Chapter 238

Estelle sensed danger, blinked, and immediately shook her head. “Of course not! I’ll always be on my guard!”

Jonathan still felt uneasy. Always being on guard meant always having him on her mind, right?

Estelle didn’t want to talk about Manley anymore, so she changed the subject. “Where did you come from?”

Jonathan replied unhappily, “What do you think?”

Estelle knew he had an important business meeting tonight, so she immediately let go of him and stepped back, saying, “You better hurry back. I’ll be fine. Even if Manley calls me again, I won’t go.”

Before she could finish speaking, the man reached out and pulled her back into his arms, speaking softly, “It’s pretty much done. I left the rest to Chuck, so I don’t need to go back.”

Estelle felt at ease staying in his arms, her heart settled.

After a moment of silence, Jonathan picked up Estelle, kissed her on the lips, and whispered, “Shall we go home?”

Estelle shook her head. “I still have to wait a bit longer.”

She was here to work, and leaving early would create a bad impression on others.

Jonathan was a bit puzzled. “With your abilities, you could find a better part time job. Why do you insist on staying here?”

Estelle didn’t want to lie to him, but she couldn’t tell the truth either, so she buried her head in his neck and muttered, “I want to find a part–time job that starts in the evening.”

Jonathan frowned. “Why?”

“I have trouble getting up in the morning.”

Jonathan was speechless.

Well, he could accept that reason. After all, her difficulty waking up was partly his fault!

The next day was Saturday, and as soon as Estelle got out of bed, she received a message from Emily asking her to come downstairs for breakfast.

Ten minutes later, Estelle went to knock on Emily’s door.

Emily came to open the door, saw Jonathan was there too, and wasn’t surprised. She shyly smiled and warmly invited both of them inside.

Since Jonathan’s parents had returned, Jonathan had practically been living at the Royal Mansion, and the opportunities for them to meet had become more frequent.

Emily was open–minded about Estelle’s relationship with Jonathan. In her eyes, Jonathan was handsome and wealthy, a perfect match for

Estelle.

Estelle changed into slippers and went to the kitchen with Emily to help with the breakfast. Meanwhile, Jonathan went to check on Charlie.

Charlie was sitting in a wicker chair on the balcony, basking in the sun. His knees were covered with a thin blanket, and the white gauze on his head gleamed in the sunlight.

Jonathan leaned against the door, smiling faintly. “So you’re already experiencing retirement life?”

Charlie nodded. “I suddenly discovered that life like this isn’t bad. You should learn from me and not indulge in those vain pleasures all the time. Be careful not to overstrain yourself.”

Jonathon scoffed. “Learn from you? Learn to get beaten up?”

Charlie frowned. “Can you stop making fun of me? If it weren’t for me last night, you must be regretting somewhere now!”

Jonathan’s face darkened at the mention of last night’s events, and he turned to look out the window in irritation.

Seeing the change in his expression, Charlie asked, “Does Manley really like Estelle?”

Jonathan shot him a glance. “Do you think that’s possible? Can you ever fall for a woman?”

“No way!” Charlie immediately shook his head. “Then is he using Estelle against you?”

Jonathan’s eyes were chilly. “He’d better stay away from Estelle, or else I’ll make sure he goes back to M Country and never sets foot in J City again!”

Charlie laughed, “And you? Have you fallen for Estelle?”

Jonathan was about to speak when Estelle suddenly knocked on the door and said from outside, “Breakfast is ready!”

In an instant, the hostility ernanating from Jonathan disappeared. He turned around, ignoring Charlie, and followed Estelle to the dining room. Charlie snickered, muttering to himself, “He doesn’t even care about his brother when he sees Estelle. And he says he hasn’t fallen for her?”

After the meal, Estelle helped Emily clean up and went back upstairs. Emily prepared medication for Charlie to take, and then changed the dressing on his forehead wound.
