Chapter 117: Unknown Labyrinth

Chapter 117: Unknown Labyrinth

'Pheww...That was dangerously close...' Shye inwardly thought as he plopped down on his butt after a nail-biting close brush with death.

Fortunately, Wendy managed to do what she had to before the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard could end his life.

"Hey, Crowley, are you alright?" Wendy asked as she attached her life staff to his body and cast [Heal Lv.3] to heal him back to full health.

"Yeah, I'm alright now, thanks." Shye replied as he looked at the dead body of the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard at the foot of the cliff.

'Haaah...If only we could harvest the carcass of that creature, we would probably make a lot of money out of it...' Shye inwardly sighed.

It was indeed a pity and a waste that it was next to impossible for them to descend and harvest the remains of the bipedaled lizard.

However, making the lizard fall off the cliff was the only way for them to survive so Shye consoled himself by thinking that at least they got to keep their little lives.

"Hey, Crowley, earlier, when I was circling that huge creature, I stumbled upon something that looked like an entrance...Do you want to see it?"

Wendy said, snapping Shye out of his thoughts.

Naturally, as an adventurer, Shye would be curious to at least take a look at the entrance Wendy was talking about.

Thus, after hearing Shye agree, Wendy led the way toward the entrance.

It wasn't very far though, after just a few minutes of walking, they arrived at the entrance of what seemed to be either a labyrinth or a tomb.

The entrance was well hidden behind lots of bushes and one might even fall down the stairs if one isn't careful.

In addition to this, no one really goes around these parts since the cliff is nothing but a dead end to most of the adventurers.

Shye and Wendy slowly descended the stairs of the labyrinth.

As they went further down though, their visions were impaired by the neverending darkness making Shye hesitate.

They already achieved their goal of killing an orc grunt and there was no need to put their lives in danger by venturing into the unknown right after a hard-fought battle.

"Wendy, let's go back for now...We can explore this labyrinth next time." Shye said with a serious expression.

He also wanted to explore the labyrinth but it was more logical for them to do it next time, maybe when they become fourth-year students, it would be easier for them to explore the labyrinth.

Thus, the two of them decided to head back.

*CLICK*

Unfortunately, the Goddess of Fate had a different plan in mind.

Immediately after the two of them turned around, Shye stepped on something, and then, with a loud clicking sound, a huge trap door suddenly opened below the two of them.

Armed with fast reflexes due to constant close combat battles, Shye managed to quickly react and immediately activated [Dash Lv.3] to avoid falling into the trapdoor.

However, Wendy didn't have such reflexes so she wasn't able to react. She doesn't have any skills to escape the situation anyway so her falling down was inevitable.

"Wendy!" Shye exclaimed in a worried tone as Wendy's silhouette gradually faded.

Gnashing his teeth in defiance, he unhesitantly jumped back to the abyss, targeted Wendy with a [Rush Stab Lv.2] to instantly close the gap then, put his greatswords back into the inventory to avoid hitting Wendy.

He then grabbed Wendy's shaking hands and threw her back to the surface with everything he had, saving her life as his silhouette disappeared in the endless darkness.

*THUD*

Wendy's body landed on the stairs of the labyrinth with a thud, and then, after realizing that she was safe and sound while Shye was nowhere to be found, she immediately stood up and stared at the abyss.

"Crowley!!!" Wendy tried to call out as she gazed upon the endless darkness.

Hearing no reply from Shye, she panicked.

'Oh no...What should I do?! I shouldn't have told him about the entrance...' Wendy muttered to herself, her hands, shaking, her heart, filled with guilt.

After a long while of confusion and self-blame, Wendy managed to reorganize her thoughts.

She realized that it was useless to stare at the abyss, thus, she immediately sprinted out of the entrance in hopes of asking for help.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the abyss, a young man was lying on the cold and hard floor of the labyrinth.

Miraculously, Shye was able to survive the fall by using some of his system points to upgrade the vitality attribute, however, his entire body was broken, the flames of his life dangerously close to being snuffed out.

If not for his quick decision-making, he would likely die even if he survived the fall.

Right before he hit the ground, he managed to remove the loose cork of a greater health potion before biting the neck of the potion's bottle.

However, he was very careful not to drink the potion until he hit the ground, else, everything would be for naught.

*GULP*

Upon realizing that he survived, Shye immediately gulped the bottle of greater health potion.

Although it was nowhere near enough to heal half of the internal and external wounds of his battered body, it allowed him to move his arms and hands, thus, allowing him to retrieve more potions from his inventory, gradually restoring his health to full over time.

Once he felt better, Shye slowly stood up and stretched his body, the pain of hitting the ground still fresh in his mind.

'How did I survive that...' Shye thought to himself as he shuddered at the thought of going through the fall again.

He looked around and to his surprise, some strange crystals were growing here and there illuminating the complex pathways of the labyrinth.

'Shit...Where the hell am I?' Shye muttered as he picked up a few pieces of crystals as a sample and stored them in the inventory of the system.

Although the current circumstances weren't the best, at least the crystals provided him with some vision, giving him a chance to navigate the unknown labyrinth and a chance to live.
