Chapter 1293

Emily flashed a grateful smile, “Thank you, Mr. Lamont”

“Just call me Jonah,” Jonathan grinned back warmly.

“Alright then!” Emily cheerfully agreed, before heading back to the kitchen.

As soon as she turned around, her smile faded. Her previous encounter with Charlie had been far from pleasant and utterly awkward. Plus, Charlie was pissed at her So, she decided it was best to avoid him for a while.

Jonathan plonked himself on the living room couch and shot a text to Charlie, “What did you do to piss off Emily again?”

Charlie texted back promptly. “Did she say something to you?”

“Don’t sweat it, she didn’t spill anything”

After a while, Charlie pinged again, “Where are you?”

Tm hanging out with Estelle,” Jonathan replied.

He didn’t specify where, but Charlie knew from the fact that he was with Estelle that they were probably at Emily’s place.

From Jonathan’s earlier remarks, Charlie deduced that Jonathan had intended to invite him, but Emily had vetoed it.

At the bar, Charlie sat with his phone, his face betraying no emotion, but internally, he was seething.

Was Emily upset because he’d lost his temper? Did she even pause to think why he was so frustrated?

Likely not. She seemed oblivious, unaware of those who truly cared for her. If she wanted distance, so be it. He was worried he might snap at her again, anyway

However, he was still suffocating under a cloud of frustration and misery.

Monday

After a moming full of meetings, Emily went to the cafeteria alone for lunch as usual since Charlie was out.

When Charlie returned in the afternoon, Tracy went to his office to hand him a few documents that needed his signature. She then reported. “Frank’s Colin is hosting a dinfier tonight to celebrate the successful collaboration between our two companies”

Charlie nodded indifferently, looking at the documents in his hand. He said calmly, “Get Emily in here.”

“Sure thing!” Tracy agreed quickly and left.

Soon, Emily walked in, standing a meter away. “Mr. James”

Charlie lifted his eyes to glance at her, paying particular attention to the scar on her forehead. It was barely noticeable now.

He lowered his gaze and asked in a flat tone, “Are you still mad at me?”

“No” Emily quickly replied. Tve never been mad at you!”

Charlie sneered internally, “If you’re not mad, why didn’t you invite me to your gathering?”

Emily was taken aback and remained silent.

Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it, her eyes tightened, and she quickly silenced it.

Charlie watched her with a cold smirk, “Why aren’t you answering your phone? Are you afraid I’ll interrupt you?”

Emily bit her lip. “It’s not what you think!”

“Really?” Charlie’s gaze grew colder. He ordered, “Answer it!”

Emily took a deep breath and answered Martin’s call in front of Charlie, “Dr. Martin!”

“Are you available tonight? Let’s have dinner Martin proposed with a gentle smile, initially wanted to ask you out this weekend, but I got caught up with a couple of surgeries.”
