Chapter 856

Realizing that Norah was no longer an employee and was just visiting friends, Damian didn’t stop her from going upstairs.

Norah went upstairs and was relieved to see the living room was decently clean, unlike the mess it used to be, and gave a nod of approval.

Xavier’s door was slightly ajar Norah, hoping to give him a little scare, didn’t make a sound and pushed the door open. But as soon as she opened the door, she locked eyes with Xavier.

Xavier was sitting on his bed playing games. Upon seeing Norah, his eyes flashed with surprise.

Norah, however, was frozen in place. She hadn’t seen him in days and had been thinking about him nonstop. Now that she was seeing him, she couldn’t help but feel a lump in her throat.

After a few seconds of silence, Xavier asked nonchalantly, “What brings you here?”

Norah walked in with a smile, “Just wanted to check on you!”

Xavier quit his game, gave a light smile and said, “No need to worry about me, my injuries have almost healed. I just didn’t go downstairs because Zachary and the others were being too noisy!”

“Same here,” Norah folded her hands and laughed, “I was bored, so I came out with some friends and decided to drop by.”

“Just say hi to Damian and the others and then you should leave,” Xavier suggested.

Norah frowned, “Why, I just got here and you’re already kicking me out?“:

Xavier lit a cigarette, “I’m just worried about how your family would react if they knew you were here again.”

Norah’s face flashed with discomfort, “My uncle just doesn’t want me working here, but he didn’t say I can’t visit you guys.”

Xavier looked at her, his eyes seemingly piercing through her.

Norah felt a bit guilty under his gaze and quickly changed the subject, “I thought you were supposed to cut back on smoking!” “Starting tomorrow.” Xavier responded nonchalantly.

“Start now!” Norah huffed, standing up to grab the cigarette from his hand, “No more smoking!”

Xavier dodged her hand and grabbed her wrist with his other hand, “Norah, quit it!”

“You’re the one being stubborn!” Norah insisted, trying to snatch the cigarette from his hand.

Suddenly, Xavier grunted.

Norah was startled and immediately looked at his lower back, asking anxiously, “Did I hurt you?”

Xavier had only intended to scare her, but seeing her panicked eyes, they both froze. In her eyes, he saw genuine concern and worry: Norah was also taken aback by her own intense reaction.

After a moment of silence, Xavier let go of Norah’s hand, leaned back on his bed and smiled, “I’m fine, I was just messing with you.

“That’s good to hear!” Norah also instinctively backed away, her cheeks slightly flushed. She stammered, “Uh, smoking really isn’t good for your health.”

“I know, but it’s a hard habit to break.”

Another pause filled the room, the strange tension in the air making them both feel awkward and flustered.

Standing up, Norah said, “I should go, I’ll come visit you in a few days!”

“You don’t have to keep coming here. Spend your time on your own stuff, Xavier responded in his usual easygoing manner.

Without saying another word, Norah grabbed her bag and left.

After leaving Xavier’s bedroom, Norah took a deep breath, feeling as if she had almost suffocated.

Downstairs, she said goodbye to Damian and the others, reminding Zachary, “Don’t let Mr. Flemmings eat spicy food in the next few days. His wound has scabbed over and spicy food could make it itch. I’m worried he won’t be able to resist scratching it.”

Zachary laughed and replied, “Got it, I’ll keep that in mind!”
