of her body, her mind was a whirlpool of confusion and anxiety.

Why were they still entwined in this dance, when they had already broken up?

After her shower, she wandered into the walk–in closet and opened the wardrobe. Her clothes were still there,

Some she had worn before, others were new.

Looking at the new clothes, Estelle’s heart skipped a beat, a sharp pang of unspoken pain hit her.

She picked out a simple T–shirt and jeans, slipped them on, and walked through the master bedroom. She didn’t even glance at the man on the bed as she left.

“Just gonna skedaddle without saying goodbye?” came the man’s languid voice from behind her.

Estelle paused but didn’t turn around. Her voice was a little hoarse, “I didn’t want to disturb your sleep.”

The man was leaning against the headboard, his tall and muscular frame appearing lazy and incredibly charming at that moment.

He got up at her words, wearing only a pair of loose lounge pants, with faint marks visible on his chest and shoulders.

He came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her and whispered in her ear, “I’ve taken care of you for two days and nights, and you’re just gonna waltz out without giving me anything in return? At least you could leave me ten bucks!”

He was joking about the first time Estelle left him ten dollars and bolted.

Estelle managed a smile, but it was tinged with coldness, “Jonathan, what did you give Gwen for her part in your little play?”

Jonathan’s eyes hardened, “What are you talking about?”

Estelle pulled away from him, “What’s going on between you and Gwen? If you’re not lovers, then why did you lie to me? Was last night a trap you set up together?” “Of course not!” Jonathan responded instantly.

“Of course not what? You’re not lovers, or you didn’t know Gwen was setting a trap?” Estelle shot back coldly.

Jonathan found himself backed into a corner. If he admitted to being lovers with Gwen, he would lose Estelle for good. If he denied it, would she truly believe that he was unaware of Gwen’s setup?

Jonathan, just stop it,” Estelle’s gaze was icy, “Whatever your reasons are for coming back into my life, please, just end it here. If you feel bad about the past, because of me being Stella, there’s no need. If you still have feelings for me!”

Estelle’s voice faltered, then she lifted her gaze to meet his, “I’ll tell you this, from the day you broke up with me, there was no chance we could ever get back together.”

Jonathan’s eyes wavered, “Can’t I be forgiven?”

“Yes!” Estelle looked lost, “You shattered my faith in love.”

“I get that, how could I not?” Jonathan looked at her earnestly, “But I also know that you need me. You were sober last night, weren’t you?”

Caught off guard, Estelle felt a rush of embarrassment replace her icy demeanour. She stepped back, “Jonathan, don’t push it!”

“Where am I pushing?” Jonathan stepped closer, “I saved you out of good intentions last night, and you’re giving me the cold shoulder after getting dressed. Who’s the one being unreasonable here?”

Estelle was cornered.

Jonathan reached out to cradle her chin, his gaze wounded, “Ask yourself, would I really team up with Gwen to deceive you?”

Estelle’s long lashes fluttered, unable to reply.

Jonathan’s heart pounded as he saw her eyes turn red, the bright orbs filled with unshed tears, and the marks he left on her neck. He whispered, “If you don’t want to love me, can we just be friends like we were in the beginning?”

His gentle voice closed in on her as he softly kissed her moist lips, “We need each other, I’ll make you happy like before, okay?”
