Chapter 139: Colzen Grand Convoy Arrives in Valenzia City
Chapter 139: Colzen Grand Convoy Arrives in Valenzia City
Another day quickly flew by.
The deans reminded everyone to finish their businesses in Windleton City since they would leave the city after a few more hours.
Fortunately, Hephaestus' Armaments finished Shye's relic upgrades on time around two hours before they left.
Thus, he still had a bit of time to enjoy admiring his new relics.
Shye equipped both of his greatswords, Nightbringer and Darkripper, before swinging them around to see how strong a mid-grade enchantment is.
*FWOOSH* *FWOOSH*
Shye tried swinging the Darkripper first to see the capabilities of a mid-grade sapphire enchantment.
Water wildly splashed around as an aqua-coating resembling a water chainsaw appeared on the blades of Darkripper, not only increasing the weight of his blows but also its cutting power.
He could only imagine flesh and blood flying around every time he managed to cleanly land a slash using this greatsword.
It seems that once a person enchants his/her weapon, then it becomes a killing weapon, not suited for friendly duels.
Fortunately, grievously wounding an opponent is allowed in the Adventurer Academy competition, allowing him to use this absurdly strong mid-grade relic in combat.
One can even kill an opponent in the competition, however, what's unacceptable is, deliberately killing a downed opponent when there was no need to.
For example, if a participant is incapacitated and it is obvious that the battle has been decided, it is forbidden to kill your opponent.
However, if an opponent dies due to losing a head-on clash, then the winner will not be punished.
Thus, his current greatswords were perfect for the job. Shye didn't like killing if he could help it anyway so he wasn't too concerned about the rules of the competition.
Satisfied with his mid-grade sapphire-enchanted Darkripper, Shye tried swinging his mid-grade opal-enchanted Nightbringer.
*BZZZZT* *BZZZZTT*
This time, sparks lingered in the afterimages of the Nightbringer as a purple-colored thunderbolt coiled around the body of the blade, adding a paralyzing effect to every attack.
Individually, Shye's greatswords were both a menace. However, their true strength would only be fully displayed when used together.
Shye deliberately chose a sapphire and opal enchantment due to one reason, Elemental Synergies.
A sapphire's element was water while opal's was thunder.
Naturally, water will amplify the effect of thunder making his greatswords even more of a menace.
A few seconds of numbness or paralyzation was lethal in a duel, thus making this elemental synergy very tricky to deal with.
The prerequisite though was, that one has the capability to obtain these two gemstones.
Although mid-grade sapphires were expensive, they were fairly easy to find in shops, unlike opals which were not only rare but also way more expensive.
Shye was pretty lucky to obtain a treasure chest full of mid-grade gemstones, allowing him to enchant his greatswords with this lethal combination.
Satisfied with both of his greatswords, Shye stored the Nightbringer in the sword strap attached to his back while he kept the Darkripper in the system's inventory.
He then brought out the two pieces of low-grade relics that he got for free from Arnold and checked them out.
The two pieces of equipment were gauntlets and greaves, both enchanted with lesser enchantment jades giving him a slight boost in agility and dexterity.
Now armed with four relics, Shye returned to the inn in a good mood.
"Big brother! Over here!!" Maia said with a loud voice, trying to get her big brother's attention who was returning to the inn.
It seemed that he lost track of time while testing his new relics and didn't notice that everyone had already boarded their carriages.
'Crap! I'm late!'
Shye doubled his pace as he quickly boarded the front carriage with an apologetic look on his face.
Fortunately, the deans seemed to be in a good mood so he wasn't reprimanded.
He breathed a sigh of relief, sat down on his designated seat, and stared out the window as the grand convoy of Colzen Academy continued their imposing march towards Valenzia City, the city of dreams.
***
A month and a half quickly passed as the familiar majestic city walls of Valenzia City stood tall in front of a grand convoy bearing the banners of Colzen Academy.
Upon arrival, it was inevitable that their awe-inspiring convoy would garner people's attention. Only, most of the people had nothing but mocking looks on their faces as they stared at the Colzen convoy and whispered among themselves.
"Pfft…Colzen Academy? Who the hell are they trying to impress?"
"Hahaha…Brother, look, I remembered that this academy went out in a blaze of glory last year, in the first round that is!"
"Hahahaha acting like top-tiered academies isn't gonna make you one! What the hell is this Colzen Academy doing?!"
Fortunately, the deans already advised all of the students and instructors to ignore everyone's mocking words ahead of time so although the inexperienced first-year and second-year students were gnashing their teeth in anger, they managed to hold themselves back from picking fights.
Shye and the other representatives coldly smiled at the onlookers, flames of passion burning in their hearts as they daydreamed of shutting these haters up.
Although the actual knockout stage would begin a few days later, as an academy that exited in the first round of last year's competition, they had to fight earlier than the others to earn a spot in the knockout stage.
Quite humiliating for an academy with a top 64 finish on their resume but they had no choice, Havan's generation was just too pathetic that Shye's generation had to clean up after their mess.
Still, Shye was quite happy with this arrangement since more matches were equivalent to more points. As usual, upon entering the city, the deans completed the required paperwork with frowns on their faces.
Not only was the work tedious, but the inn assigned to them this year was too shabby. Reminding them of their horrible finish last year.
However, the deans and the companion students consoled themselves by thinking that these arrangements would only last for a few days.
Once their representatives blast their way through the competition, their accommodations would improve accordingly.
Thus, they have to make do with the current arrangements for now.
