Chapter 897

Estelle found herself a cozy little B&B to stay in. The innkeeper noticed she was an outsider and assumed she was a tourist; she kept offering Estelle a tour guide.

Estelle politely declined. She went back to her room after slurping down some food at the inn.

The place was off the beaten track, so not many tourists came to Kulha. As a result, the rooms were vacant half the time. That explained the musty smell that hit her as soon as she walked in.

The innkeeper immediately opened the windows, Nobody’s stayed here for a while. It just needs airing out. See, you can see the beautiful Kulha Mountain right from the window. This is the best room we’ve got.”

Estelle looked in the direction the innkeeper pointed and saw an endless rubber plantation beneath the mountain range.

A heavy rain had just passed and a hazy mist lingered between the black mountains.

Estelle nodded slightly. “Could you bring me some hot water, please?”

“Sure thing!” The innkeeper was a woman with hair tied up and a warm, friendly face. She made up the bed for Estelle and then went to fetch the water.

Estelle put her bag on the wooden table under the window as her gaze fixed on the distant mountains. She couldn’t help but feel excited – was her long-time dream finally going to come true here?

Soon, the innkeeper returned with a thermos. She poured water for Estelle while asking. “Where are you from?”

JCity”

“Oh, what a fancy place!” the innkeeper exclaimed, “No wonder you’re so pretty, you’re a city girl! Our place can’t compare with the city. It gets a bit unsafe at night, so do your sightseeing during the day and stay indoors at night

“Thanks!”

“We’ve got plenty of nice spots around here!” the innkeeper continued enthusiastically. “You can go mountain hiking, or walk around our town. It’s an old town with a history of over 200 years. And..

Pointing to the rubber plantation outside the window, “If you want to visit the rubber plantation, I can arrange for someone to take you. Our neighbors work there. They can get you in at half the entrance fee.”

Estelle glanced sharply. “Who owns the plantation?”

The innkeeper shrugged, “No idea! The people managing it aren’t locals, but they treat our townsfolk well. They pay good wages and give out bonuses on holidays.

Estelle nodded, “Got it, thanks. I’ll let you know if I need anything”

“Don’t mention it!” the innkeeper said with a toothy grin, then left

Apart from Estelle, there was a young couple staying at the inn. When she first arrived, Estelle bumped into the guy. He asked if she was also here for sightseeing and suggested they toured together. Before Estelle could decline, the guy was dragged away by his jealous girlfriend.

The couple was staying next door to Estelle. The rooms were half-wooden, so soundproofing was not great. As Estelle lay down, she could hear the girl accusing the guy. “Did you fancy that girl we just

saw? Why did you invite her to hang out? Why don’t you just go have fun with her?”

“You’re overthinking! I just thought it’d be fun to have someone else to hang out with, to take pictures and chat with.”

“Don’t give me that! You think I don’t know what you’re up to? You’d love to hit on her, but sadly she’s not interested in you!”

“I swear, that’s not it!”
