Wilma bounded up the stairs, asking Estelle what she fancied for dinner.

Estelle replied with a smile, “No need for the dinner fuss; we’re heading out soon.”

Jonathan looked at Estelle and said, “Leaving from here to your place tomorrow morning won’t interfere with your class with Henson!”

Estelle just shook her head and said, “No, we’re leaving now.”

Jonathan, though dying to stay, didn’t force her. He followed her wish and headed back to the city.

Seeing Estelle’s departure, Wilma packed up all the pastries she made and said, “Have these on the road.”

“Thank you.”

Estelle gave a hug to the dog and bid farewell to Wilma and Mr. Wagner.

Wilma, with a tinge of reluctance, reminded Jonathan, “Bring ma’am around more when you’re free, and give me a ring before you come next time. I’ll whip up more.”

“Sure.”

Jonathan replied nonchalantly, took the bag of pastries from Estelle, and left with her.

As the car pulled away, Estelle could still see Wilma and Mr. Wagner standing in front of the villa in the rearview mirror.

Descending from the mountain, Jonathan turned his head and asked, “What do you want for dinner?”

“You’re not busy?” Estelle, enjoying the mountain breeze, chuckled, “I heard you got a call; there’s a party tonight. Just drop me off; I can bring these pastries back for Kya.”

“I can ditch any party!” Jonathan’s eyes flashed with deep affection as he smiled.

“No need; I want to get back early anyway. I still have two design drafts unfinished.” Estelle responded.

Jonathan paused, then nodded, “Alright.”

The ride from Maple Street to Sunset Ridge was smooth; they arrived within an hour.

The car pulled up at the bottom of the building. Estelle got out, turned around, and said gently with a smile, “Drive safe!”

“See you tomorrow!” Jonathan replied with a grin.

Estelle waved and left with the pastries.

Jonathan watched Estelle retreat back; the smile faded from his face, and his eyes filled with melancholy. He thought, was there really no way they can go back to what they were?

Even though she didn’t reject him and even though she’d lose herself in his kisses, when the kisses ended, there was still an insurmountable barrier between them, like a mist separating them.

She was so absolute, so final, deleting him from her heart after they broke up!

Estelle returned home, only to find Emily and Kya gone. A call revealed they were out grocery shopping.

After hanging up, Estelle went upstairs, opened the door, and froze at the sight of the man in the living room.

“Surprise, babe!”

Manley Scott lounged on the couch, his eyes sparkling and a seductive smirk on his lips.

“Too thrilled to react? Come on over.” Manley frowned, then stood up and said, “Never mind, I know you never make the first move-I’ll come to you; just stay put!”

As soon as Manley finished his words, he stepped up to Estelle and enveloped her in a warm hug.

“Babe, I’ve missed you!”
