Chapter 167: The Final Eight

Chapter 167: The Final Eight

Who wouldn't?

After all, right above them was a gaping maw of a humongous flying creature resembling a dragon.

The creature had tangerine-colored tough scales, two vast wings almost covering the entire Valenzia Square, and spikes on the sides of its face, neck, and spine.

In contrast to a dragon with four functioning limbs, the creature only had two hind legs.

Its main weapon seemed to be its gigantic maw, capable of devouring two or three houses in one bite, looking absolutely terrifying.

As a mere student adventurer, how could Shye not tremble in front of such a majestic creature of enormous size?

He hadn't even seen one half the size of this creature let alone something this big.

As the chains went lower and lower, the fear gnawing at the people's hearts gradually diminished upon realizing that the creature was already dead.

Shye took a few deep breaths before managing to tame his chaotic heart, allowing him to closely look at the creature.

'If I want to reach the top, I eventually have to deal with creatures like this one…' He mused.

The fear in his eyes–gone without a trace as he bravely faced what seemed like the innate aura of the creature head-on.

Sort of like a [Talent] but exclusive to the creature's species.

"I apologize for startling everyone, however, as you can see, this (A) ranked ember wyvern is completely dead and I assure everyone that your lives aren't in any sort of peril."

"That said, this ember wyvern will be our main testing material for the damage test. As you all can see, the scales of this creature are absurdly tough, and for a blacksmith to remain in the competition, their steel-tier masterpieces had to at least break through the scales and deal some sort of damage to the creature–with the help of Sir Vyse of course."

"Now, Sir Vyse, if you would…"

With timing on his side, the commentator skillfully stepped in, snapping Shye and the others out of their stupor and bringing their focus back to the competition.

Loud footsteps once again reverberated in Valenzia Square as Vyse walked around and grabbed the first weapon, this time, from another blacksmith named Gozen.

Grabbing the handle of Gozen's tachi with one hand, Vyse walked in front of the massive creature and diagonally slashed, violently splitting the air as the Tachi ferociously advanced towards the wyvern's carcass.

*CLANG*

An ear-splitting ringing noise echoed in the entire square as the tachi violently clashed with the wyvern's tough tangerine scales, unfortunately, although the scale was dented, the tachi didn't slash through.

Vyse gave it four more tries but the results were the same.

Seeing the outcome, Shye was shocked.

He never would've imagined that such fierce-looking killing weapons with high-grade enchantment gemstones couldn't even go through the wyvern's armor.

Realizing something, he looked at Gozen, feeling slightly heartbroken for the man.

Shye saw how much effort these blacksmiths invested in their weapons so he felt sad for Gozen.

Subsequently, he was dumbfounded after realizing that there wasn't a single trace of sadness in Gozen's expression.

Instead, he had a pondering look, trying to think of the things he could've done to improve the quality of his work before shrugging his shoulders with a nonchalant expression as if the elimination had nothing to do with him.

Seeing the prominent smith's reaction, Shye was fascinated.

The gears of his brain shifted and turned upon learning something new from one of the best blacksmiths in the region.

It seemed that to reach the top, one had to have a constant learning and improvement mindset.

Wallowing in self-pity or sadness just seemed like a waste of time for these guys.

Truly standing at the epitome of their craft.

*CLANG*

A startling noise pulled Shye back from his daydreams as Vyse started hacking and slashing at the scales of the wyvern once again, but this time, with the works of other blacksmiths.

One by one, Vyse finished testing all of the blacksmith's weapons.

Astoundingly, eight blacksmiths passed the damage test.

Things were looking kind of bleak after the first three blacksmiths failed and Shye started to think that maybe even Doran's battle axes wouldn't make it.

The damned wyvern's scales were just too hard.

If things progressed towards that direction then the entire event would go horribly wrong.

Fortunately, it seems that he was too naive as 8 blacksmiths passed including Meido and Doran.

As a Meido fanboy, Shye was naturally happy that his favorite blacksmith passed the test.

He couldn't forget the moment when Meido's poison dagger pierced through the scale like a hot knife through butter, sending reddish-blue blood spurting out of the stab wound.

Although it was a bittersweet feeling that there were now more Meido fanboys and fangirls, Shye was happy.

After all, his favorite blacksmith would be able to make a lot more equipment in the future if her smithing business did well.

"Fierce! The weapons of these 8 blacksmiths are just too fierce!! Who would've thought that the scales of an (A) rank monstrosity could be pierced by mere mortal steel-tier weapons?! Absolutely mindblowing!"

Once again, the masterful commentator stepped in at just the right time, taking the reins of the proceedings and skillfully driving the event towards its climax.

"Although it was regrettable that eight blacksmiths fell short, not a single one of their weapons failed to leave a legacy and this fact is proven by the dented scales of this wyvern."

"Still, with or without them, the competition has to go on."

"We shall now head to the last part of the competition where a king will be crowned. Will the renowned Doran keep his crown?! Or will another blacksmith ascend as the new king?! Tune in folks as things are about to get wild!"

"The last test is the simplest. The three judges will appraise the weapons created by the blacksmiths and name out a price in silver coins."

"We shall then compute the averages of the three prices which would then be the final score of the blacksmith."

"The higher the price of the weapon, the higher the ranking."
